I completely agree with the “Permatex” brand anti-seize on the aluminum body for adjustment but, the Torrington bearing will suffer less unless using a High Temp PTFE brake grease from ACDelco, simply because it is clear and not blue! The anti-seize compound has metals of copper, aluminum or zinc in high temp applications. For a bearing, just plain grease is best. Use wheel bearing grease if needed, the adjusting nut needs an anti-seize for galvanic action of dissimilar metals so it can be adjusted or serviced. DK. ASE Master Tech since 78, retired.

But also, you’re not robotic or trying to act like a movie star when you speaking. I feel like I’m hanging out with my brother again working on a car.
just a quick tip, you use a brass punch and hammer to tighten the lock ring up on coilovers. Spanners alone dont quite get it tight enough. Can vibrate loose after a while. That extra shock from hammering them help them to bite into the adjustment ring and lock it in place. Loving the build so far though. Been tossing around the idea of either SAS or coilover swap my 03 2500HD.

I did this same conversion on my lifted Tahoe about a year ago and it has been superb. The torsion bar suspension is antiquated and is a horrible ride over coil overs. Complete adjustability now and fine-tuning for all on and off-road conditions.

Viking coilovers are at the top of the game ! I build Big wheel drag cars and viking really gets that power to the ground and keeps that ride caddy smooth . Expensive, but worth every damn dollar. Just make sure you use anti seize or you'll bind up the plates !!
Great vid and great idea but I know gm trucks have issue holding alignment cause the cams. Check out dirt king fabrication alignment cams . The are heavy duty and Instead of a open slit for setting the dirt king cams are hole punched. So once it's set it stays. Jus a small upgrade but it helps .
Yeah I got the same coilovers but for a lifted truck and in all honesty it rides badass I love them I just need to get some for the rear and I’ll be all set
I did the Viking DA coilovers on the front of my Yukon from Richard too with drop spindles and 5" Belltech rear coils. My goal was to build a fullsize Trailblazer SS. I've got the suspension, brakes, and wheels sorted with a stock LQ9 swapped before I start making more power.
That's a trick upgrade. Gives the vehicle a nice stance. Seems chock-full of engineering compromises though. Particularly the upper mount where the two bolts that pass through the frame are literally right next to each other. This requires drilling two half-inch holes through the frame in close proximity. I would have liked to have seen much heavier weld-in mounts.
yes. agree with papi. I have a similar tahoe. would like to see how your take on a second battery would work. most importantly, how you would set it up.
The suburban and Tahoe’s are the same as the trucks. And some trucks came with diesels, and those had dual battery setup from the factory. The other battery spot is in the engine bay, passenger side by the hood hinge, at least my 04 Denali has it there. And I used a Tahoe to replace the front end. Same same.
I’ve had AFP/Richard’s setup on my 04 Silverado for almost 2 years now. Vikings with adjustable compression and rebound. Rides better than torsion bars for sure, but still not all the way happy with the trucks handling. If I did it again I would go the JB fabrication route.
@@redvette33 Components are undersized. I’ve done some mild off-roading(trails to remote camp sites) and destroyed several components. Top coil retainers sheared off the shock mount(welded them back). Heim joints developed play. One shock was internally damaged(c/r knobs stopped working). I have had issues after every camping trip I’ve been on. I can see where they suffice for driving on smooth roads, but still undersized if you hit a pothole etc IMO. JD fab utilizes much larger and stronger components that are adequate for these heavy trucks. These appear more suited for a smaller/lighter vehicle. Hope I could help.

