Resolve Studio is awesome but don't worry if you can't afford it. Just keep creating! Free version rocks too 🔥 Also, I have a new idea for a table top commercial. Gonna share the whole process on my channel: pre-production, filming and editing. 🔥💥 Hope some of you will get inspired! 💯🙏🏻
Yes, people should upgrade :) I have another point of view. If someone has the financial ability to get the Studio version, they should get it if they really enjoy using Davinci Resolve. It's important to support the rare companies that are not renting their software, selling it a low price for a world class piece of software, and with free updates.
Exact reason why I am going to upgrade. I don't really need the Studio version, but the fact they haven't become that greedy yet is why I am going to upgrade. Just got the free version last week, but this week coming I am switching.
That is why I have the Studio version. The other reason is it is highly unlikely the studio version will ever cost less. At some point, the price will go up. Also, the next version (at the moment V19 is in Beta) might have a killer feature only in the Studio version.
@@JAmediaUK well, your argument of "unlikely the studio version will ever cost less" is historically inconsistent :P The studio version already went the path: $100,000 -> $1,000 -> $300. From the dynamics observed so far, the extrapolation sends us into a lower price expectation in some future :P But who knows :P
TIME IS MONEY. I really like your videos. Mostly free version of Davinci Resolve can do everything. My main factor for chose Studio version was really slow rendering (20 minutes full HD video took up to hour) but now same video I can render within few minutes. Studio version also has a lot cool and useful features. Good luck to all content creators! Good luck to Joris Hermans! 👍🙏🤞
I have been creating content for 2 years now on TH-cam and recently switched to the Studio version of Davinci Resolve. Haven't had any crashing problems unlike premiere pro! My only problem is audience retention (usually only 61% viewed around the 0:30sec mark), but I am working on it! Great video by the way!
Great video! In the end, it is the creativity of the artist that makes the final product, not the gear or software. That being said, I bought the studio for 10bit, rendering, and not having to worry if the feature I want is available or not. It was fun to see your creative process in those early videos!
This. If you work with HDR and don't want to output a gigantic DNxHR HQX file, then you need Studio for 10-bit H.264, H.265, and AV1 output. Plus the Export is about 20X faster with GPU accelerated rendering if you have a 40 series RTX card. But if you don't need that (and most people don't) the free version is more than enough. Not to mention you can get CapCut for free to do things only in the Studio version, or to easily create effects if you don't want to learn Fusion. But the Studio version is totally worth it for anyone editing on a regular basis.
Maybe you could use the relight feature for the TicTac commercial to create some depth. Doesn't replace better lighting during the filming, but can help with the depth you wanted.
Something to consider: At some point, all software increase in price throughout its history. Maybe Blackmagic will always keep DR Studio at $295 USD. Maybe it will go up. But, if you buy it now, you will get every upgrade until the end of time. Chances are, over time, more features for the Studio-only version will be added. So, why not get it now? You will always have all the tools you want for a one time payment.
Blackmagic states on their web site that upgrades are free for the foreseeable future, but that they reserve the right to change that policy in the future.
I want to take a momento to say THANK YOU for this one! Today at breakfast I was thinking/struggling deciding if the studio version was stopping me to keep creating or if the free version was enough and your video came to clarify and boost the creativity. Right now I can't afford the purchase, hopefully I will in the future. Thanks again for sharing!
Whoah, just got some extra cash for my birthday so I spent it all on the Speed Editor *with a license*, and oh … my … what a wonderful thing the speed editor is. Forcing myself to «submit» to the workflow of the cut page, having that wheel to quickly zoom around the timeline is such a timesaver, and the dedicated buttons … it’s just awesome :) The added speedup of rendering and the text editing feature as well is also such amazing timesavers - three thumbs up for the one time license version :)
On the other hand, if you love video editing and you will continue to have it as one of your biggest interest I think you should invest in the Studio version
There's a successful graphic artist talking about art, and they say: "Never snap to guides. We want your mind, we don't want your software.". "There's so much slick, fine, professional, forgettable graphic design out there. There's even more reason we need a few rebels to make something stand out". It's easy to get lost in the tech. Sometimes the beauty of art lies in the aesthetic Japanese refer to as wabi-sabi: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.
Hey Joris! to be honest Davinci auto silence removal feature in the studio, kind of suuks! it is not accurate as i was expecting, there is no use of it, i still have to do my trimming manually. Before shifting to studio, I thought it is going to save my 100 of hours, but nowhere near.
Ta. Thank you for the comments. I feel better now. Finally got a computer that will run Davinci Resolve. Arrives in 3 days. Birthday today. 76 years of age. New challenge. Woohoo!
Although the free version of resolve is awesome, you really need a spect out computer to run it properly. And there is really no use spending money on a computer to run resolve in the free vesrion when it is SO much faster an effective in the studio version. My opinion...if you are going to spend money on a computer to run the free version properly, it's well worthwhile forking out the rest for the studio version...
So I'm just gonna stop real quick and say that if you use a camera that can only shoot in 10 bit color you have to upgrade, it's not an option. The videos will not work in da Vinci. Resolve free because da Vinci resolve free edition does not provide 10 bit color however, studio does.
I can safely say the studio features have saved me hundreds of hours, so if you do this as a job then I find it is quite worth it that said, I did some great videos within the free version. My thoughts are that the free version is there to allow people who cannot afford adobe to jump into resolve and then get studio when business is good
5:00 But I can't say it's slow, it's lightning fast, but my pc has an RTX 3090. Rendering speed is always at max speed. What exactly do you mean by more hardware acceleration?
Your thumbnail here is kinda click-baity eh? I agree with you that paying for software is not necessary to produce good results, but the paid version of Resolve is 100% worth the money they are charging for it. The features enabled through that upgrade are massive, and things like the depth map, fusion effects and other neural features are incredibly incredibly effective and so so cheap in comparison to other companies. Compare what you get in studio to what you pay for in Premiere + After Effects for even 1 month's subscription. It's kind of crazy to say it's not worth it.
Ive been a photoshop premiere pro user for most of my time in just editing, Im just curious if i can run da vinci without fault or problems, i have asus zephrus g14 from 2020 with rtx 3060 and 16gb but 15.41 is usable and i had pro and ran fine so curious if it'd be fine with da vinci as well
Difficult to say. Premiere Pro ran like sh*t here on my machines but I have absolutely zero problems with Resolve. Then again, I've heard just as many people state the exact opposite so I'd say just try it out. Download the free version, try it out for a few days and you'll know right away if it runs without glitches or not.

