Same thing is happening to my iPhone 8 after a recent software update (within last month or two). Sometimes heats up to a very high temp during normal use which wasn't happening before, in fact it barely got warm or hot at all until recently.

I was at the Apple Genius Bar a few days ago to get my iPad fixed. While I waited, I played around with the 15 models and I noticed that one in particular was running SUPER hot. Like almost too hot to hold for a long period of time. But all the others were fine.

From what I have been watching in regards to durability on the iPhone Pro Max 15 is that in one of the tare down videos there is a metal plate was was part of the back panel glass design and was integrated into the back in previous iPhones but in the new 15 that metal plate is no longer attached to the back panel but is now part of the internal structure of the phone. This is why the back panel is cheaper to replace but the integrity of the back panel is not as rigid without that metal plate.

    • @rrrandommman
      @rrrandommman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Good spot, though I think just making the rear panel out of metal would solve a lot of issues, could even help thermals if they added an interface.

I got the Pro Max, My average screen active time averages 11hrs38mins a day with 2hrs6mins and I left with around 20% when I go to bed. It’s way better than my 11 pro max was after 4 years. So I’ve been more than happy with it so far. No heat issues with mine whatsoever after the initial setup and downloads while using the phone and having it plugged in. Other than that it’s been cooler than the old one too.

I got the iPhone 15 pro yesterday at 2pm, I am a heavy user and I have been heavily using it since I got it leading up to this comment today.
Luckily as soon as I unboxed it iOS 17.0.3 with the “overheating” fix was already out and obviously I installed it immediately, from my testing it has not over heated once and I’ve been running typical social media apps and TH-cam.
I charged it this morning to 93%, unplugged it at 8:13am it hasn’t seen a charger since and it’s sitting at 49% battery at 4:52pm.
My testing is very limited as it’s only been a day lol but I will keep an eye on it, luckily so far so good without overheating issues.

I had an overheating issue with my iPhone 12 Pro Max once I upgraded to iOS 17.0. It was in my pocket, when I started feeling some heat by my knee. I pulled it out, no app was running on it, but it was hot. And the only way for me to sop it from heating was to restart the iPhone. So, I think this is a software issue they have to fix ASAP, hopefully.

Nah, probably instagram or another Meta app doing a background refresh (app doesn’t need to be open). A lot of peoples heating issues disappeared when they turned off background refresh for those apps. That’s also why the heating was random as it would be caused by when the app decided to do that background refresh. The new Apple OS update & instagram update are supposed to fix the issue.

I always get a case, Mous makes some great cases and also get a screen protector. My iPhone 12 Pro had the Sapphire screen protector, a bit expensive, but does a great job. I normally don’t drop my phone and it’s in a leather holster when not in use. I did drop the 12 PRO face down on the tile floor in the kitchen. A few minor cracks on the outside edges that looked disturbing but not extremely bad. When I brought the 12 Pro into AT&T for the upgrade, they pulled off the Saspphire screen and the actual iPhone looked like new, as did the rest of the phone.

I believe it was way back with the iPhone 3 (maybe earlier) that some copies had an issue with suddenly discharging the battery, causing the phones to literally get dangerously hot. Not surprisingly, Apple was all over that issue, asking people to stop using the affected phones and rapidly getting replacements out to customers. I did have one of those phones and was impressed with how Apple handled the matter.

Honestly my iPhone 13 has gotten warm out of the blue in the past but since it didn't have a higher speed processor or have a titanium case that reduces heat dissipation it largely goes unnoticed. If I ever feel it getting warm I just exit all apps and do a restart, usually that returns the iPhone 13 to normal.

Accroding to testings from Geekerwan, 3nm process is not as good as expected. A17 Pro is showing similar efficncy as A15 and A16, yet apple somehow decided to boost it's CPU core's frequency to 3.78GHz, which is stupitly high considering iPhone's poor thermal design. Knowing apple, they will probably make modification to CPU and GPU scheduling, limit boost frequency and usage of power cores to solve this issue. However, iPhone designers should really starting to pay more attention to the thermal designs in thier product, especially if they want gaming to be a key feature of an iPhone.

Apple just dropped the update, yesterday(17.0.3) that will fix the heat. It was also a couple of apps (Instagram being one) that was causing the issue as well, and Apple worked with their developers to fix this. Instagram just had an update yesterday as well. It’s definitely not hardware, or the titanium, because the titanium is just the side rails and the majority of the phone is aluminum. The A18 Pro needs to focus more on less power consumption, rather than power.

Their new chip is around Snapdragon 8 version 1 in power, but they added a really wild set of AI stuff the phone can do to photos, answering calls for you, a temperature sensor (gimmick, but could be useful) among other things. I expect other manufacturers to follow, with the AI next time around. Look at the Pixel 8 reviews. It's interesting. And 7 YEARS of updates.

I run an 11 and haven’t had any overheating issues, BUT as soon as I have the option I stop updating the OS, (so I’m on the final iteration of 16) which means my phone is now terminal. What Apple are going to do is choke their (frankly ridiculous) processors performance in the new phones to avoid the issue, which does beg the question as to why the hell would anybody buy these phones? Especially the Pro? Here’s an idea, beings as Apple are so keen to save the world and green wash and everything, how about they stop making pointless updates to iOS to improve the life of their products, instead of making sure each product is obsolete within a couple of years? THAT would be good for the environment. Until a phone can do something revolutionary like massaging my balls I really don’t see why these companies continue to claim that a product that is basically the SAME for going on three years needs to be iterated constantly like this, at huge cost to both consumers and the environment.

Bro, since the 15 came out my 14 pro overheats when listening to music and the battery drops like crazy. It's not always, but when I cook I put on music on a bluetooth speaker and it's happened like 2 or 3 times in the past 2 weeks.
Edit: A more accurate statement would be that it overheats ever since I upgraded to iOS 17)

The reason why iPhone 15 pro back glass break so easily it’s because the 15 pro doesn’t have metal plate attached to the back glass instead it’s on the back of the phone itself unlike the 14, 14 series have metal plate attached to the glass.

Obviously a few years different in models but running a 14 Plus and an S21 Ultra. S21 has gotten warm during charge or extended camera use but never too hot to hold or such, even when charging. I have gotten it to overheat with 3D scans using the camera for like an hour straight. The 14 Plus, while haven't loaded to the same extent thus far, gets uncomfortably hot even just charging. I'm sure if I put it through a long camera test scan I could overheat it. Just really strange behavior.

I don’t have Instagram or any social apps in my phone, or gaming apps, and I do get heating randomly. Changing wireless is kind of scary cause the phone heats like hell… TH-cam is kind of random. Sometimes I am watching videos and it heats like hell to the point I stop… I noticed when in horizontal mode it’s worst. And the battery drains fast when it’s heating… So far I only have regrets about upgrading from the 14 pro max to the 15 pro max. Not even the camera is a plus for me. Phone looks fragile somehow and worst.
