TIP TIP Hey Chad - I know your interested in efficiency. On the door gaps - take Two razors tape them with a popsicle stick (or whatever) in between - This way - You only Cut once along the door line - and the gap is done and perfect no taping necessary - The gap is consistently perfect every time......with just one swipe. Best CL Corrado
Ive seen an old car builder take a stir stick tapped 2 razor blades on the end one on each side and that was the width of his door gap on every car he builds. Worked great and super fast
Hi ive spent most of my life fixing everyone elses vehicles and have no energy for my own thing since watching tv and your youtube vids im spurred on many thanks from uk
Forget the car stuff! I love watching it, but I really gain a lot just from your attitude about life. Doing things for yourself and not worrying about what others think or say. There’s a lesson to be learned in that. Too few of us nowadays are capable of letting things go and realizing life is too short to not let go of the negativity of others. 👍
Most honest builder on TV and TH-cam. Chad you honestly have inspired me to finally start doing more of my own body work on my VWs. Thanks for doing these, you should have way more subscribers!!!
Chad you show how to do it with out having to purchase a lot of tools at an enormous Price! Plus you didn't weight out your fill😅 just kidding. Great job👊
Definitely do NOT let haters get to you. I thank you so much for your time and effort. Learning priceless information here and I enjoy it. You are a true professor.
Man you do a great job . Everybody has their own way of doing things , that's how we learn new things . Keep doing what you do . You and Joleen get y'all some rest and enjoy the night
Chad is giving the regular car guy great hints to complete their project in a reasonable amount of time and for a fair price. I find his show great fun to watch, totally Canadian type of guy. Good on you buddy.
Your method is a lot easier than mine, thanks for the door gap tip. Joleen, awesome welding and videoing. I don't know what Chad ever did with out you. Thanks for the vids.
New watcher here! Love the good vibes n the positivity. Gonna binge watch older videos till a new one comes along. Great job and the cars are beautiful!
Yet another great video! Great job Chad and Jolene! A little tip based on your razor blade trick which an old bodyshop guy taught me is to tape or screw 2 razorblades together with a ice lolly or paint stick in between when running the blade across the door edge as you do, the 2nd blade is also cutting a 2nd line exactly the width of the lolly/paint stick away from your door edge giving a nice even gap all the way around, still finished the same way as bad chads method however handy as it saves your masking tape and ensures the same gap all the way around 😎👌
Great job. Really nice result. I agree that you can do a lot without a lot of money. I've been building furniture as a hobby for almost 45 years now and not spending a lot of money to get a great deal of satisfaction and pleasing a lot of people along the way. Cars have always been a passion of mine and while I have not worked on cars like you do for many years because family, a job and my furniture has taken most of my time I can still really appreciate the craftmanship and work that goes into these builds. Great work and looking forward to seeing the rest of the builds.
Thanks heaps Chad , am up to this stage on my 1958 morris minor custom build and this video was exactly what I needed to get it done . From Nick, New Zealand
Good video Chad on getting great body lines. I was watching Bitchin Rides last night and they were working on a 51 Ford truck. They were doing alot of sheet metal work and it reminded me of what you said in your video yesterday. I was saying you have to flood it out! they put fiberglass on then sprayed it with epoxy primer just like you said, then they used polyester filler over it. It was like Deja Vu all over again! Good Show!
Great content Chad , I do the same but I made a tool for this very thing very simple and would save you the time of running tape around your opening . . Take a piece of 1/8" x 1" flat bar and two razor blades . Tack the two blades onto the flat bar at about 45% to the end of the bar .Load your foam as usual , apply filler onto the panels as you have shown , now use the tool you've just made , again running against the door as you've demonstrated but the two blades after tacking them on equates to the perfect 3/16" gap . Works excellent .I enjoy your sessions and am subscribed . Later !
I’ve seen it done similar but using a paint mixing stick with a razor blade taped to each side and then they run it on the door. Same concept except you do both sides at the same time. The door gap is then the thickness of the paint stick.
