Honda wants to get a cut of the ADM money, and I don’t blame them. My bigger issue is that for the next year you could buy a Camaro 1LE for the same money. So if you don’t need a (usable) back seat, the choice is obvious. The 1LE will obliterate the CTR in overall performance.
Core edition is watered down. Circuit has added vents, bigger wing for improved aero, LSD and carbon roof among other things. It would cost you a lot more if you buy a Core and try to add all the things. Type R is priced competitively with the Circuit which is the one people would want.
Love the car reviews! I have a 2019 CTR, Full Bolt On's pushing close to 400whp when I put in E85. I Love the Interior of the new CTR, however that outside you called it and its true, they went to the other end of the spectrum and it is way to tame now. Keep the reviews coming and looking forward to the track testing with GR, Golf R and CTR head to head.
Poor James! 😂 Always love the throttle house way. Good honest review on a highly anticipated car. Can’t wait until you get your hands on back in Canada. Loved my 2017 and was really considering getting the 2023. That was until I tried 3 local dealers who said I’d be lucky to get one in the next 2-3 years due to low supply and a few people on the waiting list. I’m sure this will be 55-60k with mark up too, not to mention interest rates that are double what they were 2 months ago. Not paying that for a civic. Honestly disappointed with the price. Going to be “44k” with destination…does it even come with heated seats or steering wheel? The previous gen price I could forgive that but at mid 40’s it should have a few more options that are standard on basic cars.
Those were my thoughts as well. The prices are just getting nuts, it's still a civic even if only in name. I personally would choose this or the Si last if for no other reason than the stupid electric parking brake, I just can't bring myself to accept it, and the red interior is nothing more than a "LOOK AT ME" "feature". I LOVE red with cars but no way would I live with that.
Definitely not as interesting as the FK8 but so much more clean. I think it will age super well and will be able to take some more subtle racey mods to make it look a little more aggressive if that's what you want. Honda just needs to make the exhaust sound so much better. If it sounded like the Veloster N or Focus RS stock, I would be so excited for it. Sound is at least half of why I like to hoon a hot hatch around. Excited to see these on the road and hope people can get them for decent prices. I have a feeling a ton of the boy racers are just going to stay with the FK8 once the price goes down and maybe the average age of driver will go up a bit on the FL5. I guess I'll have to wait and see how many new Type R's try to race me when it's finally out lol.
It will not age well. Its a box with a wing. It will age like an early 2000s ricer car. A slow car that cost too much with a wing and nothing unique about it. Sure the last one was CRAZY but that was fun. This one looks like a car you mom would buy and her teenage son slapped a pep boys wing on. Also for the real world price of near $50k, can Honda not give me a $15k car interior? The seats are awesome, everything else looks like budget crap.
@@TheBajamin i would rather have better steering feel and faster track times than better interior quality... And so, in this hot hatch segment, this criteria you mentioned shouldn't be deal breakers.
@@MrJjburgess11 just about $32k after destination where I'm at. 2021 Civic SI went up $2300 last year and about a thousand this year... And lost another standard expensive upgrade like heated seats and 4 adjustable dampers, one of which alone cost about $450 to replace retail, and there's 4, that's almost $2000 alone right there. The markups on the hondas are also insane.! Elantra N, Subaru STI, Mazda 3 turbo, not so much. You can actually get those for under MSRP if you ship around. The Civic Type R went up about $$5000 in just one year, that's atrocious, Luke with the Nussa Z, although that did get a better engine upgrade, Civic type R with just a model change and better tuning almost no performance upgrades.
Honda has always been the king of FF and I am glad this thing still handles like a champ. My CR-Z rotates a lot if you lift off which mad it so fun, can't wait to test drive this thing!
I actually always liked the previous design. And it’s true that looks just like my 2022 accord with a wing attack to the back. At that price point. I rather go for the manual transmission Supra: and do feel like you’re on something different
The fact that it has no fake vents is enough of an improvement for me. I think this car looks best in any color other than white. That red looks great.
same superb performance, with ( now) elegant "shooting-brake" style that looks gorgeous.... And real practical and usable physical buttons on the dashboard instead of an all-screen-style for which you would otherwise have to look away from the road to change whatever.... They took all the best features from the previous generation and made a car that looks much better too... that is what I call the recipe of success
Always been a huge fan of thr type R and the styling of the previous Gen i loved the most as it WAS different. I still love this design but i feel they played it too safe.
