Amy, your health journey has not only been life changing to you, but just think about how it has benefited the lives of your children! I am sure you are more active with them along with implementing good and healthy food choices and just a very healthy way of life! So so wonderful!

Thanks, Amy for sharing your journey! Maintaining a consistent workout plan is the hardest part but I had it in my mind which would I rather do…30 mins walking or 30 mins in a doctor’s office due to not taking my health seriously.

I use to always stop what I was doing and copycat other people journey and I wind up derailing my own results
I stopped doing that and just focusing on what works for my body and I am staying consistent and I’m loving my workouts and meal plans
Now I’m helping my husband get healthy and this week is his first week and he has been really suffering with muscle cramps and soreness but I encourage him that I will get better and not to give up.. and he is overcoming

For the first question about motivation. Practice Behavioural Activation. It is a technique that slowly builds up over time to get us 'used' to actually starting something. The starting is the hardest part, spending small amounts of time doing things. Then, we can increase the time and how often we do that one thing e.g exercise. It takes our brain time to catch up emotionally with changes in our behaviour.

So proud of you and your inspiring journey! I was a runner and gym goer for years. Completed half marathons as well. Then I opened my own store and worked so much my fitness got put on back burner. In January on my 59th bday I got a good used treadmill, joined the Peloton app and I’m working out, running and have lost weight and inches and feel so much better! You truly inspired me Amy. I followed you because I loved your decor style, now I continue to follow because of your fitness journey and waiting on this new home journey ❤

Hi Amy! Some great info here! As someone who is a trainer and owner of a fitness studio I have one thing to add. If someone knows nothing about how to put a weight training or any other form of a training program together I think it wise to invest in someone who can get you started. After working with thousands of people in 50 years I know for a fact that just “following” someone on TH-cam is not necessarily a good thing. You may think you are doing the exercise correctly but if you have no knowledge of the movement and can’t see what you are doing and compare it to what you see on tv or even in a gym setting, it is very easy to do a movement incorrectly and get injured. I teach new people everyday and even many regulars who have been with me for years and they have to be reminded what muscles they are working, where they should or shouldn’t feel the exercise, etc. That perception is built over the course of exercising. You had that as an athlete even though it may have been years since you had utilized it. It’s important for athletes/dancers to understand their bodies. And once you have that knowledge, your body rarely forgets it. But beginners who really have no knowledge of even the fundamentals are not in that category. Feeling sore muscles is not always an indicator of a good workout….it can also mean 1) you did more than you should have or worked too much of one area and not enough of the opposition muscles, 2) you did some of the exercises incorrectly. Once you have built up a general knowledge of weight training and you know you are doing the movements correctly then yes, you will know who to watch on TH-cam or tv because you know what you are doing and what you are looking for. Just like you have a coach to help you attain a level of fitness to run a marathon a beginner could also use an expert to get them started in the right direction. Your body is an investment. If you want it to last you your lifetime and feel good and be strong, you have to be willing to invest in it with your time and a bit of money in the right shoes, knowlege, etc.You will pay a lot more in running to doctors when you are ill or injured. If you are an older adult, you definitely know what I’m talking about.

I just want to say thank you Amy, I have been at my goal weight for a year and a half, but was not really working out, until your video about putting yourself first, exercise and then do what you have to do at home and chores. This week I put myself first, everyday I got up an hour early, had a glass of water, and went for my 40 min walk, then came home every other day I also lifted my weights. I am enjoying this routine so much, and when I get home it’s all waiting for me, and that’s ok… a BIG thank you for your wise advice.

I have been inspired by watching your videos. I am a mom to seven kids, and have done hospice for both my parents. I homeschool my kids and they are active in basketball and music. So taking care of myself has been off the radar for a long time now. You have inspired me to take small steps toward a healthy lifestyle. I went ahead and ordered LMNT tonight and I am excited to make that another healthy option. I also really appreciate you sharing your faith. Good luck on your race! It’s so refreshing to see someone loose weight naturally without meds. It is so frustrating listening to so many loose weight and then hear they used meds . I feel defeated and start to think what’s the use.
I will try all your ideas. I want to loose 40 lbs doing what you did. Will try the 3/12/30 . Thank you so much . Love your channel.

