I’m just going to say that Chariii is probably going to do the rest of the Paper Mario series, and I’m excited for Super Paper Mario and Origami King. And the Amy voice is back. It was originally Amy’s so it’s what I’m calling it.
I may be wrong, but if I recall, it's originally the Aika voice for Skies of Arcadia. He cohosted a stream with one of his friends when they played the game a few years back, they came up with the voice for the character, and it's been used in most of the dubs since. He even used it in the DDLC Streams and EWW if I recall. And more famously, as many notice, it's the voice for Amy in the Sonic Dubs/EWWs. Definitely one of my favorite little running gags of the channel.

As much as I love the voice acting and the hilarious sins, I really would have preferred to watch the original art style of the game. That's just because I really liked the way things looked before, plus the VERY obvious sprite changes just really bother me.
Same here, it was especially bothersome to me when the Koopa Bros. first appear. The constant sprite changing was pretty jarring. Luckily, I'm pretty sure TTYD has a pretty stable texture pack.
Eh; I mean, I love seeing what all the partners & star sprites look like in the TTYD style, but otherwise, its just sort of... well, eh, yknow? It does honestly feel more fitting somehow for this video, though; it gives off that... painfully hilariously wonky vibe that every EWW video has.

About the graphics...why is it that the stars have no mouth in some of these cutscenes? They never were missing on the original version of the game. The HD graphics on the characters really do not compliment the background.
As much I love this video; the sprites were REALLY jarring especially when they swap between the old ones + the news and I also didn't like how the star spirits + Twinkle look like as I feel like it makes look plain and expressionless with their mouth gone.
Yeah i agree. I personally didn't like the yoshi designs. I atleast liked the toad designs but hopefully on future updates of the mod It'll improve more

48:26 Honestly, I think this is one of the things TTYD has over the orginal PM. There, the partners are given a lot more character and usually they all stay fairly relevant even after their chapters. One of my favorite examples is Vivian who...weirdly, now that I think about it reminds me a little of Tubba? Only Mario helps her instead because the other shadow sirens aren't holding a maguffin hostage but, regardless-there you really get a feel for what kind of person she is. You see her in a lot of cutscenes with the shadow sirens early on, you can tell she gets bullied by her supposed 'family' and eventually, you get the chance to help her, where she then returns the favor to you and sticks around as a partner even AFTER realizing this means she'd have to fight against her former family. And one of the most interesting things about her, to me, is that at the end of TTYD, it's implied that Beldam and the Shadow Queen have a history with eachother, and the Queens true form even slightly resembles them. I interpret this as that the shadow sirens may have actually been *created* in her image as servants, orchestrating things to go her way. Unlike Beldam though, who follows her without question and is mostly rotten to the core, Vivian is really sweet and caring to others, despite being made by a LITERAL avatar of evil and darkness, almost like the Queen made a mistake when making her or, maybe there was something that happened to Vivian to suddenly make her change or, maybe there was something special about her being able to resist the influence of the Queen so potently as to hardly have a bad bone in her body. Meaning that when she sides with Mario, she's fighting against everything she was meant to be and, in the end, fighting against her own creator. It's really cool to think about. And Vivian's not the only one either! Granted, not every character is given similar depth or, maybe I'm just too biased for certain characters to notice, but most of them are given clear personalities and goals to achieve and it's really interesting to see them all come together under the same cause. I just wish we could've seen them bounce off eachother a bit more. Like, imagine if randomly the partners could just have little optional cutscenes you could view where they talk to eachother and you get to learn more about them and see their personalities bounce off eachother. Actually, you don't even need to imagine. There's a game series already out there that practically came up with this concept. And it's known as the 'Tales of' series. Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss, those games. ..Yeah I just compared Paper Mario to Tales, what of it? Your hearts know the truth.

