  • Being patient to maintain good positions off the floor in the sumo deadlift is critical to success at lockout.

I prefer the Yury Belkin lock out, the knees locking slightly before the hips so your hands dont hit your quads on the way up. Assuming your main weak point is off the floor and you wont get pulled forward at lock out

Right - you guys need to discuss your video posting schedules. You, Alan Thrall, Supertraining and Brian Alsruhe all released deadlift tip videos within five hours of one another.

When I pull sumo, breaking off the floor is fairly easy, but if I'm going to fail, it happens a few inches off the ground. Does this indicate a relative posterior chain weakness compared to quads?

Usually that happens if you sacrifice your back positioning by rounding. Also it's a bit more likely to happen on a pull with a less stiff bar because it's easier off the floor. So for most people, if you maintain your position off the floor, the sticking point is the floor. If you have a video of you failing a sumo pull, look at whether or not you're sacrificing position of the floor to get the bar moving - that's another part of patience during the pull. If you round, it'll come up, but you're likely to get stuck by your knees and completely stall at lockout, since you're trying to pull a rounded back through.
That - or maybe your sticking point is just different (which could be because of specific weaknesses, that would be hard to tell without video of your lift, though).
