- FIRST RIDE: The Dark Horse is almost here and Ford is ready to bring the performance. Underneath the hood is a 5.0L V8 pumping out 500HP & mated to a 6-speed manual Tremec. On the outside you will find 19in wheels, special stripes and unique rear spoiler. On the inside you will you will be greeted by Recaro leather seats, and new digital displays. That’s EVERY 5.0 Mustang. The best sound come from a GT350 and Mach 1.
@@CoyoteFTW Meh. Ford purposely neutered the 22’/23’s (EPA didn’t target the Challengers/Camaros) to make the 24’ numbers look better. It’s an easy fix at least.

I love how sharp the side character lines look here. In auto show lighting, it was hard to see those lines at times, and made the car look a little slab sided. Glad to see that in IRL lighting conditions, that won't be as much of a problem. Great looking car overall.

I didn't think I would like this one at first but it's grown on me fast. The interior is what sold me on it. My favorite aspect of the gauge screen is the Fox body aesthetic with the night green. That takes me back

Ironic, because the dash is my least favorite part of the new Mustang. Looks like someone just left two iPads on the dash and forgot about em'. Looks totally out of place.

@@legionmartin I didn't like it at first because it's not like any Mustang from before, but I was sold after seeing the 80s Ford green from when I was a teenager
The Foxbody dash is one of the things that pushed me to order one. Rest assured, when I drive away from the dealer until I no longer own the car, the dash will always be on that setting. May change for the track but street will always badge the Foxbody screen.

Look like they got some work to do still on getting the panels to fit up good. Black trim on the white looks really nice too. Engine bay looks pretty good. I don't really want or care about over the air updates.... I would like my Mustang to be tunable so I can add boost later. Down town seem like a strange place for a showing but it was nice to get her to take you for a spin despite gridlock. I'm ready to order.
They just shut down the plant to fix panel alignment issues that they were having
I had a 2017 and the panel alignment was deplorable. Looks like Ford hasn't learned how to improve that.

To hear Lori talk about the Fox body clutch was validating to my own personal experience. I had an ‘89 GT in high school and she nailed the description. But, Joe. You had the chief engineer for the Dark Horse in the driver seat the conversation was mostly on stitching colors and lighting customizations? Idk man, seems like she might have had more technical insights to give.

You were born in a better time.,..I hate being 28 now instead of in the 60s. The oldest car I had was a 72 Grand Prix.
Freakin' wheels are absolutely gorgeous and the exhaust sounds fantastic. Damn- still not wowed by the exterior or interior changes but I'm betting this is going to be quite the performer on the road.
I think it will all come together when you see it in person.
@@RaitisRides I'm too too much of a traditionalist. It was hard enough for me to absorb/accept the S550, w/its smooth lines and gaping front end but I've gotten use to it. W/the S650, the loss of the dual cabin cockpit, and the obvious visual elements of the Camaro and Challenger in the exterior redesign- nah, just doesn't call to me. Luckily, they'll be plenty of folks desperate to get into one and looking to rid themselves of their '10-14 S197 and latter gen S550 to keep me occupied for some time.
I saw an entire fleet drive out of Allen Park Michigan yesterday.. I think the car is magnificent

Really like what they've done here. I love my Roush Stage 3, so I'm curious to see if Roush will be one of the Ford partners for aftermarket modification. A couple of years from now, I'll be looking to trade up to another supercharged beast! Thanks for another great review!

