Nice fixes. My top five when owning two 2006 Silverados were 1. Steering shaft bearing (fixes clunking under steering wheel) 2. Knock sensors 3. Service air bag front impact sensors 4. Lifters ticking ( used Lucas oil stabilizer worked for me) 5. Shocks
I have a '99 Silverado 4x4 that gets beaten on a daily basis. It now has 227,000 hard miles on it. The only problems I have had are the typical rusty rockers and cab corners, and of course the brake lines from living in the rust belt. I've replaced both window regulators at least twice. The door hinge bushings go bad every 3 years. The sun gear shell broke in the transmission (very common), then a month later the low reverse planetary exploded (probably my fault). I put a posi unit in it years ago, and haven't touched the rearend since, but I have replaced several bearing sets in other trucks. The transfer case has never been touched, nor the front differential. I replace the rear u-joint about once a year, and I have replaced both front hubs twice. I can't keep brakes on the truck, it likes to eat the rotors. One of the heater hose couplers broke while going down the road, that was fun. I bypassed the heater core and drove on. I've put 2 water pumps on it, and changed the sparkplugs 10 years ago, and replaced one fuel pressure regulator. Other than that, the engine has never been apart. I love my truck!
Your the man LT for some people this might not hold there attention but your channel has helped me a handful off times, I grew up loosing my dad at an early age and the power block/power nation and I learned so much.
Best mod I ever did on my 01 Silverado (aside from tighting the torsion arms to tighten up the front end) was to swap in PIAA bulbs in the high and low beams. Made a world of difference especially where I live well out in the deer-infested country.
My dad had the heater core replaced in his 04, and they forgot that little light sensor when putting it back together. So his lights were always on, day or night. I decided one day to fiddle with it and actually managed to fish it up into it's hole with a thin piece of wire, a small pair of needle nose pliers, and a pocket screwdriver. I hooked it with the wire, pulled it up into the hole, then carefully held it in place with the pliers while I used the screwdriver to twist it into the locked-in position. It took multiple attempts, and I probably should've just went in through the radio opening, but I got it.
Nice video. The little things like that don’t seem that important but they make the overall driving experience so much better. That 4.8 ltr needs some power upgrades and is a perfect candidate for boost.

Just went through this with my 08 GMC.... I pulled the interior out. Seats and all... front and back. Up at the fire wall I put wood to pull the plastic out and a blower fan had the foam dry in a hour (warm day). The wet padding soaked up to the firewall and made that foam like a sponge. The padding dried out (put it in the on the hot concrete driveway in the sun for a day). I cleaned out the inside of the truck and dried out. The doors open for a good 100 degree day. Need help. I have a 02 4.3 I have replaced the heater core I had to do it in my spare time now I have put it back together (after about 8 months) now my instrument cluster don’t work. Any suggestions?
I had an ‘03, replaced the brakes every 2 years, the drivers window motor (cable) twice and pass side once. ABS sensors / Wheel bearings every few years (always when I had no money) and the brake pedal always had too much travel since new. Other than that she was a good truck. I love my ‘12 much more except the Alternator went and A/C stopped blowing cold… at 50k miles…. Meanwhile my g/f’s ‘08 Rav 4 needs a new Alternator… at 280k miles, and the A/C still blows as cold as new!
I have a 2002 chevy 1500, gladly i'm only dealing with the ambient light sensor, as well as some exterior stuff. but its been driving me nuts that the headlights stay on all the time. I put LEDs in when i bought the truck in jan 2019, lights started stating on, in about feb of 2020. since then drls have only come on about 10 times, couldn't really find a solution or a cause really. The trick of pushing the dome light button to override doesn't work on mine, i think since its the Canadian version. I figured to pull the top of the dash, check power/ground and was going to replace the sensor anyway since i was there, this really helps. I have big hands so no going behind the radio, i have a JVC in there and its a tight fit, had to tap the holder in it was so tight, and i'm sure its not even clipped into the dash, just stays cause its so tight.
