the ULTIMATE SILVERADO INTERIOR UPGRADE & DIC wiring how-to GMT800

  • The interior of Uglytruck my 2000 Silverado 1500 has seen better days, and the dashboard was cracked beyond repair, so it was time to do something about it, and make a few more upgrades at the same time. A short time ago, I had the opportunity to grab a complete interior from a 2001 GMC Yukon Denali, and now its getting transplanted into my GMT800 Silverado, which means its getting a new instrument cluster, new center console, new dash top, and of course the new cluster bezel, transforming the inside of my Silverado into a near denali. These steps are specific for a 1999-2002 silverado and sierra, but the same basic concepts can apply for the later 2003 to 2007 silverado and sierra as well. Also, we're wiring in a drivers information center/trip computer or DIC into the console to help keep track of the silverado fuel mileage from the turbo big block. I do love the gadgets, and it will be cool to watch it run. I had thought about installing the leather denali seats into my silverado, but because my rear seats are cloth it would be a mis match, and that would bug me so I decided against doing that.

    hey guys: I'm looking for a 2001+ denali front clip, in black, somewhere close to Utah. Hood, grille, bumper, lights, and all. Let me know if you've got anything!

      I had great luck with some cheap DDM HIDs on my 03 Sierra Denali. Later retrofitted Morimoto lenses into the stock Denali housings using an adapter plate.

    Man it looks so good. I just did the "big brake" upgrade to 2008-2013, power stop kit from summit today. I think I might go scavenge a Denali or 2 for this build next year. It's a 271k mile truck and it'd be good to feel that "new car" vibe.

When I watch your videos in particular I always feel like the music added is too loud and needs to be brought down a few db - particularly on transitions where you may be talking or explaining something. I have the radio you mentioned form eBay “1 factory radio” it’s awesome in my gmt 400 (same radio), I got the one with a CD player, headphone jack and AV wires for amp hook ups NO Bluetooth. The Bluetooth is only for music you can’t use it as a hands free, only the headphone jack hook up works for talking, it comes in perfect and clear, I’ve had mine for 4 years now with no problems. You can get a “work truck” cubby tray form a gmt 400 to replace that 6 disc it fits in a gmt 800 also eBay or Amazon buy.

    I have a 2002 base model Silverado, you think if I get a 2003 Denali I can change the dash and everything completely and make it electric?

    I think I would just do the correct full Denali swap...seats,panels,etc. Find a rear leather bench. I have slight back issues and really love using heated seats to loosen up abit...that is probably why Im thinking that direction 😅

    Hey LT, I have a 2004 Silverado I want to convert the overhead console for a console with homelink. I was wondering can you just use the stock harness with only the console lights and just share those wires to power the homelink or should I just go get a harness appropriate for homelink?

      from looking at my homelink roof console, it looks like it has the same plug on the body harness, and they just split power in the console side... should be plug and play with a non-homelink truck. (I think, haven't tried it yet)

    You can rob the light bulbs out of an instrument cluster for back lights on the DIC

    If Canada was closer, I just picked up a loaded silvy 2004 electric 4x4 leather/heated/memory and 5.3 I only wanted the frame.

      Do you have stock or aftermarket radio and how’d you run the green signal wire (I’m doing both rightnow controls and interior swap)

    I know I'm late lol but when installing the instrument cluster with the transmission temperature gauge, is it plug and play? Or is there a wire you gotta connect to get transmission temperature?

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      plug and play. there is already a sensor in the transmission and its carried on the same data bus up to the cluster

    You can wire an aftermarket radio into the cd changer slot. I did a write up on this that I can send you.
