      I used to get the two confused as well. In a deadlift (which is indeed shown in the video), you are pulling the weight off the ground by straightening your posterior chain. In a squat, you are pushing the weight upwards using your legs. Hope this helps.

    Maybe I am being overly critical and I will gladly delete this but after all great info you still appear to do a squat/deadlift versus a deadlift.

      @@gaga088 I am a trainer for 16 years with a degree in physical therapy on top of a bunch certs and StrongFirst too. I just didn't want to be a troll or rude. The deadlift should be totally hip dominant from a full hinge with soft knees and little to no knee action until snapping lockout at top.

    • @Garvielok
      @Garvielok 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Hands36 I don't know much about kettlebell training (hence me looking at this video) but as a powerlifter what she is doing seems fine? Her feet are further apart bringing her almost into sumo territory which automatically makes the exercise a bit more leg dominant. She isn't squatting any more than a lot of deadlifters i know at least.

      You want to be able to perform a reasonable number of reps, depending on your goals. Common targets are 15, 12, 10, and 8. Start small and do a set. If it feels easy, go up 2Kg.
      There's no prize for "going big" when you're beginning. Plan to come back after two or three days of recovery and try again. If you overdo it, you aren't going to be recovered and ready to go again. Whereas if you err on the side of caution, you can always go up next time!

      Use a weight that you can do about 12 reps with, and aim to be pretty tired by the last couple of reps. That weight will be good for growing the muscle. As you keep doing this that weight will get easier, so make sure you keep increasing the weight when you feel like 12 reps is easy!

      The movement is consistent with the standard dead lift. Starting with the knees bent and the hip hinged, she initiates the movements extending the knees which opens the knee angle, then opens the hip angle as the KB passes the knees. Chest remains over the KB during the first phase, then becomes more vertical as the hip angle opens until she is upright.
