  • The promised Christmas special is finally done! 'Tis the season to bask in good vibes, so I urge you to sit back and enjoy this smorgasbord of renders from many a Christmas past. A video of this size was a much easier lift, although I think the rest of my life became even busier to compensate. Oh well, we're finally here. Happy holidays, everyone!

    The artwork on the 1998 Xmas card reminds of those travelling carnival funhouses with unlicensed use of various gaming characters.

      Perfect analogy. We just need a guy in a filthy, emaciated Luigi costume to complete the scene.

    The card illustration at the end had me in SHOCK

    I have three families on my mom's side. Christmas 1997 we all got Nintendo 64s. My mom's side is big into hosting parties, so we each hosted a party at my mom's and aunts' houses, and we each played each other's game we got that Christmas (my family got Diddy Kong Racing, next oldest family got Mario 64, and the oldest cousins got Goldeneye) genuinely one of my favorite memories ever.

    I might as well stimulate engagement with this video and leave a comment
    In 2018 I was 5 years younger than I am now (who would've guessed?) I was at a point in my life where Christmas break was not dominated by desperately trying to schedule time off of work and take a break from classes, but by Muppet specials, monkey bread, and video games. On this particular Christmas my parents got me a Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The latter was still a fairly new game, so my hype was intense. After unwrapping my present and having my dad hook everything up for me, I sat down for about a week straight and played both of those games. SSBU had a reputation for being hard to unlock everything (that being the 70+ characters), but I had nothing better to do. My Switch almost overheated because of how long it was on actually. I then quickly breezed through Super Mario Odyssey twice over break before going back to beating every classic mode route in SSBU. To this day, it's still the most nostalgic Christmas of my life. Me, wrapped in a blanket next to a heater, only stopping my game when my console was about to melt. Good times

      Thanks for sharing! That type of Christmas indulgence was always the best, just taking a bunch of time to explore every inch of new games. And my experience with Ultimate was similar; I bought it on launch day, spent that entire weekend on nothing but unlocking characters and spirits, and then needed to tear myself away to study for exams. I survived, albeit just barely! And then I dove right back in when my actual winter break arrived.

    Gosh, holiday renders are so cozy. It's always a treat whenever a new one pops up that I haven't seen before, especially if it's an old one. While not Nintendo or Rare-related, there's a whole plethora of NiGHTS renders themed around the holiday thanks to Christmas NiGHTS, so if you're planning on doing a continuation themed around Sega next year, there's something you can easily look into. Nice work on this!

    Pretty big missed opportunity for Nintendo not to make the winter-themed Bowser outfit Krampus.

    • @cannibalisticrequiem
      @cannibalisticrequiem 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Krampus wasn't really big in America until relatively recently, and as far as Japan goes, I've heard different stories saying that Japan doesn't really celebrate Christmas, and those who do celebrate the Americanized version. Between the two, I don't really know which division of Nintendo would have any interest in adding a Krampus reference back in the 90s and early to mid 2000s. Your only option would've been Nintendo of Europe, and I don't know if they would have made a reference to Krampus, as the idea of Krampus or Krampus Night comes from Northern Germany's Krampusnacht, a holiday celebrated by only a small handful of towns near the alps at the time, so it's likely the rest of Europe would not have really known or cared that much about Krampusnacht.

    I still remember the Christmas i got my Nintendo Gamecube and i still play it to this day! I usually play winter/snow themed levels like Hoth or other ice covered game worlds.
    Merry Christmas!

      Oh man, there's a ton that I could say about when I got my GameCube. I may have to save that topic for next year's holiday special. And winter/snowy levels are an excellent pick! This video was a good excuse to explore a few while doing something semi-productive. Merry Christmas indeed!

      @@Kirbunny I'd love to see that topic done as a video next year, and Merry Xmas to you too!

    Christmas renders! Ah yes, when my favourite videogame mascots all dress up in their jolliest gladrags and spread that Christmas cheer! I love renders like these, as they always evoke that comforting feeling of sitting in your cozy house, unpacking presents with the rest of the family.
    These videos are of exceptional quality, good sir! I always love to check out renders like this, and these videos scratch that oddly specific itch very well. I wish you a merry Christmas in advance!