It’s still a prototype the production version will get that fixed. That’s what one of the engineers said

If tunes come out for it I'll definitely grab one then throw on an exhaust, set of long tube headers, some intakes with a new wheel setup and I'm good to go!
The fact that you so casually throw out there that a “tune” is your qualifier to buy one and not the crazy price or the performance seemingly offering either caution or motivation to buy it. It’s so ridiculous on he face of it that I’m not even mad. It’s probably just how you worded it. I’ll say nothing of the dubious benefits of a tune on a naturally aspirated engine or the fact that the exhaust on this monster, which by all rights beautiful and beautifully tuned is the first thing you wanna tear out. You are either obscenely rich and know not the value of a dollar, or you are a 14 year old kid with zero life experience. Im sure there is a middle option…but I’m on a roll. 😂 anyhow, who cares what I think. I just find it funny yet slightly enraging and I’m a calm man.
To be clear, I understand the value and performance gains that can be had with a naturally aspirated engine, but it would be good to do some deep research to see if it’s even needed or ultimately beneficial enough to void out the engines warranty. That it doesn’t appear you could be happy with a stock one for even a short time is actually hilarious. For some reason this make me like you all the more. You must be a crazy sum-of-a-bitch and a fun time on track days. Carry on soldier.
@@TheLumberJacked cars like these are meant to be driven and pushed to their limits, for me it has nothing to do with money, I just enjoy modifying and personalizing my cars to make them truly mine. Yes the stock tune is probably great but 500hp on a mustang isn’t anything special, at least for me. I’ve driven many that pushed past 500 and 700-800 is really the sweet spot for these cars. It’s genuinely exciting to drive all the time when they’re pushing that kind of power. Anyways, Saleen announced their high Hp packages already for the dark horse so I’ll definitely be going with them if I don’t swap to a Supra and get that car up to 650hp since it handles power extremely well.

Great review Joe! Very excited for the DARK Horse. I think Ford is really going out there with the redesign philosophy for their iconic vehicles. Makes me wonder what the redesigned Explorer and Edge with the refreshed F150 will bring to the table. I also find it a coincidence that the chief engineers name is Lori too!

Great value? It can be optioned close to 80k. Most will be about 70k and you can get a zl1 with 150 more hp and torque for the same price.
That panel gap above the grill can’t be unseen.

I'm considering buying this model but looking at the fitment of the hood and the top bumper seems to be way off. Hopefully Ford does a better job with the released consumer versions. I'll wait to see if all looks good in person before committing to buying one. It's a nice looking car though!

What I really look forward to hearing is about the handling. If it’s not a handling improvement, I’ll stay 550. If it’s a big jump I may have to consider it.
I really hope we can tune the S650 cars… I have a GT Premium on order and already have parts planned with Lethal performance and BMR suspension, hoping everything works out and we can make these cars even faster like before

they are letting certain companies access it right of the bat, like roush, whipple etc but it will be locked down for most people unfortunately. that being said, David is right it is only a matter of time before they crack it

I ordered a GT as I figured it was 95% of the Dark Horse for 25% less. I hope to see some videos on that as that's going to be a lot more popular than the DH. Did Lorie comment on when she expects these cars to start arriving to customers/dealers?

@@ibelieve3111 I hope I get mine well before that. If mine comes past July I'm going to cancel my deposit. I live in the upper Midwest and I'm not going to take delivery of a 500 horsepower rear drive car come fall or winter. Would be really stupid on Ford's part to time it that way.

There won’t be any for dealers for a long time. If a dealer has one on the lot, most likely an ordered car that was declined. I still don’t think Ford has delivered any Mavericks to a dealer (non-ordered) and they’ve been out for awhile.

Yeah, it is definitely getting marked up. Even with Ford's friends and family plans, you can get a deal for a Mustang GT premium, but they won't provide it for specialty vehicles such as the Dark Horse, Mach 1, or GT500. Still, as you mentioned, the Dark Horse looks like it is going to be an amazing car.

They explained the mustang experience so well. I have a 2017 mustang gt, I'm 18 and bought it myself, and I will just drive because I want to. Nowhere to be just wanting to drive.
I'm a GM guy. Among others I've owned... 1988 corvette, 1991 Corvette ZR-1, Cadillac CTS-V, Silverado 2500 diesel...well you get the picture. I bought a new 1988 Ford Mustang GT. (yes in 1988) with the 5.0. It sounded great. Although I like GM products I do admit Mustangs sound really good. Thanks for the video Joe!