Woah, the texture mod you're using in your [TOTALLY LEGITIMATE N64 MACHINE] is really cool! I never saw it before, and it looks great! It'll be an interesting experience to see it this way when I'm used to the relatively scuffed normal graphics.
Fun video! Though I feel like you missed at least some stuff; Like how the Pirhana Plants act like guards/scouts, since they go on alert & leave, seemingly to report to someone when Mario approaches the Lava Pirhana's lair. Also, I feel like there'd be a lot more sin-worthy information in the tattles! Thanks for uploading!
Really great video! I really loved the Paper Mario series (until it went downhill) and watching this with your voice acting and commentary was awesome. While yes the HD textures were a bit distracting, I didn't really mind all that much.
The first Paper Mario is my favorite game of all time, but I have to fully agree with what you said about the partners in shiver mountain and it's something I never realized until I saw this video. I think the reason each partner has so little character is that there is so many and you get one for every chapter. I think the reason this was done was to keep the battles and puzzles more fresh, the level designers have a lot to play with when designing puzzles and the player can experiment with a lot of different strategies in battle. Personally, I think that was a smart move, this game doesn't have a ton of deep story, or at least deep enough stories to where I would sacrifice gameplay for focusing on story elements more. It is a shame because I think Sushi and Lakilester would have made for really great characters had they been fleshed out more.
Re 35:12 "what does Bowser do all day after he's won" - yea, of course he's gonna go around the castle trying to look for something to do to have fun. Haven't you seen the movie Megamind?

I've never really pegged this game as "dark", even after hearing your statements about Chapter 7. Your long sin on the partners was interesting to hear. Great to see you tackling these games, dude.
It's the first Paper Mario, which was originally another cross-development between Nintendo and Square Enix as a sequel to Super Mario RPG. Although within a year of starting development they broke off and went back to doing their own thing so Nintendo wasn't able to use the SM RPG ip. so they continued with this new dimensional mesh artstyle for the new gen consoles and relabeled as Paper Mario. Bowser's comment about sequel is likely just a reference to the fact that this is the same world as RPG but without characters created or inspired by Square Enix.

You probably didn't know this (because if you did, you would have sinned it) but cooking Dried Shrooms after giving Tayce T the cookbook nets you fried shrooms instead of mistakes. Which is great, but the game gives ZERO INDICATION of this fact! And by the time you have the cookbook, you can buy Mysteries, which cost half as much and can be cooked into something that, half the time, is better than a mistake. So nobody would think to cook dried shrooms after gaining access to mysteries, let alone after gaining access to the cookbook. That Toad girl who wants to be a chef like Tayce T could have mentioned that Tayce T got better at cooking dried shrooms after Mario gave her the cookbook.

@@csargent31 the version of the mod seen here is quite out dated, the current version fixes most of these issues.

The first Paper Mario is my favorite game of all time, but I have to fully agree with what you said about the partners in shiver mountain and it's something I never realized until I saw this video. I think the reason each partner has so little character is that there is so many and you get one for every chapter. I think the reason this was done was to keep the battles and puzzles more fresh, the level designers have a lot to play with when designing puzzles and the player can experiment with a lot of different strategies in battle. Personally, I think that was a smart move, this game doesn't have a ton of deep story, or at least deep enough stories to where I would sacrifice gameplay for focusing on story elements more. It is a shame because I think Sushi and Lakilester would have made for really great characters had they been fleshed out more.

'Cause it was originally going to be called Super Mario RPG 2
It's the first Paper Mario, which was originally another cross-development between Nintendo and Square Enix as a sequel to Super Mario RPG.
Although within a year of starting development they broke off and went back to doing their own thing so Nintendo wasn't able to use the SM RPG ip.
so they continued with this new dimensional mesh artstyle for the new gen consoles and relabeled as Paper Mario.
Bowser's comment about sequel is likely just a reference to the fact that this is the same world as RPG but without characters created or inspired by Square Enix.

You probably didn't know this (because if you did, you would have sinned it) but cooking Dried Shrooms after giving Tayce T the cookbook nets you fried shrooms instead of mistakes. Which is great, but the game gives ZERO INDICATION of this fact! And by the time you have the cookbook, you can buy Mysteries, which cost half as much and can be cooked into something that, half the time, is better than a mistake. So nobody would think to cook dried shrooms after gaining access to mysteries, let alone after gaining access to the cookbook. That Toad girl who wants to be a chef like Tayce T could have mentioned that Tayce T got better at cooking dried shrooms after Mario gave her the cookbook.
