If the gas looks that bad, you may as well drain the oil and any other fluids and change them also. I had a 1980 Honda CB 900 Custom that sat for 3 years while I was in prison. I had to take the carbs off and soak them for a week in carb cleaner. It never did run the same, but it still ran pretty good. I now have a GL 1500 Goldwing, my dad has an '05 Bonneville T-100. I try to start them both at least once a week over the winter, plus we use Stabil.
So, i have a Royal Enfield Bullet that is also stored outside under a tarp'. We've just had the wettest winter on record here in the UK and the bike will not run for more than a couple of seconds with t5he choke on, then dies. The petrol smells a bit stale and the symptom would suggest to me either petrol starvation or water in the petrol. Just done draining the old stuff off and cleaning the carb. Hopefully the new petrol will make all the difference, otherwise I'm gonna be checking the float height again. Old petrol and Enfields really do hate each other!
no no no, FORTUNATELY water IS NOT flammable. Forget that chap's bike, what about the planet....let's all take a moment today to thank the good universe that water in its usual state IS NOT flammable.
Thanks man! I think that’s the culprit to my problem. Fucking gas has been in my tank for 2 years plus! I hope the carburetor isn’t damaged for good because of the moisture. I’ve been starting the bike and raving it but now it doesn’t want to turn on. It turns, and it sound like it’s almost about to turn completely over and start running the engine but it doesn’t.
Does gas go bad overtime or just gets some water in it? If it's just water, instead of draining out gas, can't water removal additives be added to gas?
I got a 90 Sportster with a vacuum petcock and VERY BAD gas, however the engine/carb was run out clean, before the accident 4 years ago. I hate to dis-assemble, invert, reassemble and//or buy or steal a vacuum pump? Any ideas? A thought was to apply GENTLE pressure though the top and it might go out the vacuum petcock but... $$$$$ if you can find one if it ruptures? If anybody did it, lemme know ? Dealers here said 2 plus hoses...
Someone please help me! My motorcycle sat for two years! How can I clean out the bad gas if the engine won’t turn on? It sounds like it wants to turn on but won’t! Please help me!
@@Qfly9 turn your fuel switch to off, find the fuel line that runs from the gas tank to the carburetor and unhook the end that attaches to the carb. Have a container ready. Put the end of the hose in the container and turn the fuel switch to on or res, whichever flows more. Take off gas tank cap to make flow faster. There will be a drain screw and/or hose at the bottom of your carb too, open the screw and catch the gas from the carb in container. You're all drained at this point, tighten your drain screw, hook your fuel line back up and add some fresh 93 gas. You may want to do a good carb cleaning and get a new plug too, after that you should be good to go

What if it’s an efi bonneville?
The first step with one of those is to get it to the dump, they'll take care of the rest.
