Sanding body filler is a tedious process. Here are some tips, tools and techniques that help get the job done - efficiently and effectively 🔥www.hiltzautoc... #BADCHAD #HILTZAUTOCO
You have gone into so much detail building and filming these cars i feel like i am part of the build. I could if i wanted to go out and build one myself after watching all these videos
And from a small town in nova Scotia hes a cool cat ,:I built a car.from scratch by feel once and he reminds me so much of my buddy and my self we are from p.e.i ,so it's cool to see someone with similar building skills as my self ,its not saw every day
I've done a lot of this work, never as a profession though. I like that everything you show is unedited. People watch all these TV shows where one minute the car's bare metal, the next it's primered, and then ta-da! It's finished! Most don't realize how many man hours are actually involved. Keep up the good work!
Jeff from Jersey here! I don't work on cars but I love watching your show. This is a continuation of your site when it's not in the air. I've passed on some of your tidbits on life to others. Keep up the great work!
Got it ! ... 40 / 80 ...... it looks like that 40 year old g10 daihatsu sitting in the garage is going to get a make over now an put back on the road. Our state govt in Qld Oz has changed rego regs for vintage cars to be more easily shown on the road. Rego ~$80 / year with limited number of days on the road (log book anyone) and membership of car club. Way to go for sure re our motoring history made more visible. Thanks to you both for the good oil and enthusiasm it will happen at my place.
Chad when doing fenders next to rivet crown. I would use a hand block...not a small squeegee but block rubber ends open to slide in paper....Just way I was taught 55 years ago.. BTW at Chevrolet the Forman asked if I knew what red putty was I said yes he said go get the tube in the store room...I got it he said been here 20 years it will be here for 20 more...we never used red putty to fill scratches or pinholes.
Chad when you do vids like this it's some of the best material to me, someone who learns best hands on, its like being in shop with you, never change my dude👍
These videos are great of you working!! Glad you have free reign with social media and are not locked to your TV show only!! Your hard work shows others what it takes to do this work and it's not easy!! Patience Patience Patience and a sense of humor helps also!! Big Fan from Connecticut!!
Thank you for another free lesson. I know you will fix it when you get to it, but that hump in the spine on the roof about 10" back from the windshield sticks out to me every time I can see that part of the car. Fender skirt gap is gonna really make it all come together once you are able to cut em loose, Might just be the coolest fender skirts out there. Love It.
Getting IT! Getting iT ! This is a great way to show clients what is involved. It's a LOT, of thankless work ! It's only a great sense of pride, at the end of the day, it's DETERMINation !
Its friday. Watchin live in the south of England in ilfracombe, would love to hear chad saying ilfracombe England one friday. Love your ethos chad, great work
Looking at that big place to put wheels I was thinking the bigger the better as then it gives more clearance for that big motor so I think that the big cars of old days had 21x7 but not positive.as memory goes in old age, but then that might mean purchase. Hey just bit off topic I never see the green goblin anywhere unless it’s specific video on it. This car has quite a following I think mainly due to your workmanship, as not very many people would ever put that much challenge on them selves.your doing a fine job I often wish the distance wasn’t so great as I’d like to be thereto help as well as learn. Now I’m almost changing my mind on the colour ( you’ve never yet mentioned you preference ) but I have seen some colour changing paint jobs of which they calling hyper. But it would also look fantastic in dark brown. I don’t see very many in brown it’s usually black or green or two tone. Two tone more rolls Royce but I’ve seen some Bugatti two tone ( I like single colour best tho) real tiny gold fleck dark brown is just standing way out in my mind and can picture that very easily.
Hay my man its like a good haircut its not how much you cut off its how much you leave on that counts Jolene sure does a great job of filming hat off to both pros
I love the tongue comment, lol, my dad used to say that if it isn’t working maybe your holding your tongue wrong! Move it to the other side and see if that works better! Lol. I have a question for you Chad. I have done a lot of bodywork in my years, nothing pro but doing the work to fix up a car was the only way I could afford to buy that car at the time. I always had the problem of the filler showing through the finished paint, even though it was not showing through the primer. I would make the repair, fill it, sand it, prime it, touch up any low spots, put on multiple coats of primer, sand it again, and when there was nothing left showing I would paint it. If it was a black or other dark colours it would come out looking ok, but the filler would show up in lighter colours as if it was on the surface! It is like the filler was absorbing everything! What is your opinion on the reason? I’m presently working on rebuilding a 69 Camaro and trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong before I get to the filler stage. I’m painting it with a candy yellow on top with a red and orange candy stripes on the sides and black bottom, and I’m concerned that those light colours will drastically show those points. After watching your work on this car, I’m thinking of doing filler over the entire car rather than just the repair points and maybe eliminate that risk.
I've been slowly buying the materials but I was thinking about candy apple red on top of black then two coats of clear one coat of metallic clear then an additional coat of clear
How do you clean your shop after bodywork? Just wondering what you do as I notice it looks clean after some of these phases of the process. Nice work by the way!
I would call that a car out of the can Ideally you don't want to finger sand but when you've done collision and bodywork and mud work for so long that you can actually sand with the palm of your hand and your fingers to get into tight corners but when prepping and sanding for paint you do not wanna use your fingers chad knows this he's a professional
I think some round rod would look nice on top of headlight buckets. Give it some shape instead of looking like a paint can on its side. Great job so far chad
MR .BAD CHAD - ALL THAT SANDING IS A LOT OF WORK- YOUR ARMS GOT TO BE VERY STRONG,AFTER OF YEARS OF SANDING- ALL I CAN SAY IS MAN CAN YOU CREATE A AUTOMOBILE: THINK YOU WERE BORN TO BUILD A CARS- I KNOW, AND I FEEL WITH IN MY SOUL- YOU WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBER AS ONE OF THE GREAT CAR BUILDERS! - I GOING TO. CALL YOU - ( MR . CAR BUIDERMAN!😎
Love you work it’s my dream to do this I may have a chance because I’m disabled now and can’t walk very long I would love to meet u some day and get a hat and have u and the wife autograph it thanks for the videos
Alot of times when doing sanding bondo like that i'll sand with one hand and have a shop vac in the other.....Cuts down on just blowing the dust all over the shop Kudos to Jolene for the excellent camera work despite being covered in dust
Is that a true legit type 57 Bugatti? Cuase if it is some of these guys that are talking crap about your work need to check the price tag and value of that car. Especially to entrust you to do the work you got plenty of respect in the body world then 👍
Also let the people know you’re not using hand pressure then sanding, let the paper do the work. Excessive pressure just dulls the paper and digs holes in your filler. Think of it as pushing the sanding block across the surface, not into it.
Just finished an air boat bottom.8ft by 16 ft ,3 layers of fiberglass matting, and let me tell you brother,It was a bitch sanding that shit smooth.Had to use a big grinder with 36 grit sandpaper.☹️☹️☹️
WHEN DOING CAR BODY PREP WORK REMEMBER You can't hurry love No, you just have to wait love don't come easy It's a game of give and take You can't hurry love No, you just have to wait You got to trust, give it time No matter how long it takes (with thanks to the Supremes)
Still don't understand why you finish the filler in an 80 grit... Unless American grading is different to the UK... But 80 still leaves big scratches in the bodywork.... Anyone enlighten me?
You have gone into so much detail building and filming these cars i feel like i am part of the build. I could if i wanted to go out and build one myself after watching all these videos

