  • Its time for a update about whats being going on over the last year and why we've not been posting as much as we have done previously. I went for a solo hike to Meall Chuaich, a Munro with just over 600m of ascent, which would normally make for a very easy day, if it wasn't for the almost 10km walk in and walk back just to get to the bottom of it!

It was only 2 weeks ago that I was up, managed to get sun burn on the way back off sadly. You’re definitely right in that the mountains will always be. They are a fantastic for getting away from it all.

Absolutely amazing video mate. Glad to see you back up the mountains. Thanks for sharing your story. That's what I love about hillwalking. It's the best medicine for mental health. Hope you can make it to 70 before the end of the year. If not its still good to get out.

I'm sorry to hear you were having such a tough time, Alistair, but it sounds like things are hopefully moving in the right direction now. Hopefully getting back out into the hills will also help. Take care.

Hi Alistair. Great to see you back on the munros. Well done for sharing your story and I'm so glad you are back on track. The main thing is to be happy in yourself and at home. I'm a cyber security consultant by trade. Getting onto the hills lets me escape the IT world and refresh my batteries. There is no other medicine like it. Thanks for sharing. All the best. David.

Thanks David. I would totally agree about being happy at home. I definitely feel I’ve made the right decision so far.
I investigated cybercrime for 5 years and now totally appreciate getting away from all that is best for my own mental health.

Your videos are well put together and a joy to watch. Thanks also for sharing your personal story. I was in a job I found difficult around 20 years ago, it was due to difficult personalities rather than the work. Luckily I moved job and ended up working with some great people and enjoying work again. Not enjoying (or tolerating) your work can be mentally draining. Glad things are now better for you. Cheers

Thanks Mark. I enjoyed my job for so long but made choices I thought were best to progress my career only to end up hating it. Good to hear you’re somewhere that you enjoy too 😁

I totally understand how your job can have a huge effect on your health.
I've been a prison officer for the last 14 years and it can be very demanding both mentally and physically, and regardless you always take those effects home with you. I've seen the negative impacts it can have on people but life is too short to spend 40+ hours a week unhappy. You need to do what's best for you and the people around you.
Love the videos and I hope you are enjoying the new job 👍

I can’t imagine how difficult your job can be. We definitely take things home regardless of how much you try not to. I’m really glad I’ve got something I enjoy, and something that when I go home I don’t worry about it.
