    thanks for this. as a music pro doing tutorials, i love Resolve's audio power, but haven't got a head of steam up to switch from iMovie. you've been an enormous help to me as i learned basic editing, and I'm sure your Resolve tutorials would be incredibly useful to me and all your fans.

    Michael, seems like you made this video just for me! You've taught me so much about iMovie over the past months. But, I just switched to Davinci Resolve and wondering if you will be giving us the same quality tutorials for DaVinci that you gave for iMovie. Sure hope so!!!

      I agree! This video is actually the reason I want to switch over to DaVinci Resolve now, especially after feeling like I've reached the limits on what I can do in iMovie. Thanks Michael, for helping us. I look to seeing more tutorials from you, hopefully in Davinci!

      Resolve is pro-level, a lot of features most TH-cam creators really don't need. But, you won't be wanting for more, in terms of post-production capability. Bit of a steep learning curve and the free version lacks popular effects, automatic video transcription, and some speed optimizations the paid, Studio version has.

    Hi Michael, I’m a newbie in video editing and a mature age adopter too.. it’s a hobby for me but I wanted to up skill myself in something creative during COVID! I so enjoy many of your IM videos as your clear and concise instructions were so great and kinda easy to follow..
    However after seeing some other tutorials which I watched made me choose DR!
    But I would like for you to create tutorials for this product.. for me you are a great teacher and easy to listen to with that special TV like presenter voice 🙌🙏🏻

    If you have a lot of gaps in your timeline then you can use the remove gaps option in Resolve

      Curious, does that feature also remove gaps that you intentionally put into the timeline?

    • @rano12321
      @rano12321 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MacVideoMagic You can remove all gaps or remove gaps of selected clips. But if you use ripple edits while editing, then you wouldn't need to use that feature often.

    Much as Michael has made a very comprehensive and thoughtful video, as always, what puts it head and shoulders above any other technology explained video, is his recognition, that there is a problem with many apps, in that some activities remain hidden. Let’s be seeing and hearing more from Michael on other applications that present a challenge to the lone technology user. As a team of two having a TH-cam Channel, with very little technology help from the community around us, we have been loyal to iMovie for some thirteen years.

    Informative as always! I often work in Premier, but when I edit long form TH-cam videos, I ALWAYS use iMovie… it’s just the fastest workflow I’ve found! I can edit so quickly in it as my fingers just now automatically use the keyboard shortcuts to trim, paste attributes, etc… how have you found DiVinci in this regard? With practice, do you think a person can get as fast as in iMovie?

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't know, I don't have enough hours on Resolve. I'm sure learning keyboard shortcuts would speed things up. But I don't think DR is built for speed. I think it's built for depth, very comprehensive. I still default to iMovie unless I need an usual effect, or something.

    Thank you sir, I have been using premier pro for a while now. The last time I tried Devinci was about two years ago and it did not seem user friendly the ui seemed very clutterd in my opinion. Im going to give it another try because I would like to get away from the adobe subscription .

    I’m dabbling with DR as the color management makes my GoPro videos look THAT much better. Perhaps a way to combine DR power features with simplicity of iMovie editing? I never need more than 2 layers of video, then again I guess I’ve never tried a more complex tool to understand how that might benefit me. I’d love to see some DR tutorials from you as all your iMovie ones have been incredibly helpful.

    Hey Michael. Is it possible to exchange the media files from iMovie to DaVinci Resolve?

  • @stewartl5109
    @stewartl5109 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m a newbie to DR. I invested in a beefy M2 Max I never use proxies in DR. It’s a setting feature. But having said this wow it’s a steep learning curve. I want to try my best and stick with it though. I will invest in a one time license soon as I HATE subscription fee software😊 I feel all the different features of DR at the bottom is in my opinion only user friendly without going from one app to another like AP or others alike 🤔

  • @MisplacedMotoVlogger
    @MisplacedMotoVlogger 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I tried it, but didn't really like all the differences from iMovie. It also bogged down my computer, unless I used proxies. I dropped it and tried the 90 day trial of Final Cut Pro, then decided to pay for it. Haven't looked back since.

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Makes sense. DaVinci Resolve Free lacks optimizations the Studio version has. I've been an FCP user since the 90s. Love how it's optimized for the Mac, but wish it would keep up a bit better with the competition.

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The magnetic timeline is a different editing paradigm. Once you get used to it, it's hard to go back. I've been a FCP user since the 90s. Love how it's optimized for the Mac. Just wish FCP would keep up a little better with its competitors.

    • @MisplacedMotoVlogger
      @MisplacedMotoVlogger 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On the plus side, there are a lot of plug-ins available for FCPX that seem to help keep up. For the videos I make it works great, and I probably haven’t scratched the surface of its capabilities.

    It might require a minor rebrand at your end to start talking about DaVinci Resolve, but I’d pay money to hear you - at whatever level of detail or skill level you deem appropriate.
    Meanwhile, I was about to throw you a couple of euros as “Super Thanks” for your previous videos that I’ve found helpful. But I read that not only TH-cam but Apple somehow take a cut of that? If so, is there a better way to donate? Cheers!