Hey Matt do u know if something like this will work on a 08 Escalade with the adjustable height like u did on here bad ass work thanks for your time
Hey man, nice video and good looking truck. You’ve had them on a while, do you still love them? Would you change anything about them product? I’m thinking about changing to this but want something long term. Thanks.
AFP is awesome. I ordered a set of poly motor mounts from them a few years ago and they are top shelf quality.
You’re giving me ideas for my Tahoe man. 😆
Great video especially the product you have n the work your doing looking to get a Tahoe soon absolutely great video
HMMMMNNN... I would like to do this to my GMC, however, I think that the upper mount, I will drill the 1st hole a little larger and put a pipe bushing in so to insure the frame isnt crushed. I know you arent supposed to over tighten, more for piece of mind.
Awesome video, do you know if this set up would fit on my 2002 suburban?
Matt, could you tell what's the coilover kit part number shown on this video from Atomic Fabrication ?
Just got me an 05 Tahoe. It rides a little bit rough so I think I’m gonna have to do exactly this. Cool vid
Do you have the link where you can get the rear shocks
This was helpful I git a 05 z71 burban and this is EXACTLY what I'm trying to do, not too many videos at all on it....also have a 93 dodge ram hemi I want to do this too ND there are absolutely NO VIDEOS ON HOW TO let alone parts
did you get the rear coil overs from Atomic also?
New to the channel I’m sure I’ll be losing sleep watching your videos lol keep up the great work 🍻
considering doing this with an H2 so thanks for the info!
great work!
Can’t get over how good that front end looks!
nice videos thanks its very helpful what if you wanted to use kings or fox 2.5 shocks would it fit?
Got an 03 Tahoe I'm working on for my off road build
How about some part #s and some more info for us bro I have a 2009 Escalade 2wd fbo cam e85 with a 2/3 drop and squats really hard would be nice if u could share some of that shock info with us…
Hey was this lifted prior to installing the atomic fab torsion key delete kit? It sits kind of high a nice height
@lsxmatt what length rear shocks did you go with and what size washers did you use for your install?
Really great video! I appreciate you doing such a detailed review and glad you like it!
Is there no kits for 2500s?
Hey will this kit work for a 2wd?
@@deathbyrebuilds2380 If you have torsion bars, yes
@@atomic178 thanks man will definitely be getting this kit in the future
nice kit i bought the JD fab mid travel kit we'll see how it goes...
Those upper arms are worth it paired with a coilover
Especially with the king coilovers
Matt this may sounds like a stupid question. But is it possible to put these in and also keep the Tortion bars?
So is the suspension from a 2wd suburbaan the same as a 4wd suburban
I love watching this project. I'm also restoring my 02 Z71 tahoe and your videos are a great resource. I'm looking at doing this conversion too. Are the viking shocks 2.0 or 2.5s (inch diameter shock body)? Thanks!
Great video!
Would you say these coilovers are okay for an off road application? Or is it strictly for daily driving/track use? Thanks in advance.
Take out what works fine and put in aftermarket rough rider.
@@Watchout1010 That doesn’t really answer my question, but thanks.
I didn't catch to price of this unit.Do they make a 1 ton 2000 chevy version ?
Dude it’s funny because I think about monster garage all the time when I’m working on stuff. Monster garage was my show growing up. Definitely a big fan of Jesse James.
Its back
Used to watch Jesse James too, I am 58 years old and can tell you- Jesse is the fuckin man!!!
I've been looking at viking for months.. I'm sold on that soft ride. I have no use for firm high payload ride in my 16 single cab, I want the old school float! Thanks for the great video.
Where did you get the upper control arms? I went to Freedom Off-road’s website and couldn’t find them
Great video man, especially the one where you can see the underside of the Tahoe. Did you use a go pro for that shot?
Thanks, I used a gopro with a magnetic mount.
First time you've come across my suggested videos. Subscribed.
How do you like those upper control arms planning on purchasing would like real world use opinion on it
I’m doing coils in front. I wanna drop the truck like 2 in and upgrade the suspension. I don’t mind stiffening the ride a bit. Y’all think this is the way to go? Their kit looks amazing and high quality from what I’ve seen
No Torque Wrench or Specs?
How is that front end holding up? Iv been told never to delete torsion bars unless you add heave duty shock tower mounts, supposedly, the stock mounts will eventually bend and break from the weight of the truck all on the mounts
They’re good. The coil-over doesn’t rely on the shock mount, it has its own bracket that bolts to the frame.
Im about to buy an 04 tahoe Lt 2wd im excited to start creating iv been benge watching your videos creating new dreams you do a great job thank ya matt
Hi Matt, my name is Ernest. Love your content, keep it up! I have a 07 suburban ltz on a 6ish rough country lift still with tortion bars. I can't find any info for the tortion delete kit you used on the tahoe. Also do you keep the lowers? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks brotha!
Hey Matt Great videos Are you going to upgrade to the 2019+ GM truck front brake setup ? I already purchased all the parts to do the 2019 front brake conversion for my 2003 suburban. I live in Staten Island also and if you want to check out the parts before I install them let me know. I did a few mods to the suburban as well .
Sounds interesting bro what's the info on that upgrade?
@@lowz7188 Front calipers, rotors and pads from a 2019 up Tahoe. I believe the rotors are 13.5 inches. There a few TH-cam video on the swap. Requires washers to center the caliper to the rotor. Depending on your rims you may need to run a wheel spacer. Brake lines are a direct bolt on.
Killer video! I have an 04 Tahoe as well with a torsion key lift. Would it be beneficial to get longer sway bar end links? I’ve heard to keep the sway bars level for better handling. Figured you’re the expert to ask!
Love this content!! Great videos👍🏼
Hoping your first hand experience also owning a 00-06 Z71 Tahoe + also using atomic fabs coilover conversion bracket kit can help me get this right the 1st time!
What coilspring lbs rate did you end up with? 650 700 & 750lbs have all been suggested to me?
Plan to order the same line of Vikings front coilover shocks you did 19” is there longest option
I have 21&3/4” from bolt to bolt sitting level.
Think that’s cutting it close on up or down travel limits?
02 Z71 6”susp lift I’ bought new in 02 only 107k I’ve done lots of $ in upgrades over the yrs & more to come especially after funding this channel live it!!!
Nice vid. Wondering if this would work on my Tahoe. I’m lifted 6 inches on the suspension and 3 inch on the body? Also I couldn’t understand what you said last about 2 wheel drive vs 4 wheel drive
I think the afp kit tops out at a 6 inch lift. I could be wrong but that’s what I’ve read in the past
I would leave the front and rear bumpers black and paint the flared part of the fenders and the raised lower part of the body black to match for a nice 2-tone look. Black really looks good with that light metallic paint.