Thank you for sharing. Stumbled across your videos by accident a few days ago glad I did. Frantically trying to catch up on all your stuff 😁not enough hours in the day. Love your style, explanations and outlook on life, excellent. You only get out of life what you put in and it takes time, can’t do it all in 5 minutes. So many great tips and ideas to help with our projects, thank you and good health to you 😊
Just Found you that car looks absolutely amazing go to follow you all the way through thanks for brightening up my evenings and early mornings from Keith and England
Hey Chad I watch all ur videos and I live in Kingsport Tennessee and u teach alot on the stuff u do cause u take ur time and tell how u do things and show how u do it to and that's why I like watching all ur videos
A little trick i learned for this is use a paint stir stick. Put a razor blade on both sides the thickness of the paint stir stick then using the same example like Chad run this along the door skin and it will give you a constant gap to the body the thickness of the paint stir stick. pretty cool :)
Awesome project. My 2 cents is to blow off the work between filler layers. That keeps the dust balls and pinholes from developing and causing need for more sand and fill. Keep on with the great vids.
Love the content and builds. Love to see Chad’s passion for building cars. I also see Chads love for Jolene! I’d like for Jolene to wear a mic too. Chad often asks her questions throughout a video.
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing. I'm interested in seeing the next step. Final sanding before primer. You said you don't block sand and you use a DA. How do you not have a bunch of pig tail swirls in the filler? do you use a high build primer to fill those swirls in? I don't know anything about this so I don't know what high build primer is capable of filling. I'm seriously curious. Very interested to follow along.
EXCELLENT information! THANK YOU so much I was just getting ready to work on door gaps on my corvette! HUGE HELP! Take care and God bless you all! David
Chad and Jolene a youtube car would be great but I think you should do a raffle or merch buy for entries so that way your getting your money back for another build kinda like how you do the drawing for rockabilly
Thank you for the knowledge you bring to the table I've been watching your TH-cam shows for well over a year now it's got to be closer to 2 and your replies to my comments are wonderful also so thank you so much
Great stuff! Love your channel Chad! Yes quick and easyZ! But it’s the wrong method. So first as an ex professional body man- Never use a cut off wheel for leveling edges. Or a mini disk. If you accidentally leave a gouge it’s back to filling. Use a 6” DA if you have to but I recommend a file or a long block and 40 to 80 grit. Recommended. Using foam to keep the filler out of the jam is correct. But filling edges with filler is Bad Chad.. The edges won’t hold up over time. If you are working with fiberglass then that’s what you need to use and it can’t be cat-hair or strand fiberglass it needs to be the real deal. Layers of fiberglass and resin. Or it will never hold up on the edge. never ever do this. Never ever use Bondo or regular body filler to create an edge as it will crack and break off within six months or less. If needing to narrow a wide gap or fill in a gap on a metal car you need fill in and to weld in round rod to the edge or some type of steel filler rod and you weld that in there to close up that edge. The. You file it down to the correct gap. But never thin out material that has adhesive-based formula within as it reduces and breaks down adhesion over time and it doesn’t hold up near as well. Ensure I understand that Chad does what he knows and what he has picked up overtime and is self proclaimed. But doing videos as an instructor and doing things the wrong way on videos that will be public for years is absolutely Unacceptable. you’re also putting others at risk of learning things wrong and you basically cause many more issues down the road for them. You cannot sculpt using body filler and call it bodywork!. And so this is not how you do it...this is how chad does it. And even though I really like Chad I will not condone bad information on the Internet or the airwaves because it’s such a hindrance to those who really need to learn the correct way to do things. And even though you can get by doing the stuff it does not make it right. It’s wrong. There remains future complications to come. The best way for Chad to do a proper video and to help others is to show other people how to create these edges the right way which would be to hire a professional body man and have him show Chad exactly the way to do this gapping on a metal car, or fiberglass car, which is not using body filler to build edges. Never build an edge with body filler!! It is not strong enough to hold up under vibration. I’m not here to change Chad‘s opinion or affect his life. I am here following because I’m trying to help others along with the right message. I have no problem with enjoying chad and watching his videos and I’m not trying to upset him or change him I don’t want to do that as he says in the videos that’s not gonna happen anyway. So he does what he does and I’m glad for that. But- I just don’t like anyone teaching wrong methods on videos and having such a large following that all of those people get the wrong information . And of course like he says to do one of these projects in 35 days there’s a lot of tricks in it and cheating that goes along with that. But if you want it to last you need to spend more than 35 days on one to make it last. My opinion as a restoration expert and professional ex body man with years of experience.. Thank you Chad. I enjoy watching you. Your truth is a your Truth. Whether right or wrong.
