      They won’t do it because the EU won’t allow the phones to be sold in 2025. Apple, like Samsung and others sell phones for more than one year. They’re not going to make a lightning phone this year that they can’t sell next year. That’s the main reason. And they won’t have different MSRPs for the EU and the few countries such as I believe Brazil, that will require USB C and lightning everywhere else

    “Aerospace grade” titanium is traditionally specific grade of titanium. Grade 4 to be specific in the Apple Watch ultra. Its an unalloyed CP titanium. Where Grade 5 titanium is a blend of titanium, aluminum, and vanadium. You usually see grade 2 or grade 5 in normal mechanical watches. Grade 2 tends to be darker and rougher in finish. Does it matter for a phone? Remember a few years ago first Apple, then Samsung and other phones were found to be bendable? Well, Apple went to 7075 aerospace aluminum and the bending stopped, because it’s twice as strong as more often used alloys. I assume that other companies did as well. Given that Tim Cook is the previous COO and primary handled supply chain, my bet that given the fact that if you can buy a crap ton of anything it becomes cheaper per unit, it would probably be USB-C for both. But the pro gets thunder. Because what happens after lighting? Thunder. That's it. That's the branding. (Also Thunderbolt is an Intel trademark).

    • @bosstowndynamics5488
      @bosstowndynamics5488 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thunderbolt being trademarked isn't a barrier to using it, Apple codeveloped the standard and uses the official trademark on their ARM Macs. The biggest barrier is that they would need to design a PCIe interface and Thunderbolt controller into the much smaller A series phone processors, and there wouldn't be any real benefit (the jump from 480Mbps USB2 to 20Gbit USB speeds is already plenty of bandwidth for a phone).

    I’d bet Lightning on standard, USB-C on the Pro. Still think Apple want to drop the port from the standard and go with MagSafe only for charging, so it’d be risky to put USB-C on the standard then take it away in a generation or two. If you just put it in the Pro, you get a feel for how much people want it and use it, which helps decide kill/no-kill for the port on the standard

    Early on when the changes from generation to generation were significant, I would upgrade every two years. It's just not worth it any longer. Phone technology has pretty much hit its peak. There aren't that many revolutionary changes any longer. Now I treat my iPhone upgrades as I do my computer upgrades. I upgrade whenever it won't run the latest version of the software. In fact, on my computers I go an extra two years while the OS is still getting security updates. I'm on the iPhone 8 now, and rumors are that it won't run iOS 17. Thusly, I'll most probably be upgrading to the iPhone 15. I'm kind of excited about the move to USB-C as a standard port; however, I do think the lightning port is a better design. It would have been cool if lightning became industry standard; however, it seems like there are throughput limitations.

Android had a do-not-disturb mode that disables all sound coming from the phone (but allows sound in headphones) for either a set amount of time or until the alarm for ages. It's not a difficult concept. And while hey're at it, the alarms can also be completely trashed and implemented from scratch. 😀

    fun talk, but I think you guys underplay quite a bit how important the change to titanium for the pro models could be for the average iphone user. Weight is huuuuge, even 5-10grams (hopefully more) makes a much bigger difference in most users every day handling of the phone than most screen features and everything else. As someone who has had the latest greatest for 10+ years, the iphone 13 and 14 pro's got so heavy, it just wasn't fun to use anymore. Ended up getting the standard 14 (wife got my 14 pro for the better photos), and although I very much would like the 120hz screen and def the camera im missing, and you do notice it instantly as soon as you pickup the pro, but not being able to text and do other things reliably with one hand, because its so heavy just defeated the purpose for me. So I'm really hoping the titanium on the new Pro is true and that the weight drops again.

    Honestly thinner bezels was MUCH needed. iPhones looked old compared to Android.

      @@butteroverwatch The usb port is far more important than the things you mentioned.
      Repairing or even manufacturing will be pain for apple
      and impossible for third party repair services.

    Here's the bigger question. How will apple inhibit the charging speeds with the various models of the iPhone 15 if they DO go with usb c all the way through? remaining at 15w at the bottom of the lineup, and 25 or more watts with the Pro Max?

      Apparently the EU blocked or will block Apple from being able to do this.

    A term like "aerospace grade titanium" would mean it has to meet and be certified compliant to a particular specification. Not that any random titanium could be used for an aerospace application that specifies titanium to a particular specification.
    So even if your chunk of titanium meets the aerospace spec; absent the certification it is not useable in the application that calls for titanium to the spec.

    I don’t think they will be keep the lightning port on their lesser models. I think they might make their standard 15 wireless charging only

    I think we are forgetting the main reason (probably) why Apple will add usb C to their phone. It is because EU made it mandatory, so a time will come where they simply wont be able to put lightning port to their new devices.
