    Seems like half the time older models like the 60's all the way up to 80's and early 90's of vehicles are reliable, cheap, and more simple. Now you have these complicated monsters.

    • @wholeNwon
      @wholeNwon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Thanks, but I’ll stick to my ‘01 Toyota Camry LE with 311,420 miles that runs like a Swiss clock, with original engine and automatic transmission and everything works!! Blows cold AC when I need it and heat when I need it. I repainted it, and tinted the windows and looks brand new. Inside is in excellent condition, has power everything including a manufacture sunroof!! I Do most of the maintenance myself and the complex stuff I take to a trusted mechanic. I’ve had it for the past 12 years and plan on keeping it another 12.

      @GlamStacheessnostalgialounge 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I still consider buying early 80s cars. Firstly they're reliable, secondly they're pretty easy to find, a lot of people who bought them brand new and kept maintaining them are getting too old to drive so they decide to sell them. That's how I ended up with a Yugo....yes, a Yugo, and I had no problems with it for 4 years. Did I mention it's a Yugo?

    Great video. Scotty always has good stuff, and fun to watch too!
    He did forget to mention one of the oldest test in the book. The pop bottle test. Works good if you don’t have a fuel pressure gauge or access to the Schrader valve.
    Disconnect power to coils/spark plugs. Disconnect fuel line, use a piece of hose to direct it into a pop bottle. Crank it over for a few seconds. Should get about 4-8 oz of fuel. Works best on older mechanical style fuel pumps, but can give you an idea on electronic fuel pumps.

    Many times a defective in-tank fuel pump can be replaced without removing it, by adding an external fuel pump. They are cheap and easy to install. If it can suck fuel through the dead pump, it will work.

    You are my goto guy, I had hard starting with 3.4l chevy and by your vids I came up with replacing the MAP sensor for $85 because simptoms matched the best. But still had to hold pedal down an inch to get started hot or cold with rich gas fumes/smoke when it finally started out the exaust pipe. So botom line it wasnt the problem, however evey othe car guy had a vid on the Fuel Pressure Regulator that matched my problem exact as when you removed the vacuum line to the Fuel Pressure Regulator gas would sputter out where the vacuume line was, mine sputterd the gas too, problem solved for the additional cost of $52 for the new Fuel Pressure Regulator. Please do a vid on this problem. Thank you for your videos, keep up the good work.

      +PuppetMaster Lol you have it made my man!
      For one, your water pump was due for replacement anyway (at 90k miles actually). And if it was previously replaced, I'd be willing to bet it wasn't replaced with an OEM pump. Second, it sounds like either you need to grease your hood a little bit. Did you have an accident? Many times an accident will warp the metal around the hood and trunk, making it difficult to open or close (even tiny fender benders). All the Celica owners I've known don't have issues with their trunk (including my mom and aunt back in the 90s).
      I've had to work on many of my family member's cars, and no surprise Toyota is definetely superior in the eyes of many based on first hand experience. And don't assume that the number of recalls is a clear indication of bad quality. American car brands don't issue recalls for many of their vehicles because they have to pay to fix it. Taking responsibility is better than laughing all the way to the bank as your customer is having their fairly brand new car in the shop getting fixed at their own expense.

    In an emergency you can also use an implement to push on the valve stem of the pressure port to see if there's pressure but beware it can also squirt fuel out at high pressures too. But it can tell you if there's no pressure.

    • @joshn938
      @joshn938 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Yewon2001 Your problem is not that you bought used, but that you bought a used Audi. Audis are hit and miss for reliability, it really depends on how well they are kept up. Evidently, you got a Miss. Not only that, Audis are ridiculously expensive to maintain. When buying used, always stick to GM or Toyota if you can.

    Jaguar is one of the biggest POS cars you can own....A relative of mine use to own one and only had it for a year before he sold it. The oil changes alone cost around $95-100! And I should mention he is a doctor making plenty of $ so cost wise it wasn't even a problem for him. He just didn't want to keep paying rip off prices for anything that needed fixing/changing on the car.

      5 Quarts of Synthetic oil (Mobil 1) at Wal-Mart - $25. This is the recommended oil for Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW, so it's good enough for an old Jaguar. A Purolator oil filter is $3.50 at Wal-Mart as well, so for less than 30 dollars you can go to Wal-Mart and change the oil in a Jaguar. There is zero reason you should pay the dealership to do this oil change. A jiffy lube charges 20-30 bucks as well. I'm pretty sure that saying your relative makes poor decisions on where to spend his money doesn't make a Jaguar a POS.

    • @mclaine33
      @mclaine33 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was a doctor... not a car mechanic. He didn't know much about cars and would never change his own oil. So yeah maybe he did make a poor choice buying a Jag but overall he told me the car wasn't anything special.

    • @mclaine33
      @mclaine33 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      complex2034 Again no reason why you should go spend $100+ to change the oil at the dealership especially for a Golf... that ain't no exotic car. It's a fun car to drive but you shouldn't rip yourself off at the dealership.

    All the "luxury" brands are not worth it. Lexus, Acura, Cadillac, Infinity, etc. have comparable cheaper counterparts.

    • @chownful
      @chownful 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Care to provide some examples? There are usually significant tradeoffs. i.e. cheap interior, lower performance, parts wear out faster, etc. For example, I much prefer the Lexus ES300 (2nd generation) to its "comparable cheaper counterpart" which would be the Toyota Camry of a similar year. Unfortunately the Toyota Camry has a much cheaper interior, more road noise, and on top of that it really isn't that much cheaper than a Lexus ES300.
      If you do your research on reliable used luxury cars that have been out for at least 3 years then you can sometimes be okay.

    • @craze1701
      @craze1701 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2
