My first serious camera was a Bridge Camera fairly much like this one. It had a 24-1000mm FX equivalent zoom.
I actually disagree with the notion that these cameras have little purpose. Sure, I don't ever use it anymore now, (currently have a Nikon D7500 with 3 lenses), but I've never regretted starting out with the Fujifilm bridge cam (I think it was HS50 EXR).
As a starting photographer it allowed me to test out basically every aspect of capturing images that I wanted, so that I could figure out what had my interest most. Did I prefer shooting wide shots, or more zoomed in, for portraits, maybe tele photos would be my thing, for birds etc. And indeed, many pictures of the moon, and also of Jupiter and Saturn, and the Sun (with proper filter). It allowed me to test the water for astrophotography, by now I have a pretty good telescope for that, but many of the techniques I first applied with that bridge camera, I can still apply with the telescope.
Having full control over ISO, shutter time, and aperature, I learned the basics photography. I started out on automatic mode, then switched to the scene modes, and by the end of me using it, I only shot in manual mode anymore. I got to try out infrared photography (bought an infra red filter), I tried out long exposures at day time (10 stop ND filter), tried out a polarizer (filter obviously). The camera could also film, also in high speed. Had fun with that.
Sure, the image quality was poor, ISO above 200 was kind of unusable. But it sure was a versitile little thing. (Oh, I made sure to have manual zoom and a focus ring on it, cause I wanted to work with that).
So, in short, it was the bridge for me from point-and-shoot, to proper photography.

      @VladimirHidalgo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I started out with a Nikon B700 bridge camera and it allow me to test basically all existing focal lens except ultra wide or fish eye, also this camera taught me why I needed a faster aperture lens as well so many other things. Besides taking incredible shots in daylight I think bridge cameras are exceptional beginner cameras before moving to DSLR/Mirrorless

    • @okaro6595

Well I still use such a camera. It has far more reach then with my longest lens while technicality is shorter 180 mm vs. 200 mm. However, it is more reasonable at 500 grams instead of this 1.4 kg monster.

I bought a P900 to prove the world was round but the screen broke and the viewfinder filled with mist because I carried it up the Brecon Beacons and the moisture got in it.
It is great for London if you like architecture and hidden things.

My father has a Nikon P-something with a crazy zoom that makes the moon fill the frame. (not 1000 but older and lesser quality). I have a small M4/3 with a prime lens. If I take a good photo with my prime and crop it, I can get the same result, maybe even better.
But I would need to hold the camera against something to keep it stable.

      What you're saying is essentially...
(1): We can reasonably assume that the moon and earth are the same shape.
(2): The moon is a globe.
(C): Therefore, earth is a globe.
What you're not recognizing is that tho many flat-earthers affirm the minor premise (2), they do not affirm the 'major premise' (1).
Their syllogism looks something like this:
      (1) The U.S. didn't actually land on the moon.
      (2) If 'they' lie about one thing, they lie about everything.
      (3) 'They' say earth is a globe.
(C): Therefore, earth is not a globe.
I'd say the issue with their argument is "2." I say that because...
      - I do not believe the earth is flat.
      _and_
      - I do not think the Apollo 1 astronauts set foot on the moon.

With the 1.5(or 1.6) times crop and a tele converter you can get really far too and that without a loss of quality because your sensor is still larger than any bridge camera's sensor that I know. We had the P900 with a similar massive zoom for Safari in Tansania. My wife had the Nikon, I had a Canon 6D with a 100-400F4.5-5.6. The issue was the motor driven zoom and the autofocus that could not be pointed precisely on what you wanted in focus. I took amazing pictures, so did my wife - using her iPhone. Since then the P900 has never once been used.

Garbage 200mm is nothing. 800mm (PL 100-400mm) equivalent has served me well in the 28 games of Aussie Rules football this year I’ve shot. Nice shots of play on the other side of the ground. My wife got some great shots on the other side of the track of Usain Bolt with my P900. No larger sensor camera could have got those shots that clear without a lens worth $10000 or more. I just wouldn’t use it in poor light.

That's kind of the point of a bridge camera. Range for cheap.
That being said, when those $10,000+ lenses on the larger cameras are an option, they produce results that curbstomp a bridge camera, then throw it into a wood chipper. There's (generally) a reason those lenses and the accompanying bodies cost so much. *But there certainly is still a place for a bridge camera.