I use 303 tire protector on those rubber plugs, like the antennae plug seal. pops in and seals perfect . just another method to the madness. I own a 2004 xtndc 1 ton 8.1 silverado lt. Here in rainy BC Canada
I want to see an all motor big hp ls build that's done for the average guy... No turbo, no blower... Maybe a littttllleee spray (n20) for fun. But mostly going for all motor. Maybe a th400. Caltracs. Maybe some road racing flare mixed into the suspension
I enjoy all the content you put out for us to learn from. I have a 1999 chevy silverado single cab 2 wheel drive. I did the 4 hi mod and drl delete and the escalade antenna mod. Absolutely enjoy those mods. Keep the good content coming.
the 4-high mod is one of the best things on these trucks! i put LED headlights in and i can see people's souls, lol!!! My DRL delete was done by the truck itself by burning up the bulb sockets, lol!!!

If your cruise control only works with a trailer plugged in, check to see if your third brake light is burned out. Change it if needed, then check the cruise control again.
That light sensor is no fun to change out. Did 1 in my 2002 Tahoe. Small Hans and long arms would be a big help. Like your post cut up hands. Like I said a very similar experience.
Everytime I buy one of these trucks I always replace the 3rd brake light with an LED for the fright cargo light and the courtesy lights in the door panel it's less than 100 bucks and makes a huge difference every cab vent also always leaks on me too lol
Another annoying issue is the daytime running lights burning out. A lot of people switch to LED, but I did not like that look for DRL. If you use bulb 4114, the sockets will not melt from overheating. Many people use 3057 bulbs for the DRL which run too hot and cause socket melting and poor bulb life.
Good basic quality of drive (life?) improvements. Quick tip when dealing with those rubber grommets, use some undiluted dish soap concentrate (Dawn) to lubricate the end that your feeding through the metal or plastic cut out. Then twist back and forth while pushing and, eventually it will work its way through. Also, sometimes a smaller gauge stranded electrical (like 14 or 16 AWG) wire works better as a wire fish than string. Less prone to snagging or breaking.
I put rubber parts in a bucket with hot water for a few minutes to soften them up. Give them a quick wipe and they're much easier to install while they're flexible.
Dude! Sweet video. My 2000 GMC single cab stepside has the same problem with water in the rear corners. I'm in Colorado so not a huge problem as it's mostly dry here, but it's been bugging me forever!
Hey LT I have a 2018 Silverado 1500 4x4, I’m thinking about doing a dual position rear caliper conversion, I was wondering if you think using 2000 and up Tahoe/Avalanche/Suburban brakes (dual piston calipers and rotors) would it work?
The only thing on the video that I have fix is the brake light and the antena delete I have the truck since 09 and besides2 tranys and random reduce power has ben trouble free and my dash just ended like tortilla tostada but was easy replacement
My third brake like was leaking but it wasn’t from a bad seal somebody took it out and when they put it back in the metal clip to hold the screw wasn’t in the right spot and I fixed it no new seal needed
i disabled the auto lights in mines. My assigned parking spot meant my lights were aimed right into the 1st floor neighbors bedroom. Every morning going to work as soon as I started the truck it would light up their bedroom. Rude. So I disabled it. Also disabled the DRLs because it makes it look crosseyed when it's coming toward you. Ugly.
The two biggest pains in the ass I had to deal with on my truck, a 2001 sierra, was the blend door actuator on the driver side, and slow power windows. If you get any more free time on your hands, you should make a video on those two. I fumbled my way through replacing that actuator and finally found the right areas to lube the run channels.
@@mcgo0097 I did. I took the door panel off and used grease on the regulator cables. Worked it a few times and it’s still slow but much much faster than it used to be.
