    So glad to have you back! This 2D art was such a big inspiration for me growing up. I remember being really young and thinking Zelda looked so beautiful. Oot has one of the best designs she’s ever had. And yes all the little details on her are a pain to draw lol

    So I just watched your N64 Era Mario renders video, and then clicked on this one; glad to hear you turned your mic up! :D

    Dude, this is amazing. I have the Collector’s Disc for GameCube and always loved looking at the art for Ocarina and Majora on the menu and in the manual. The art in the manual was a bit sparse, but there was still enough to keep me interested when I was little. I even remember bringing the manual to school with me once just to look at the renders and art. If you’re able to look it up, there’s actually a really cool render of the Master Sword on the table of contents page that I still love to just look at from time to time. Mostly because it’s actually shown to be purple rather than blue.
    Anyway, I’m planning to introduce a friend of mine to the series and thought I’d start her off with these two. And this video is perfect because I also really wanna show her just the art, since she’s an artist and I feel like she’d connect more with that than the games themselves. So thank you for compiling all this together. You’ve absolutely earned a sub ❤

      Oh my gosh, I totally took the Collector's Edition's manual (alongside Super Smash Bros. Melee's and Super Mario Sunshine's) with me on long car rides just so I could look through the artwork. Good to know I'm not the only one!
      Your emphatic support is highly appreciated! Thanks a bunch for sharing the series, I hope your friend enjoyed/enjoys it!

    8:00 I'm pretty sure I've heard somewhere that "Moblin" is literally a contraction that translates to "Forest Goblin". Although don't quote me.

    It’s stuff like this, videos that passionately appreciate little things like this, that make TH-cam worth it. The casual and self-honest tone is cozy as a campfire, engaging and human, odd to point out i know but it’s surprising how uncommon it is. This is a lovely place you’ve made, these videos.

    • @Kirbunny

      Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear that the series turned out as comfortable as I envisioned it. Talking about my highly specific interests is so much more fun than wrangling the more superficial elements of TH-cam, so I look forward to continuing the series when I get a chance!

    I've always gotten this vibe that Nintendo executives didn't expect OOT to do very well... the lack of renders, the way it was just kind of thrown out there with minimal advertising, and the truncated development time compared to a lot of their other first party title on the N64.

      If I may ask, how old are you? As someone who was alive in 1998 in America, I can tell you that OoT was everywhere on anything even partially related to Nintendo. They hyped its release from early 1998 until its release that November.

    The N64 Zelda’s alongside Twilight Princess are really cool artwork illustrations for this series.

    In a weird way the lack of Dark Link artwork enhances his encounter. Similarly to the monsters from the well and Shadow Temple, the fact that they make absolutely no appearance in any promotional material makes them all the more terrifying when they appear in game because you had no indication they were going to be there.

    I like how first pictures of young link and adult link both have basically the same pose, same with Zelda and Gannon.

    I really like this series. You can see the quality of the videos improve as the series goes on and it's nothing but commendable! Heck, now I know about an epic site hosting all of these nice illustrations, which is always nice. I enjoy looking at stuff like this. The effort you've put into these videos is seriously impressive, and I hope you enioy making them as much as I enioy watching 'em, sir! My hat's off to you for the incredible job!

      Thank you so much! Everything from the research to the editing is a blast. (Okay, fighting with DaVinci Resolve can be annoying on occasion, but still!) It's just fun to share a bunch of thoughts that would've otherwise been bouncing around in my head for years on end.

    21:45 - OoT3D is a remaster, not a remake. It is based on the original N64 game's source code. Same for MM3D. Grezzo just took the original source code and prettied it up for the 3DS releases.

    I love your in depth analysis of these awesome illustrations! The Zelda series has some fantastic artwork~
    Unless it's on your list already, might I suggest that you add the art of Yoshi's Island (or the Yoshi series as a whole) to your list? That game has such a unique visual style that's perfectly represented in its official art, would love to hear your thoughts on it :)

    • @Kirbunny
      @Kirbunny  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You know what’s weird? Adult Zelda is blonde in-game but rather brown-ish in the artwork.

    The rather garish colors and heavy use of overlayed textures in the OoT artwork, makes me think this was VERY early use of digital image editing. When maybe the software and people's experience using it wasn't quite there yet.

    • @Kirbunny
      @Kirbunny  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a good observation! I had a similar thought while I was writing the script, but I didn't want to raise it in case I was way off base. They definitely went ham on some characters' textures, particularly Skull Kid's and the Deku Scrub's. And it makes sense that Majora's Mask largely dropped the more extreme elements; once the tech was a bit more established, they might've found it easier to reign themselves in.

      It looks to me like they drew the linework on paper, and then digitally scanned them to put the colours in. Although, some of them (particularly the OoT art of young Link pulling out the Master Sword, and the one of him and Zelda sitting together), look to have been coloured traditionally as well, based on my experience with alcohol markers.

    oh my gosh. that one which looks a bit like the cover of doom? if you flip the image it is almost IDENTICAL to doom's cover in terms of composition and placement and poses of the enemies. almost certianly an intentional reference or an insane coincedence.

    • @Kirbunny

      Good catch! Everything lines up nicely, including the green-clad hero fighting off enemies to his right and the closest enemy to the camera lurking near the bottom left corner.