Amy is a rock star and shows how sticking to it actually works and that there are no quick fixes! I will say, as women, weight training should be a priority for not just toning and strengthening our muscles but also for maintaining bone density. Having children, monthly cycles and hormonal changes affect our bones as does poor nutrition. When I started my health journey, I went all in on exercise, but did t change my nutrition that much and struggled losing the fat, then I heard this: you can’t out exercise poor nutrition. GAME CHANGER, so I backed off on the intense exercise and focused more on my nutrition- I back tracked what I ate and estimated my serving sizes (I was honest and humbled) and realized I was eating about 3-4000 calories a day and not much of it was nutritionally dense, so, down the rabbit hole of healthy nutrition and ignoring the “diet” guru’s and fads, I wanted to change my eating habits and foods that were sustainable for life and not just to lose weight. Again, game changer in losing weight FAT and gaining and maintaining muscle. Once I nailed the nutrition, I refocused on exercise and actually decreased the amount of cardio because lifting free weights put me in a cardio mode, so walking for 30-60 minutes a day is now my only cardio and weight training 3 days a week is all I do now. As Amy said, every one is different and has to figure out what works for them but remember, don’t overdo it to quickly achieve a weight loss goal because most times, it’s more muscle loss than fat loss and remember, as you build muscle your weight loss will slow down because you are replacing fat with muscle- it’s about the change in your body not so much the change in weight- do your close fit looser, can you now see muscle definition, sleep better, have more energy- those are the changes that show you are on the right track and are called non-scale victories (NSV’s) and my doctor encouraged me to focus more on the NSV’s than the scale. Amy, again, you are such a role model!

Just gave birth to baby 13. I am starting to try to work on pelvic floor work and walking. For moms who just had a newborn, using a baby wrap to walk allows you to get out the door, I do that from time to time. Starting on a routine is hard after having a baby. I'm hoping to ease into a routine within the next month. Recovery after baby takes longer with subsequent babies, so I've been a bit more cautious to start. Thanks for your tips, Amy.

I've signed up to run my first 10 mile run this coming September and am both excited and nervous. I've ran 5k's for years but a 10 mile is going to be my new record. I am currently running 3 days a week and today I was able to run 3 miles in 30 minutes 😊 I'm planning to increase my distance soon, but any further tips would be appreciated.

I wish I could get to the point of just having to muster up the strength just to get out the door and go to the workout but every time I move my body, I hurt myself my back my hip my everything I’m guessing I am at least 10 years older than you so I don’t know if it’s that I’ve also been sedentary for a lot longer than five years so yeah but I was able to walk and run just a few years ago just fine but now no way I can’t even walk 2 miles I did yoga stretching today and my back is killing me now lol enjoy exercising while you’re young and keep it going because when you’re 45 if you don’t have it, it’s really hard to get back . So inspired by the work you are doing just wish I was able to do more.

To motivate myself I bought new workout clothes...I only walk my dogs but its my uniform to go for a dog walk..I put them on and my dogs get excited cause they see my outfit and when I put my tennis shoes on they start barking so then I have to go....I never ever say a word to them..they know its time to go😂😂😂😂😂😂

    Great advice and spot on!
I'll be 60 in two weeks and started my fitness journey when I was young like you. Thankfully not on any pharmaceuticals either.
My favorite strength training youtubers are Caroline Girvan, Penny Barnshaw and Fitness_by KayKay.
Even at my age I still have muscle and for those that don't know strength training slows aging.😉 As we age we need strength training even more. You are spot on invest in some heavier weights. Walking and weightlifing!
Do you still live in Ohio? I'm originally from southeastern Ohio but live in Florida.....40 years now.