I had a 2002 Silverado WT 2WD with a five speed and 4.3 V6. I had the following failures: *Catalytic converters failed just before 60,000 miles and again at 150,000 miles *Intake manifold leak that let coolant into my oil at about 100K. *Front hubs replaced twice at around 70 and 140,000 miles. Front wheel bearings can't be serviced, and when they wear slightly the ABS triggers with no wheel slip on low speed stops. *All fuel and brake lines rusted. *Plastic filler neck wore out and caused a leak in the evap system. *Brake calipers replaced multiple times after the pistons seized in the bores. *Multiple plastic timing covers replaced to stop front main seal leaks; it never stayed fixed for long. *Noisy serpentine belt; switching from OEM to Goodyear Gatorback belts finally fixed it. *All radio lights and multiple dash lights blew out. The bulbs are soldered in and not easily replaceable. *The rear bumper rusted through. *The tailgate fell open because it wouldn't stay latched. Whenever I see one of these trucks with a ratchet strap or bungee on the tailgate I tell the owner how to fix it. Lubricating the pivot at the center of the latch cables fixes it. I finally got rid of it at 170,000 miles when the doors rusted out and the transmission started shifting hard. It wasn't worth it do do a clutch and transmission rebuild plus door shells.
Hey LT, what company did you use to manufacture the custom transfer case input shaft, on the awd GMT400 on Powernation? I've been searching everywhere online and I'm coming up dry.
A small mod lol Maybe white cool LED bulbs 6000k Low beams and high beams. Also wondering can get whole clear headlamps or whatever it’s called ? Same fog lights update that maybe. I know it small still look good.
Hi LT, love the content bro. Another question for you, 97 chevy 2500 with 5.7, engine cranks but is getting no fuel. Used your fuel pump video to replace that thinking it was the issue. Replaced fuel relay, ignition switch, fuel filter, fuel pump. Now it won't start at all. Thoughts?
You’ve verified lack of fuel pressure with a gauge? Looks like you’ve covered the bases, I’d also check with a volt meter to see if you’re getting power to the pump
Addressing these small things are what makes driving your vehicle more satisfying. Great video LT!

Good video somethings we all need to know ,I have a 96 gmc dually and the small stuff is starting to go out thanks for doing these videos .
What does the 2500hd torsion keys do for a 1500 truck ?
I had my 99 2500HD 4X4 23 or 24 years, and the auto head light sensor never failed. Still worked when I junked the truck.
can you do a double din nav upgrade?
Surprised the clunky steering shaft didn’t make the top 5. Drove me nuts on mine.
How do you fix that
@@zxJC34xz th-cam.com/video/eDVEm4JPp1s/w-d-xo.html could be this bearing, was on mine
I have a 02 Silverado 2 door 4x4 truck i still drive e day it was a 5.3 v8 in it is has all most 288000 on it ❤
Turbo street truck with intact AC, 6.0, 4L80e swap eventually
yeah, AC is one requirement that I need to keep on this one
Side note, what vise is that?? I need one of those! Im in a little vice part of life, ive got 3 in different sizes, but all normal rotating mount type... i would like one held down solid to my metal table as well
The only one of these mine has had is the ambient light sensor
Thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the bolt-on upgrades.
You and me both!
I love the plan's you have for the truck
I have an ‘02 GMC Sierra. The brake light and the ABS light comes on and off…. Got any advise for me ?
Its pretty easy....??? And then you see your hand all red and scratched up. Keep up the great work@!
Easy in theory, in real life it was a pain in the ass
My 99 4.8 Silverado has a rough cold start and revs high on start any idea?
I want to see an all motor big hp ls build that's done for the average guy... No turbo, no blower... Maybe a littttllleee spray (n20) for fun. But mostly going for all motor. Maybe a th400. Caltracs. Maybe some road racing flare mixed into the suspension
Build suggestion: A Full-size Syclone. Add AWD tc, manual trans, lower it a bit, and of course add Turbo. How sweet would that be? :)
I love this idea
A very nice exhaust system, intake, fuel upgrade budget build !
That's the plan!
Any suggestions on torsion bars my trucks tires are wearing funky from inside to outside on both sides to far in at the top out at the bottom
I seen the ford how dare you cheat on Chevrolet lol 😂
I enjoy all the content you put out for us to learn from. I have a 1999 chevy silverado single cab 2 wheel drive. I did the 4 hi mod and drl delete and the escalade antenna mod. Absolutely enjoy those mods. Keep the good content coming.
the 4-high mod is one of the best things on these trucks! i put LED headlights in and i can see people's souls, lol!!! My DRL delete was done by the truck itself by burning up the bulb sockets, lol!!!
