So did Mick Jagger. For real! He'd just arranged for srv & dt to open for the Stones - at about a dozen venues I think it was.

There's nothing like SRV live. He was one of the best live performers. I agree with you about his vocals. I always liked his singing 🔥

Got to see him on the first night of his two last shows - Alpine Valley. The most sublime music performance I've ever had witnessing live music in my lifetime. For real.

Myabsolute favorite SRV song. The way it flows melodically through the bell like chord licks with one of the grooviest basslines ever is just magical and a solo that I have memorized note for note, pick for pick. And then that THUMB PULL at 07:15 - PHENOMENAL

There's only a couple of live performances I have ever seen where my brain cannot register that what I am seeing and hearing is real, and this is #1. When emotion, soul and technical perfection all meet at the same moment.

The man the legend. He was a new generation of bluesmen, that was to lead us to further blues and rock and roll....
It was never the same after 1969 and his untimely death...
It was too much to really believe rock would live on, and so it didn't...😢

I love, and miss him so much.
A bit of advice…Anytime you see Live from Austin City Limits - push Play! SRV Always Live!
And, to understand, this was a Rock-Radio play.
Tight Rope is another and, off the same album.

Your advice is so true! SRV at his absolute pinnacle. The 1989 Austin City Limits show is Stevie and the band at their Clean/Sober and balls to the wall greatest ❤❤

Big shout out to Bass: Tommy Shannon, Keyboards: Reese Wynans, Drums: Chris Layton. Double Trouble who backed SRV so well. As for Stevie, there aren't enough words. RIP.

Reese Wynans was added to Double Trouble after the band had been a well-established power trio. Incredible keyboardist who said it was fun & challenging to have to play "gnarly" chords and contort his hands, since Stevie tuned his guitar 1/2 step down as Jimmi Hendrix had done. Yes Stevie's dad was a heavy drinker & had an explosive temper, and the family relocated every few months as his job ( asbestos worker) kept him moving to different areas. The boys had a tough time growing up & started drinking very young-- before middle school. The love of music & teaching themselves guitar is what helped them to cope, to fit in, to leave home and chase their dreams. Stevie was drinking heavily and had a serious coke addiction that literally almost killed him. He was about 30 when he found himself unravelling emotionally and vomiting blood. The doctor told him he had damaged his stomach so badly from dissolving coke in whiskey and drinking it, that he was bleeding internally and would be dead in a month unless he quit. He checked into rehab, seriously committed to getting & staying sober, and turned his life around completely. He worked the 12-step program religiously, attending AA meetings wherever his tours went, and went out of his way to support and encourage anyone with addiction to reach out for help. He wrote "Riviera Paradise" as an instrumental expression of love for others dealing with addiction; it's an amazing, beautiful glimpse into Stevie's heart and the Austin live performance is stunning. Even though he's been gone almost 33 years, when you see that performance, the connection he makes is as though he was speaking to you in the moment. An amazing man & amazing talent.

It's always amazing to me how much I love SRV's vocals. He is stunning. I lived/loved in Austin for almost 20 years. He was already gone 😢 one of my 1st Austin adventures was to place a guitar pick on his statue. His presence is seeped into the Austin scene, well it was for me. Wish we could jam with Stevie. 🔥🎸☮️💜🤘

The Last Studio Album, with Double Trouble, was named IN STEP
.a tribute to the twelve step programs , for recovery.
The studio Album was SRV, healthy, Sober and on fire. Crossfire, Tightrope, Riveria Paradise, are perfection. I love the live versions but remember, those songs live were new to band, not like the past decade of hits, so while the live versions of IN Step songs,, they were tweaking them every night.
To me the Studio Album songs, of In Step, capture the full force of the band..sadly, it was two years later Stevie boarded the Helicopter at Pine Valley.

His only #1 hit, written by Double Trouble and Bill Carter, a guitar player from Fort Worth and his wife on lyrics. They practiced together while Stevie was doing his AA thing with Doyle Bramhall. The night after Stevie died some of his friends, not knowing what to do, set up a memorial at Liberty Lunch in Austin, and I remember Bill Carter and Doyle Bramhall played Bill Carter’s “Willie the Wimp and His Cadillac Coffin”, that Jimmie and Stevie both used to play, and it broke the sad mood. Everyone started smiling, and it felt like Stevie was there.

This is from his last album (not counting the album he did with his broth3er Jimmie) so he had less than a year left before he died and he was just peaking. In Step is my favorite album, he wrote or co--wrote most of the songs with only 3 covers (Leave My Girl Alone is a classic) and ends his last SRV and DT album with the beautiful jazz instrumental Riviera Paradise that he also wrote. The sky was still the limit - damn I wish he didn't take that chopper. He survived his heroin addiction, got clean, sober and happier than ever and then he died like this. So many musical artists over the years have died in small plane or chopper accidents - Glen Miller, Buddy Holly, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Otis Redding, Jim Croce, John Denver, half of Lynard Skynyrd and SRV.

For guitar builders, No.1 is one of the most copied guitars. The 1959 pickups give a clean versatility that made it his favorite. My son and I built one that is similar in appearance but with the spec of it and it is amazing. We also built a copy of charley and couldn’t be happier.

In the 1980s on CNN, there was a news and discussion program named “Crossfire”. They used the opening introduction to the song as the theme song for the program.
CNN had a left-wing commentator and a right-wing commentator on the program, and every weekday, they brought in a newsmaker/politician, and commentators would get into arguments over various issues of the day, and the newsmaker/politician would cut in, to try to set the record straight. It made for compelling television viewing in the latter part of the 20th Century.

On your point of that feeling of a new start with a clean slate for a band - Radiohead. Stevie and Pink Floyd are my other 2 top 3 favorites - so you know if at least this one man can find a thru-line for love of music, that is my trifecta, while the sound of SRV is blues guitar, Pink Floyd and Radiohead are a better comparison. But yeah, would love to see it - you're one of the best and it would be a great journey. "Weird Fishes: Live from the Basement" great spot to start (now that you did the "Creep" intro single, there are 9 albums of incredible music to delve into with sounds from straight rock to - the sky is the limit. Love seeing Stevie back, and yes that IS the coolest guitar to ever exist on this planet.
