      Absolutely see myself using DR on iPad ... makes for highly mobile solution ... Say you are traveling and you do not have your equipment at hand and you stumble upon a "situation of interest" .. then you can actually shoot footage with iPad and/or multiple iPhones "air drop" the footage to your iPad.. sync the footage using audio .. ... professionally package up a "multi cam" video and upload to where it should go to within minutes ... Then later polish it on your desktop using the voice isolation tool & dialogue leveler in 18.1.1 Studio ...
      Or if you and a bunch of friends get together for a friendly music jamming session, using a portable WiFi enabled video switcher that allows multiple inputs from the mobile devices at hand .. like Roland's AeroCaster ... You would be able to produce a fairly polished "music video" within the hour ...
      hmmm ... the possibilities are endless ... 🤩

      I actually bought this years iPad Pro 11 for this specific purpose - to edit videos on the go, knowing that DR is coming to this model soon. I am a diving instructor and I don't really have much time to edit videos while at home (and I do have pretty good gaming PC at home), I'd rather do it either between the dives or while traveling to and from the divesite.
      Ability to import camera footage right away after the dive, without waiting until I get home is priceless. And I can start organizing and editing it right away.
      I still need to find good weatherproof case for my iPad though :)

    • @coralreef909
      @coralreef909 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Which brings the question of why is Apple being so stubborn in its refusal to bring Final Cut Pro to the iPad? What is the reason? It’s not that they can’t, it’s that they don’t want to. What is hindering them from taking a leap of faith and bringing this very powerful professional software to a very professional machine of their making? I also find it quite amusing that so called tech experts not realizing that these M chip and A chip iPads are in fact computers. Tablets are in fact defined as being computers. We call them tablets for short and drop the word computer which has led to so much confusion to such an extent that techies try to argue that iPads aren’t computers. Hilarious really.

    • @sloppynyuszi
      @sloppynyuszi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coralreef909 because an entry level M chip isn’t the best chip for editing. If you want to do anything more than an assembly edit or a talking head TH-cam video you get an M1 Pro or more.
      Also the iPad is just pretty crap for editing full stop. It’s a touch first device and a 12.9 inch screen is small for editing. And once you plug it in to external monitors… is an iPad you really want?
      The power can be used if you using art apps for drawing, animating or 3D sculpting. If that’s not what you do, why do you want an iPad Pro? And for that the M1 and all it’s 16gb of ram comes in handy (though I still run out of layers sometimes) The device just isn’t for you mate.
      What you need is a good laptop, and entry level iPad 9 is all you need, as the pros don’t make sense for your case. And that’s totally OK.

    Fantastic work Sir!
    Many questions:
    1) Which iPads will it run on?
    2) Can you use a USB Hub?
    3) Besides the Speed Editor, can you connect a Color Panel (or MCU Control Surface)?
    4) Streamdeck?
    5) Trackball / Advanced Mouse & Keyboard?

    • @AlexPettitt
      @AlexPettitt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much for the kind words :)
      1) Will run best on M2 iPad Pro, but supported by M1 iPads and older iPads running iPadOS 16
      2) I haven’t tried but will do. I see no reason why not.
      3) Bluetooth keyboard and mouse work great in DaVinci, I haven’t tried any other third-party peripherals.
      4) Doubtful this would work just yet as iPad wouldn’t know what to do with it. But maybe in the future.

    using such a specialized keyboard with the ipad is like putting an external flash on a Sony RX100M2 camera. Thus, we don't have any external keyboard and the only tool next to the iPad is a finger or a pencil. How do you do the same thing you showed using only your finger? How to synchronize the sound from the camera and from an external recorder? Only two or three steps : select both source from recorder and from camera and issue "sync by waveform" command. This is possible on the Edit page, but this page is hidden by default. So how do you do that using the tools available on the Cut page (... and finger)?

    I hope this works on my iPad Pro mini, I cut on my custom pc with avid media composer, this will be great for hiking and want to get footage out right away instead of waiting to edit at home I can just do it right on the spot and upload, just awesome!

    Great review. Just one thing, I have all 7 icons at the bottom. Press alt-option K and you can access the keyboard layot. Then I connected all the icons to CTRL-1 to CTRL-7. Works perfect:-) You’ll find it under Switch to page.

    Great content! But is it possible to edit from the external drive so I don’t need to use internal drive? Lumafusion offers that feature

      Yes it is. Everything you see in this video is edited off an external SSD 👍

    You can add all the other tabs too. They are available. And have all the same.

    How would I connect the speed editor to my iPad to use with DaVinci?

  • @Betound
    @Betound 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you missed an opportunity to shine by talking about Color Management in the Project Settings which would have just adjusted the footage to its current code. Also audio, because so far, I haven’t seen much talk about how to organize/work with the audio in this version of DR.
    Overall, nice overview.

    Working on the same project, you can start the editing on mac, continue the editing on ipad, and finish the editing on mac ?

    7:27 why don’t you open up the edit page and not use the cut tab. Go into settings. You can access all the pages from the desktop. You can even make custom hot key them 😅

    I bought the new iPad Pro M4 for short edits. But I have a big problem with an external SSD. After I import some media, the files show up correctly in Davinci Resolve for a short time. But after a few seconds all media is offline and I can't access the media in the files app. the only solution is to restart the ipad. But even then I can't use the external SSD for editing. I have no idea what the problem is. With internal footage it works without problems...

    Can I somehow import timelapse into DaVinci Resolve on iPad? I know how to do it on the computer in Media tab, but that tab is missing in the iPad version.

    I don’t see myself switching, but there will be times (like on vacation) when I will do some vacation videos or edits to some work because I will have the iPad with me and I won’t have my more powerful rigs nearby.

    Will this DR app copy all the footage off of my SSD in order to edit it or will I be able to edit directly off my SSD and preserve my internal iPad storage?