A gritty topic!
I am going to cheer when the Bugatti moves out under its own power. This is just amazing to watch.
I've been doing body work for thirty some years....you're never too old to learn something new.Keep up the videos. Look forward to them every day!
I've done a lot of this work, never as a profession though. I like that everything you show is unedited. This the best camera work yet! "If you know what I'm trying to tell you" Chad you have a very calm style of teaching!
Jeff from Jersey here! I don't work on cars but I love watching your show. This is a continuation of your site when it's not in the air. I've passed on some of your tidbits on life to others. Keep up the great work!

Your great at explaining the procedure to do the body work, jolene is going to have a great looking car when it is all finished
Chad when you do vids like this it's some of the best material to me, someone who learns best hands on, its like being in shop with you, never change my dude👍
The "40 & 80 grit" tip is true pro advice. Thanks bro👍👍👍

Your hard work shows others what it takes to do this work and it's not easy!! Patience Patience Patience and a sense of humor helps also!!
Big Fan from Connecticut!!
I don't want to learn, but to watch this is calming. My wife asked me what I want to do for my 70th today...and here I am!
Thank you for another free lesson. I spent the morning sanding primer, now i can watch Chad do it lol.
Same here. Best feeling
Yep I stopped to let filler dry. And here I am watch Chad sand.
Waiting for my bumper cover to finish cooking in the booth so I can take it home
Getting IT! Getting iT !
This is a great way to show clients what is involved. It's a LOT, of thankless work !
It's only a great sense of pride, at the end of the day, it's DETERMINation !
Great work Chad and Jolene, I’m learning heaps from the videos and starting to copy your processes on my own car. Cheers from Australia
Coming along very nicely ... amazing how one can get hooked to watching Chad .... I never miss any of his videos ... an artist at work !
True that , who can say what perfection is. The creator of his creation has done what the mind has channeled thru to complete the work of art! 👍😎
Thanks Chad I've learnt a lot from these videos .I'm building a Amodel Ford hotrod and I'm at the bodywork stage Thanks again .
Enjoyed the sanding and paint prep tutorial as well as the life philosopy that's part and parcel of the presentation. A great team effort guys. 😎👍
With all the shit going down in the world it’s nice to watch Chad. He takes your mind off things for a bit. And for that Chad I thank you.
Dude, Jolene needs you, at least wear a particle mask. You'll be blowing primer boogers out your nose till Monday!
Love your channel!
I always run over the filler one last time with 220,,,,,its a lot to ask primer to fill up 80 grit sanding scratches .
I'm pretty anal about my body work too. Can relate to the 220.
If you don't use blocks it will be as rippley as the ocean
Well said ! Using dear Chad own analogy’s lol
Thanks for the video, just added my first layer of body filler on my 65 beetle and I will do it myself, because a painter calculated € 6.000,- ..
It has a calming effect watching you work .... and the little dance at the end made me laugh...great job guys
Missed the premiered again today (I love the live chat). I enjoy watching the process. That car is going to rock. Get the likes up!
Another great episode! Thank you so much Chad and Jolene. Watching from Newport News Virginia USA
Its friday. Watchin live in the south of England in ilfracombe, would love to hear chad saying ilfracombe England one friday. Love your ethos chad, great work

Hi Chad I am from Gibbons Alberta Love the instructional videos
Great video. I'm always learning from your videos. Excellent job on the camera too. Thanks for sharing this.

