Thank you Raley!! Your video really helped me out. I had to replace my fuel lines and then I couldn't remember where the lines went to put it back together the right way. Your video got me back on track and my chainsaw is back up and running! Thank you so much for the time you took to put this video out on TH-cam.
Thank you, the fuel filter is weighted and will move around in the tank. Sorry about the sound quality, that video is a few years old. We have come a long way since then, check out our newer videos. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend.
Thanks for your helpful video Raley. Bought my chain saw 11 yrs ago. 38cc Craftsman. Needs new fuel lines now. Didn't know how to replace. Thanks for showing me how. 🙂 Remember Raley, that God loves you! Have a great day! 🙂
Thank you Raley. I had time to dink around with a 20 year old Craftsman just for fun. Appeared to have minimal use but the fuel lines were in pieces beneath the carburetor. I did everything I could think of to do the job right, and it just wouldn't start. I kept thinking, I've done everything I can think of, twice, but no joy. Your video showed me I had the fuel lines incorrectly placed. As it's midnight, I can't test my final job (wife would kill me) but lesson learned: If you've done everything right, and it doesn't run, you haven't done everything right.
Thanks for this video T-bone I had to use this video for a reference to fix a craftsman chainsaw identical to the one you were working on very helpful.👍

@@RaleysSmallEngines Engines don't need a fuel filter to run, the commentor is correct. The small line is the filter to carb fuel supply line. The large line is the purge bulb to tank return line. The purge bulb is on the return side of the fuel system. I'd expect wrong information from a DIY'er tackling this project and doing a video (of which there are many youtube videos) but not from a small engine mechanic that is supposed to be knowledgeable about this stuff.
I did all this on my non running 42cc saw. While trying to start it after replacing carb, fuel lines and filter, air filter, and spark plug, it now spits fuel from the muffler. I can't find anything online that addresses my issue. Everything I fins talks about replacing a diaghram. My carb is new.
Thank you just got one from a yard sale for $20. They said it needed a new primer ball. Took it apart and nope one of the fuel lines came off. Got it all re attached. Bout to go get some fuel and test it out. Thanks for the insight. Will be looking at your other videos because i have 2 mowers that arent working and would love to get them running again.
Thank you my friend. I'm sorry my audio isn't great. I'm trying to get better and use a new mic. I really appreciate you telling me that my audio needs improvement. Love the feedback my friend. You are awesome!!!!
I was going to fish around and see if I could find my little hook wire tool, but now I'm thinking I can split the line in half the way he did and get in there with some needle nose I may be able to make it happen without digging through my entire garage looking for that wire tool
Thank you. Yes you are correct, we typically don't repair these for that reason. We did this video just to help the people that own one similar to this. Thank you for watching and commenting my friend.
This doesn’t look right. Normally the filtered intake goes into carb, carb out to primer in and primer out to fuel tank. I think your way should work but it’s not the usual configuration.
@@RaleysSmallEngines NO this saw fuel lines ARE plumbed wrong they are backwards the bigger line is the returned line and the smaller one is the intake line the one that the fuel filter goes to... the primer bulb is a one-way valve it sucks fuel from tank into top of carb thru the carb into primer bulb back to tank... placing filter on the return line in the 2 o'clock position may run but only in the up and down position turning the saw sideways will only run with a FULL tank of fuel... oh! and don't use petroleum jelly on a silicone fuel line because petroleum jelly will dissolve silicone. now is a professional mechanic myself for over 40 years I'm still trying to figure out why you used a power tool to remove the screws out from plastic parts that always causes stripping out the holes... not to mention why you remover the switch lever... was not needed to.
They ain't worth a crap no more I got one and every time I have a problem with it lately and it ain't but a couple years old and a maintenance and everything bull crap Craftsman's not Craftsman no more
nice video... too bad it was wrong; you assumed the guy before you fixed the saw right so you copied the way he installed the fuel lines and he did it wrong so you did it wrong too! two wrongs don't make a right.. No "reply" from you is needed, because I will only have to "fix" that too!
I'm not sure if it was wrong before he worked on it. Looked right to me, line going under the carb from purge bulb to large tank hole on the right and fuel filter attached to what looks to be the smaller fuel hose. Honestly, looks like he would have done it right if he would have copied how it was already done.

Great video, the audio wasn't great but could follow the actions. Would love to have been able to see where you placed the filter in the tank

The small one goes to the filter in tank to carb higher tube then fatter one to tank and primer bulb then another fat line from primer to carb
I appreciate you.
,,,,,,great video,,,,no BS,,,,describes what & where the problem is and how and why to fix it,,,,good stuff,,,14k !!!!!!
Thank you
Where do I attach the fuel line connector? The fuel line and the return line?
I think if you look at the fuel flow in the lines while pumping the purge bulb you will realize you are pulling fuel through the unfiltered hose.
What's the odds. I have the exact same chainsaw that needed fuel lines replaced. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! Now I know which tube to use where!
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching.

I have one similar to this one and I don't know how to change the chain. I hope you can help me. Thank you.
You put the filter on the return line.
Nope, ran perfectly.

The filter as any filter is to prevent undesirables from passing, not for the engine to run.
The filter was put on correcly on the suction line through the fuel tank opening.

I noticed the studs that hold carb were wiggling around in block. shouldn't they be solid??
Good observation ! Some are solid, yes. Some are loose that slide in from the backside of the plastic intake manifold. Thank you for watching !
The studs do that nothing wrong yes the wiggle
Are the parts easy to get on Amazon I just don’t want to get the wrong parts
what is the part number for that carb? i cant find anywhere...
I have this exact same saw. My carb is a Walbro WT324.
Those fuel lines are a pain to replace 😫
Yep they are
Not really, after a while you get really fast at it
Anyone know the sizes of fuel line? Not sure if it's the fuel lines or not yet. Put fuel in tank and it just leaks out.
0.080"x0.140" and 3/32"x3/16"...Contrary to the video, the fuel filter goes on the smaller line.
@@killer2600 thank you sir!!
@@killer2600 just took mine apart and yea the filter was on the other line like you said.
If I remember right that’s same size as a poulan
No no no my gas tank leaks along bottom seam!! Got a fix for that?
JB weld?
Might have to find a new body/tank housing.
There one on eBay now. Was looking up parts the other day.
@@internet_internet I found a video where the guy used super glue. Tried it and it worked