Man, you are living my dream. I would love to figure out how to build a car such as a you seem to do. Did you fabricate the body of the Bugatti yourself? I am a new subscriber, so kindly excuse my ignorance. I went to your channel page and tried to find the beginning videos of the Bugatti build without success. I for one would like to see your process. I find your approach or style very refreshing. You seem very honest as reflected by how you explain your process in the videos that I have watched so far.
Another informative and inspiring video. Thank you very much Chad and Jolene, Please keep these great videos coming. I love that you show what it really takes to do this work, the TV show is great but not as good as these latest youtube videos you have put out.
His style is his and he will defend himself and I love that..
TIP TIP

Chad you show how to do it with out having to purchase a lot of tools at an enormous Price! Plus you didn't weight out your fill😅 just kidding. Great job👊
Chad
You are right the tools don't make the Man or woman.
It's what the person does with what little tools they have at their disposal.
Definitely do NOT let haters get to you. I thank you so much for your time and effort. Learning priceless information here and I enjoy it. You are a true professor.

i am learning so much from these half hour videos, thank you Chad and company..
Thanks Chad & Jolene! My husband & I enjoy your show.
Great to see real time work ! Instead of a whole car built in an hour like most car shows ..
New watcher here! Love the good vibes n the positivity. Gonna binge watch older videos till a new one comes along. Great job and the cars are beautiful!
This is the stuff no one has ever let me see before or would explain it as you have done, thank you so much, it makes sense now.

Chad and Jolene a youtube car would be great but I think you should do a raffle or merch buy for entries so that way your getting your money back for another build kinda like how you do the drawing for rockabilly
Try the 2 razor blades on either side of a paint stick. Eastwood video on body gaps?
Thank you for the knowledge you bring to the table I've been watching your TH-cam shows for well over a year now it's got to be closer to 2 and your replies to my comments are wonderful also so thank you so much

Great job, cant wait to see it all together with that louvered hood
I've been following for a while now. And your work is one of a kind!
Chad your thought process is amazing. I love the videos!! Keep it up.
Great attitude, keep doing what your doing!
I struggled with some gaps in the past. Never again will I struggle. Thank you!
my kids call me a motor trend freak, Bad Chad is our favorite.........can't wait for Hitz merch under the tree
Awesome videos as usual. Real stand up guy. Thanks for the pointers Chad
Love how you explain so every one can understand sharing your knowledge
Bad chad are honest 👍🏿i love your work chad you are cool dude 😁.
Another informative and inspiring video. Thank you very much Chad and Jolene, Please keep these great videos coming. I love that you show what it really takes to do this work, the TV show is great but not as good as these latest youtube videos you have put out.
Fantastic video and thank you for sharing
Love how you explain everything in detail. Great information, thanks for sharing.
Hi chad your videos are awesome thank you I have a question can I do body gaps on a fender like you do the door gaps thanks again Randy schmitt
Thank you like always your super helpful and so awesome..
Tape is a pain in the a$$ to set. use an old modified compass divider to scratch in a line...(for gaps)
Buy some 1/4 or 1/8 vinyl fine line tape, works perfect for that, you probably have some anyhow.
What a great tip. Thank you for sharing!
Love the build and really enjoying your channel Chad!