Knew everyone thinking the new Type R was going to be just barely over $40k (US) would be wrong. Used 2021’s are still damn near $50k for the last 12+ months and people buy them at that price, which Honda certainly sees, combined with inflation and I’d say we’re lucky they didn’t price it quite a bit higher
Absolutely disgusting I’d never buy a civic for that much at that price point buy the damn golf r or Audi s3 both are faster and just as fun for like 2k more after destination who the fuck is buying this thing 😂😂 hell I’d get the base supra for 43k instead of this thing no I’d get the Elantra n basically a better version of this thing for 12k less
I think the most underrated comparison people aren’t making is between the cost of this type R (with the markup) and the TLX Type s. It’s also a Honda, it’s faster, nicer inside and out, and is a true luxury car. Yes it may not be the same track weapon as this, but at 55 grand for the Type S, and 60-75 for this Type R… I’d go to the Acura dealer asap.
The previous model's wing may have been out there but it did look like it was designed like that. The new one just looks like default long car with random spoiler attached. Overall the old one had a better more cohesive design even if it was more "look at me!".
Stellar video gents. Loved the honourable mention of PartSource lol. As always, great combination of information, opinion and humour. I’m a sub for life.
I don’t think it’s gorgeous at all, but it’s not hideous like the last generation. So that’s a HUGE improvement. If this was a $15K used car I could pick up as a beater I’d get one, but there’s now way I’d pay MSRP much for this car. It’s cool, but not $45K cool.
@@ak2112 here in Europe nearly all i30 N´s with the same engine are tuned and they make no problems, a stage 1 tune with 30 - 50 HP and 80 - 100 NM more torque is nothing for this engine.
For anyone with a 2020 or later Type R or Civic SI, if you are like me and can't stand the manufactured engine noise, the module that creates it is under the dashboard, behind the glove box. You have to actually remove the glove box to get at it and the module has way more wires going into it than you'd think would be needed. Once removed, you will no longer hear the fake engine noise. I keep the module in the glove box in case a future owner of my SI wants to add the noise back in, but I vastly prefer what little ambient engine noise I get to whatever this module was producing.
I couldn't care less about how it performs on the track. How is it to live with every day on normal roads? With how violently I see the cabin being disrupted on a relatively smooth track, I'm thinking it's going to be a disaster in the street. I'd rather take the Golf R with a nicer ride and better road isolation while giving up all out performance. 95% of these CTR's won't go within a 100+ miles of a track.

Love the Type R, but for $44,000 its a much tougher choice. The GR Corolla starts at $36k and for the top options is $38k.
Top GRC is $50k bud
@@dannyd7714 He means a fully loaded GR Corolla Core, not the Moritzo.
Corolla has a tiny engine that blows headgaskets at 500hp - you can eaily make 640hp with a Type R which is lighter
I really loved the 2020 civic type r it really felt a true new gen type R
Great job guys. The car is a beast. 👍🏼
Doesn’t matter how fast it is, it will always be a Honda civic
Thomas conoció al viejo sabroso en la prueba del Type R 😳
Dont you ever take away the head bump getting into car away from your intro, its still the best part of your intro
That outtake at the end is great lol
We miss you James!
Thomas held it down tho ✊🏾✊🏾
@@TheBajamin as if the golf r has nicer interior materials or bolder exterior styling...
@@razvan3062 Are you not aware that more than one thing can be a ripoff at once?
@@TheBajamin i would rather have better steering feel and faster track times than better interior quality...
And so, in this hot hatch segment, this criteria you mentioned shouldn't be deal breakers.
The price increases on the si and type r are insane!
And that's before the markups.
Prices on cars are up across the board. The VW GtI is 35-37k now .
@@Tigerex966 yeah , crazy times we are in now. Everything getting out of control. Gas was going down. Now its on its way back up. 😞
Honda has always been the king of FF and I am glad this thing still handles like a champ. My CR-Z rotates a lot if you lift off which mad it so fun, can't wait to test drive this thing!
Den Motor gibt es jetzt seit sagenhaften 7 Jahren . das ist unfassbar .
Excited to see your track times to see how the Elantra N compares 😍
I actually always liked the previous design. And it’s true that looks just like my 2022 accord with a wing attack to the back. At that price point. I rather go for the manual transmission Supra: and do feel like you’re on something different
The fact that it has no fake vents is enough of an improvement for me.
