Push is my go to! One quick tip: instead of copying, clicking the other clip to highlight it green, and then pasting--you can instead just hold 'alt' and drag the transition to the clip you want, and it will duplicate it. It's super fast. You can also use that method to duplicate most anything on the timeline, and if you want to just select one thing in a linked clip (like just the audio or video) without unlinking them, 'alt' and clicking on what you want will allow you to select just that one clip without anything else associated with it. Edit: I learned another quick way to add to multiple: if you select all of the clips you want to apply the transition to, and then click on the edge as if you were going to change the length of all clips, it will highlight ALL of them green along the edge, and then when you paste, it will apply to all of them. This is actually incredibly helpful for me! The green highlight thing to allow paste is new to me though, and will definitely come in handy when I am adding to a bunch of tracks. Thank you!
Dude adjustment clips are a game changer, makes it so much easier than constantly having to chop up my video when I want to add effects to specific sections
Its great to have a very understandable and clear english for us that english isn´t our native language. Always watching you Dunna, Grettings from méxico! 🇲🇽
I have spent so much time adding key frames that often times have to be changed, just to try out different zoom composition ideas. This adjustment clip is going to be game changing! Thanks for making such a great video!
Please do more of these videos about simple, quick, and easy motion graphics on DaVinci Resolve that actually look cool and make your videos look professional. Thanks a bunch for this one!
I have a quick question regarding the "favourites" tab, for some reason when I favourite any effect I enjoy, sometimes it'll remove it the next time I go to use it? Just curious if anyone else had this issue and how to potentially fix it. All great points, solid video! 💙
The only one of these I've used is the camera shake, but I've only used it for more violent, earth-quake-esque shaking. I just uploaded my most effort intensive video ever. I wish I'd known these before I did that, but they're definitely going in my arsenal for future videos!
Thanks Dunna, just switched to Resolve so I'm binging your videos, as I did years ago with camera shot videos when I started the channel. Care to share the font name at 5:58? (where it reads "drop shadow")
Brother, that adjustment clip is an absolute game changer. I have commentary and react videos I do pretty often and have to manually enter the zoom, x and y coordinates on clips to give myself a full frame of my face cam. I've had videos where I've manually entered coordinates over 100 times to get a zoom on on my face. The fact I could just copy and paste an adjustment clip over the top of them makes me partly furious because I've wasted so much time, but mostly elated that I now have a solution to dramatically increase my workflow. I wish I could give you a hug(but I'm sure you'll settle for a Subscribe).
Blanking fill you presented is a game changer, so far i applied 3tracks including adjustment clip to get this blurry background effect for vertical shots. I also liked this soft zoom effect that we can replicate easily to any clip thanks to adjustment clip. I've learned recently from your channel how to make 'editing to the bit' more user friendly. Very good content, thank you
5:26 you could also use the dynamic zoom function it adjust's given on the clip's time. just a small trick :) (theres also a dynamic zoom editor which allows you to adjust the direction of the zoom the total size and more)
The blanking fill and drop shadow comes in a perfect time. I will have to edit a video with a lot of pictures, what i have never done before and i already thought of ways to not just have this 2D look of a squared picture on a 2D backround...
Thanks Dunna, these are so useful! Adding this video to my list of "glad I found it, but also agonizing over the hours lost before hand" playlist. I've been shooting an interview series for about a year now, and only just found out about remote grades last month. All these tips to avoid endless copy & pastes are welcome!
Very, very helpful. I've been trying to duplicate the functionality in Fusion and these effects are so much better and easier. Thanks so much for creating this video for us. Brilliant.
Seriously! Thank you! I need to make it a mission of mine to watch a minimum 3 of your videos per day to master resolve! You just helped me in several ways. Every tip was something I needed and googled but could not find the answer for. Like the background with text! The way you described and showed it to be so seamless! Thanks man!
@@dunnadidit Do you have any tips on recording VO in davinci resolve? I followed a couple tutorials and each of them caused my video to export with left channel only audio. I am using a Blue Yeti Mic
@HeyThisIsAndrew sounds like the track that you’re recording to is a stereo track. 2 fixes, either patch your input channel to BOTH the left and right channel of that track, or make a mono track to do your VO on.
Man, I've been an Avid-->Final Cut-->Premiere editor for many, many years, and I'm just now getting into DaVinci and man is this a game changer. I hope they eat Adobe's lunch.

I prefer using Dynamic Zoom with an Adjustment layer instead of keyframing the Zoom. The best part about it is that I can easily make adjustments by modifying the Adjustment layer rather than having to go back and edit the keyframes. To make things more convenient, I have saved it in a Power Bin. 😊
That can totally be a good one! I personally find dynamic zoom a bit limiting and fidgety, I don’t like that it changes the speed of the zoom based on the length of the clip. But in certain situations it is definitely a handy call.
Wait, on 0:45 how does he split the left panel for project bin and effects panel? For one thing replace the other when opened. Is it a new feature of resolve 19?
Thanks a ton for sharing your skills with us, Dunna! Quick question though: how did you manage to move your playhead using the Shift + arrow keys? I tried it, but instead of moving the playhead, it just shifts the clip underneath by 5 frames. Even when I don't have any clips selected, it's still not working. Any tips on that?

The one thing Adobe PP did better so far though is text based editing, it's far superior to DR studio's version and I've already submitted bugs to the engineer team who have confirmed there are issues and it wasn't behaving properly. So hopefully they can catch up to PP's text based editing and it'll be pretty darn perfect. The text box wrapping is also a thing missing in DR but meh, I'll work with the workarounds. @@dunnadidit thank you very much for all of your content! Even after nearly 2 years in this software - there are always things you’re not aware of in your actual workflow. 😁
Hi Dunna, I was wondering, the title cards shown at 1:11 (Push) for example, do you hand-edit the text for every of these cards or is it one master sequence that you use instances of and enter the text via a separate text field?
This specific video is a bit different because I was trying to be cheeky by showing the effect I was going to talk about with each title card. But the push title card is the closest to what I typically use in my videos. All that is is the background on one layer and then a text+ on a layer above. When I need to create more, I just highlight those two clips (background and text) and either copy and paste or opt(alt) drag to copy them to the new location, change the text in the text+ clip and I’m done. Hope that answers your question.
While I’ve used the Adjustment Clips in a similar way, I do feel like there should be a disclaimer in that section about them. I would, first of all, recommend not using adjustment clips to Zoom. I don’t know the best technical way to phrase this? Adjustment clips will zoom in on the clip at the resolution it is at on the timeline. So, if you have 8K footage and the timeline is at 4K resolution, the zoom from the Adjustment Clip will zoom on the clip as it is on the timeline, at 4K. This means any zooming in that you do with an adjustment clip is going to start to pixelate immediately. Adjustment clips are nice if the timeline res is the max resolution you’re going to get from that media anyway, or if you wanted to apply an effect to the whole screen. But if you use Adjustment Clips to zoom in, the media will pixelate (I think even if you’re zooming in on a Fusion effect, which is technically a vector, you still get pixelation).
These are some really good tips. I appreciate you making this video and taking the time to teach us this. This is my second time watching it as of finally started to get editing down again. I'm going to try to add some of these tricks into my next video.