@@mattcat231 wire the day time running lights to the blinkers and you might like the full front of the truck lit up. I'm about to put switch back lights in my blinkers so the front of my truck will be all white light until I turn the blinkers on
@@nothinstock83 i actually thought about doing double park/turn signals in there with another 3157 style socket, but what stopped me was if the wiring would hold up to the extra draw
@@mattcat231 I've had mine set up like that for 3 years now even put the led flasher relay and no sign of any issues like sockets burning or overheated wires
Thank you I now know why my headlights stay on on my suburbans and tahoe but my problem on my 2 suburbans is I have no turn signals or hazards the switch doesn't work
What size are the seat bolts?
If your cruise control only works with a trailer plugged in, check to see if your third brake light is burned out. Change it if needed, then check the cruise control again.
LT do or tell people how to do an LS swap like mainly from a 99 Suburban and drop in a 2002 LS
Great "how to" video - best of luck to ya 👍
As i have had 4 of them. Number 6 is window regulators
I’d love to see it lowered and install a Denali transfer case then hop up engine for an awd launching beast
Me too!
That’s exactly what I’m doing to my 2002 SCSB Silverado
I had to put a cover lay dashboard skin on my 2000 sliverado looks brand new
Hey LT I have a 2018 Silverado 1500 4x4, I’m thinking about doing a dual position rear caliper conversion, I was wondering if you think using 2000 and up Tahoe/Avalanche/Suburban brakes (dual piston calipers and rotors) would it work?
Not sure on the newer stuff rears, but I do know the 2019+ Silverado 1500 brakes are awesome, 4 piston I think
Kind of a crazy idea for the antenna cable grommet, using a fuel line disconnect tool to apply pressure on it to set the grommet?
That is a good idea in fact. I’m gonna try it
The only thing on the video that I have fix is the brake light and the antena delete I have the truck since 09 and besides2 tranys and random reduce power has ben trouble free and my dash just ended like tortilla tostada but was easy replacement
Hey Lawrence,
I have a 2004 GMC Sierra HD 6.0. I was wondering what you would suggest for mods
tons of options there, my vote is always for a turbo lol
My third brake like was leaking but it wasn’t from a bad seal somebody took it out and when they put it back in the metal clip to hold the screw wasn’t in the right spot and I fixed it no new seal needed
Good thing to check for!
i disabled the auto lights in mines.
@Pedro Mendoza we’re you able to fix the slow windows? Hate the speed they operate!
@@mcgo0097 I did. I took the door panel off and used grease on the regulator cables. Worked it a few times and it’s still slow but much much faster than it used to be.
Totally shocked to see the right parking light out. (Not.) I really do miss working on GMT800 trucks.
haha... yeah it needs a few bulbs up front
hell yes keep up the good content!! love these trucks!
The oil fill cap gets stuck and you have to replace the cap and the fill neck. ive seen it in both of the trucks ive owned past 200k miles
I've been searching everywhere online and I'm coming up dry.
made by Tim at Modern Muscle Salvage in Michigan
A small mod lol Maybe white cool LED bulbs 6000k Low beams and high beams. Also wondering can get whole clear headlamps or whatever it’s called ? Same fog lights update that maybe. I know it small still look good.
Replace the cab vents too, 3rd brake light seal
Let’s see the stepside with a remote mount turbo! It can be made reliable!
I do love boost...
Yep!
dont forget about the fuel gauge dying
I'm surprised the drl light that doesn't come on wasn't covered. You always see these trucks with 1 light working.
they only come on when you shift to drive, but you are correct, only one works.
Hey bubba, since there was water incursion, how do you treat any actual or potential oxidation in those cavities?
Most everything is covered in paint, so I wasn’t too worried about it as long as everything dries out.
@@LawrenceTolman
We have not verified the pressure but will and will check out the voltage. Thanks man, I will let you know how it goes
None of these ever broke on any I worked on. It was a whole list of other issues that were way more expensive and common