💯 Not saying you shouldn't upgrade. It's totally worth it! But it's not necessary to create cool stuff... All I'm saying 😉
Not saying people should, but on a semi-professional level people basically should 😅

Waaaay faster rendering was why I upgraded. What used to take hours now takes minutes because studio can use my GPU
No GPU rendering without buying the full version? Okay thanks. I'll stick with premier.

Respect, thank you for the lesson, all about how much you get it right in production process. Thank you.
Good video which main message is that it's our creativity and craftmanship that is really the biggest obstacle, not the tools
On the other hand, if you love video editing and you will continue to have it as one of your biggest interest I think you should invest in the Studio version
I agree with both comments 🤝💯
Joris.... u are my fav YT creator thank you 🙏
Thank you Joris!
I think, i will switch to studio in the near future, to support the DaVinci team.
Thank you for this video. Very informative, entertaining and to the point. Good work.
Thank you for your every video ❤❤❤
make a work-around for me needing 120fps video while editing
8:05 need another video on this. Thanks again for your every video.
I’d love to see you recreate these videos 🙌🏽🔥 otherwise. This was fun and insightful as always!
Working on a new one as we speak 👀🔥
what I would like is a list of any upgrades that are in the free version or are they all in studio.

Your videos are excellent and eye-catching! Could easily be broadcasted on TV channels as tempting commercial advertisement.
🙏🏻🫡
Is there any difference in stabilization between the free and paid version?
Ta. Thank you for the comments. I feel better now. Finally got a computer that will run Davinci Resolve. Arrives in 3 days. Birthday today. 76 years of age. New challenge. Woohoo!
The AI noise reduction and 10bit capabilities R worth the upgrade
You make some great videos! Thanks for sharing your knowledge
and thank YOU for watching 🙏🏻🔥
Is better waiting for nab 2024 maybe have subscription model never know

I bought the speed editor as it came with the studio version for free. No regrets.
🔥💯
Always fun watching your videos 😁😁
very helpful and informative and loved your poker video just as it is :)
Maybe I'm too hard on myself 😎 Much appreciated! 🙏🏻🔥
Free version does not support F-log footage, does it?
Guys I need help. What's the best laptop to use to run resolve on it. Oh and can I get a link for it pls on Amazon or wherever?

💯 Agreed
Its pain to do masking in final cut cos theres no proper rotoscope. Yet u can achieve it with masks but if ur project is 60fps, then u know its gg 🤣
I need to export in ProRes in Windows 11. Does the studio version allow this?
5:00 But I can't say it's slow, it's lightning fast, but my pc has an RTX 3090. Rendering speed is always at max speed.

The Studio version supports multiple GPUs.