This Bugatti will be gorgeous!!!👍😊
Hay my man its like a good haircut its not how much you cut off its how much you leave on that counts Jolene sure does a great job of filming hat off to both pros

I love the tongue comment, lol, my dad used to say that if it isn’t working maybe your holding your tongue wrong! Move it to the other side and see if that works better! Lol.

Just thinking, your stock wipers will run in to the center bar, You may need to weld the wiper holes and rethink that.
Brad: how long before the first coat of primer.?
Looking good. You are a very patient person. So much sanding.
Cheers
Hey Chad hope you and Jolene having a nice 👌 cars looking very nice
I would call that a car out of the can Ideally you don't want to finger sand but when you've done collision and bodywork and mud work for so long that you can actually sand with the palm of your hand and your fingers to get into tight corners but when prepping and sanding for paint you do not wanna use your fingers chad knows this he's a professional
Hey Bad Chad is on right now in Melbourne Australia !
I think some round rod would look nice on top of headlight buckets. Give it some shape instead of looking like a paint can on its side. Great job so far chad
Yes, the Mk2 Jaguar headlight uses a nice slim teardrop piece that'd look great on the buckets.
It is nice work, should look great when done.
Fantastic workmanship 👍💯.happy Friday to you both
Thanks for Sharing... Do you Guy's know what color Jolene's Bugatti will be? Also what brand and model of Compressor do you run in your shop?
Can't wait, eager to see your Methodology.
When you go to putting the motor in can you put it in from the bottom. Looks like a tight fit with no mounts it might be easier.
Bad Chad motivational speaker ,I’d pay to hear you.
Jolene getting great a filming good job Jolene

"Like rollin' my first doobie". Love it.
Alot of times when doing sanding bondo like that i'll sand with one hand and have a shop vac in the other.....Cuts down on just blowing the dust all over the shop
Kudos to Jolene for the excellent camera work despite being covered in dust
Great project, I'm hooked.
Got your work cut out😁 great video!
One step at a time, using whatever works best.
Glorious glorious sanding 😎
Good work you two.
Is that a true legit type 57 Bugatti? Cuase if it is some of these guys that are talking crap about your work need to check the price tag and value of that car. Especially to entrust you to do the work you got plenty of respect in the body world then 👍
Man I love the Body work, but I am not a Fan of sanding, but has to be done. !
She is coming great Chad & Jolene....Ettore Bugatti would be proud.....:-)
Damn bro, you got td a wear a mask sanding that glass or your lungs are gonna look like your pants!
Other than that, great video👍
Exacktly my thought aswell. Shame on Chad about the mask! But exacktly as you said. Great film other than that :)
He wears one when he’s not on yt
@@colinstables did you see it for yourself ?
Really ?
@@OCT566 he said he takes them off to yt
Did you use lead?, On the part you pointed to and said food for thought
You gotta make shirts with Chadisms... My first recommendation is "If you know what i'm trying to tell ya"
More good instruction. Thank you.
I got another question what kinda primer do use 2k primer or do use epoxy sealer?
Man that reminds me to much off snow Fencing. But I like it.
I got a question what kind fiber glass do use do use bondo glass short stand?
Depends where you put the punctuation
at what point does he start using guide coat and a block?
What a great lesson.
Also let the people know you’re not using hand pressure then sanding, let the paper do the work. Excessive pressure just dulls the paper and digs holes in your filler. Think of it as pushing the sanding block across the surface, not into it.
That's how to do 8 hours work in an hour! Bad Fast Chad !😎
Just finished an air boat bottom.8ft by 16 ft ,3 layers of fiberglass matting, and let me tell you brother,It was a bitch sanding that shit smooth.Had to use a big grinder with 36 grit sandpaper.☹️☹️☹️
do you know you can shape with a cheeze grader. when it just starts to set. and shape with very little sanding.

Once I practiced enough I got my first doobie too.
I just bought a some wood and some brass.

My thoughts exactly!?
Watching from Germany
ITS FRIDAY...👍👍
When your good, your good...and you are good LOL
When youre half as good as me, youll be good
Yo Bad Chad, I use to watch you in prison lol!! But I'm excited to get into this video
Still don't understand why you finish the filler in an 80 grit... Unless American grading is different to the UK... But 80 still leaves big scratches in the bodywork.... Anyone enlighten me?
Good evening jolene and chad
That's why people use glazing putty so you don't disturb the mud you prime it and then use the glazing putty
Love this guy.
Why ? he is weird
What is the cost of the da sander
What make is your sander?
