Under initial braking the weight is transferred to the front wheels quickly and solidly but more importantly, when he begins to trail brake and put in steering lock at turn in, diagonal weight transfer is great. The outside rear gets weight that is equal to the outside front heading toward the apex, meaning the car is rotating and the driver can hold a consistent lock. The car looks really fun. @Jay They don't have to. Everyone knows the Megane is a superior car, and that Honda cheats by using non-stock cars for setting records. Look how oversteery this car is, how sharp the front end is. Impressive use of 6th gear (4 times). No other driver of the stock FL5 has managed that on the Nordschleife with the usual longer gearing they have in 6th. I for one am shocked that a professional racing driver got different characteristics out of a car than an accountant/YT vlogger. Also this is the CTR-S edition, as noted in their press release. Similar to what Renault did with the Trophy R, but Honda changed MUCH less than they did from the stock car.
@@JacobMueller how do you know if they've changed much less if the spec of the car is not even available? Different gearing ratios and turbo boost is not a minor change. Renault didn't change anything in the engine, they've simply removed backs seats, 4 control (which quite a lot of people didn'tt like anyway) and added 2 carbon parts (hood and diffuser). carbon breaks and wheels that were used to break the record are an overkill but you can still get them if you want as an option. Really short gear ratio from 5th to 6th gear… at 1:14 gear indicator lights are already lit? Shorter gear ratio I see. Don’t think it’s a stock Honda type R, I’ve watched other videos of the Honda on auto barn and other race tracks and the Honda seems to have longer gear ratios from 5th to 6th. Impressively good driving though.
that engine sounds sooo good. Honda imo has the best engine sounds..especially for the price.. sure you can make any engine sound amazing for an extra $20-100k more, but it takes true engineering to bring an amazing sound at a more affordable price.. I've had accords and even odysseys with amazing feeling and sounding engines. props to Honda.. inshaAllah I will be buying a type R soon.
Honda, well done for setting the record lap on that iconic track, but not doing you justice that you never mention the pilot who drove the car in that thrilling manner.
A few comments flying around the internet about 6th gear being shorter on this car. Hope not.....Also people think the boost may have be turned up for this application - @ 3:44 it reaches 1.83bar. I think that's kind of of grasping straws because the stats say the car runs at 25.2psi which is just over 1.73bar. However, when we factor in it beats the Megane Trophy R by the narrowest of margins, any advantage from the actual production vehicle needs to be taken into consideration. In Hondas, defence, its manufacturing far more than 500 cars so this task of becoming fastest FWD was always going difficult to extremely difficult. I hope its all been done "lawfully" though.....if there is such a thing in the motorsport industry.

proper driving here. i really appreciated the telemetry, track map, and especially the pedal view
I am not only impressed by the car but the foot work alone it beautiful. It absolutely fascinates my how the human brain can process so much at one time.
Had a DC2R back in the day, hard to imagine how far the Type-R has gone.
THE KING IS BACK.
Sabine Schmitz still holds the record for fastest lap with these new series of type R
R.I.P
Unfortunately she wasn’t able to verify this in person late last year
the most impressive is the clutch that managed to handle his foot steping on it the whole race..
There’s always a bit of take up before the clutch actually disengages so he’s doing that to get quicker shifts.
Машина и гонщик достойны уважения. Браво Хонда!
Keep pushing, go Honda
And the entry into the Karousel wasn’t the cleanest. Super impressive lap time.
Because the car is 2 stiff for the ring and the driver is way other the limits
Yeah, if the driver had another lap they would have taken another line through there. But overall not a lot of other obvious errors.
That wasn't long after the big moment at 4:19, he was a little less sharp for the thirty seconds that came after that. That is, judging by the driver's extremely high standards!
Something is funny about that 6th gear being so short compared to stock...
Racing drivers are in fact insane. I hope to be able to push my Evo X this hard one day.
lol I was thinking that too
Can't get over how bro is riding on the clutch the whole time.
OMG I’ve been so curious abt the whole clutch riding situation but doesn’t seem like anyone else noticed
@@glincolnracing1622 had to f-search the comments. riding and then also gradual press to change gears. why?
Yea. I was searching for this comment. I can't stop smelling the clutch burning.
Interesting to see how well the rev matching worked under pressure.
3:30 looks like it's not very good
So satisfying watch this Champion handle this most beautiful Civic!
4:19... Absolutely fantastic 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Amazing driving - now I have no excuses to not be first on track day haha
I kept my eye on the foot controls most of the time. I like the auto downshift blips for some odd reason.
and seems fk8 driver for 2017 record did not use auto-rev match
WHY Honda shorted the gear ? I think 4th, 5th and sure 6th. Hitting only 250kph very hard.
that engine sounds sooo good.
Cars with similar laptimes. Very impressive

3:29 so close to a money shift
proof that you don't need fancy footwork to be fast
Not surprised to see you here Dan, you legend! Got myself a dc2 so can’t wait for more dc2 content from you 😉
and auto rev matching on downshifts
Wow 😮 epic run.
Running higher boost and different gear ratios??
The pizza got there in under 8 minutes. Great hustle
😂😂
Idk who's more impressive, the car or the driver
Is this a special edition with more boost and different ratios ?
It must be 😂
What modifications over the original car were made?
Turns out they had a shorter sixth gear and running more boost
Honda, well done for setting the record lap on that iconic track, but not doing you justice that you never mention the pilot who drove the car in that thrilling manner.
King of the ring 🇯🇵🥵
" The Civic they used didn’t have airbags, an AC, or electric mirrors. It also had a wider body, higher boost, different gearing, and the oil cooler out of Honda’s Formula One car. Autocar is reporting the Type R used had 385 horsepower. Nissan tested a stock Type R on the Nurburgring three weeks ago and got a time of 7:47. Porsche did the same thing and got 7:46." this is everything that they are accused of
looks like this one have more boost than mine ? 🤔
Amazing lap🎉👏🙌!
Very good lap.
I need a 10 hour loop of this to sleep
So relaxing