I think this car looks best in any color other than white. That red looks great.
It look really good in that sky blue paint
"The underside of a horseshoe crab" is actually the perfect description of how the old car looked. Wow
same superb performance, with ( now) elegant "shooting-brake" style that looks gorgeous.... And real practical and usable physical buttons on the dashboard instead of an all-screen-style for which you would otherwise have to look away from the road to change whatever.... They took all the best features from the previous generation and made a car that looks much better too...
that is what I call the recipe of success
$50k+ is insane.
Right, just get a Supra at that point
Always been a huge fan of thr type R and the styling of the previous Gen i loved the most as it WAS different. I still love this design but i feel they played it too safe.
Knew everyone thinking the new Type R was going to be just barely over $40k (US) would be wrong. Used 2021’s are still damn near $50k for the last 12+ months and people buy them at that price, which Honda certainly sees, combined with inflation and I’d say we’re lucky they didn’t price it quite a bit higher
It’ll go up slowly
Absolutely disgusting I’d never buy a civic for that much at that price point buy the damn golf r or Audi s3 both are faster and just as fun for like 2k more after destination who the fuck is buying this thing 😂😂 hell I’d get the base supra for 43k instead of this thing no I’d get the Elantra n basically a better version of this thing for 12k less
@@musclecarenjoyer this. Dude its a civic underneath it all. I can't believe they want 42 before the dealers get ahold of you.
@@musclecarenjoyer lol Audi s3 is not faster than a type r …. Golf r is also not faster , only off a dig .
Markups will be 65k plus.
Styling wise somewhere in the middle of this and the last one would have been perfect. That spoiler really does look like something off Amazon.
I think the most underrated comparison people aren’t making is between the cost of this type R (with the markup) and the TLX Type s. It’s also a Honda, it’s faster, nicer inside and out, and is a true luxury car. Yes it may not be the same track weapon as this, but at 55 grand for the Type S, and 60-75 for this Type R… I’d go to the Acura dealer asap.
manual is the difference
The previous model's wing may have been out there but it did look like it was designed like that. The new one just looks like default long car with random spoiler attached. Overall the old one had a better more cohesive design even if it was more "look at me!".
yeah, It looks like a cheap Ebay wing. Im sure it is easy to remove it though.
The last gen looked ridiculously stupid from every angle. I'd be embarrassed to be standing near it let alone be seen in one.
@@redrock861 yep… 🤮🤮🤮
@@redrock861 embarrassed? Man im embarrassed to be driving the highest trim Civic. So many ways that could be taken.
@@redrock861 true, this gen civic automatically looks 10x better without the obscene amounts of fake vents and generally cleaner overall design
Been a fan of the Latest Gen of type Rs. Although I'm an owner of a MK5 Supra, seeing these cars come out brings a lot more fun on the road!
You got Checo to do a review with you!!! This is epic!
Stellar video gents. Loved the honourable mention of PartSource lol. As always, great combination of information, opinion and humour. I’m a sub for life.
Let's be honest, the new type R is absolutely gorgeous👌🔥
Yeah, really do like the more matured look. I’m sure it’ll grow on many.
Old one better
I like the look alot but it’s so big.
Must be styled for American taste , i think it looks horrid. So fat and bloated!
Undoubtedly on the large side, but possibly the best looking CTR since EK9. The last gen looked like a parody of itself.
I think it´s better to buy a Elantra N, put a stage 1 tune on it for 500 - 800 $ to get the same or more HP as the Type R and save $ 10k.
And have horrendous looks and crap interior build quality.
good luck with that tuned Hyundai
@@ak2112 here in Europe nearly all i30 N´s with the same engine are tuned and they make no problems, a stage 1 tune with 30 - 50 HP and 80 - 100 NM more torque is nothing for this engine.
@@ak2112 have fun spending 43k on a fwd car
@@jacobdicicco2044 more like 55k+ after Mark up,taxes and dealership accessories lol
Dealers are trying to charge $90k for this car off the lot. They are insane.
Well... I have to admit I like the look of the outgoing model more :) This model is easier to wax though.
Just the styling alone makes this infinitely better than previous gen.
I’d recommend watching either Tedward or TheTopher
