Pro tip. When you get the plunger in and are applying pressure go on the inside take a lighter and apply a little heat to the spot. This will cause the resin to suck into the cracks. I had a professional glass repair person tell me that. I did it with mine and it worked great. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the info...As I watched this video I was wondering why a lighter wasn't being used as I'd always seen one used when having my own rock chips professionally repaired
Interesting about the lighter tip. Thanks and will try that. But i thought the sun was needed for the UV rays to help cure the resin? Not just heat from a hairdryer.
@@elizabethdorchester5307 we talking about the dryer being used from inside the screen or outside? Also at what point or stage do we use the dryer? Many thanks
I did my repair on a cool (55°F) but sunny day and here’s a tip that helped me: I cleaned the windshield with rubbing alcohol, then left the car in the sun for 30 minutes to make sure the alcohol evaporated and to heat the windshield up a bit. I then moved the car out of the sun into the carport and did the repair per the instructions. As I slowly turned the pressure driver, I watched from inside the car as the resin seeped into all the little cracks and crevices of the damaged area. I think pre-heating the windshield helped the resin flow easier.
Good step by step video. I had surprisingly good results with this kit. Took a nickel size whitish mark on the window down to a barely noticeable distortion in the glass. Saved $120 vs going to a window repair place.
Richard Ya around here in Illinois they want $145.00 just to do one chip and if you got a chip and a crake its $240 and that they are calling that a discount
Great video. Repaired a chip in my windshield this morning that I had been quoted $109 for by the local Safelite glass repair company. Was told each subsequent repair would "only be $26.00" $11 for the kit from the local auto parts store and 30 minutes later - chip repaired.
Well done mate. Best video i've seen of anyone using this kit and your further applications by hand show the damage can be improved even more. I'm in the middle of repairing mine right now and just waiting on the 1st curing process! Edit: I noticed that after applying the drops into the pressure screw thing, if i tapped behind it on the inside of the windscreen continually, with the ends of my fingers, the resin spread throughout the tiny cracks that were coming off the initial chip. The more I tapped the better the resin spread within them. My chip has been sitting there for at least 6 months so it would have been better if I had done it earlier, but it has turned out perfect!
Just to say thanks for the video. With admirable determination I've waded through a whole selection of videos on repairing cracks on windscreens using Rainx and have shown considerable maturity and restraint by not leaving comments on most of them. Thanks for your video! Watched before I attempted in the morning before returning a car rental. Nice demo, just did this myself. Mine came with about 15 of those plastic strips so after I took care of the initial crack, I took care of about 10 of those small rock chips by just using the resin and plastic. It was a LOT of razor blade scraping but the windshield looks a lot newer because of it. Thanks!

Even if you use a professional service, chipped glass will never be 100% the same as it was before. That turned out pretty damn good considering. The resin is meant to strengthen the glass moreso than anything else.

Hello Dave, I followed your instructions, and it worked perfectly chip has gone and the spider cracks faded, making a saving of £190.00, the rain -x cost me £10.00, thanks for sharing Best regards - Pete.
This worked well on a bullseye on my new Honda, but it was only partially successful on a 6 inch crack on the other side. Still better than replacing the windscreen.

I did one this afternoon with a cheap kit, worked 100 percent. Didn't follow the instructions either, sometimes you just got to ignore the instructions and do it as you think is best.
So glad I found this! I cant believe what a professional wants for a small chip! I just want mine fixed because I believe It made it through the outside surface and I get condensation in my windshield on cool mornings and nights and have to crank up my defrosters to clear it up.

Another Pro tip - "don't twist off the round ball on top of the resin... :) There's actually enough there to do at least 3 to 4 jobs. What I do is simply unscrew the top of the bottle and add the drops then quickly put it back on to save the ample supply given, for another round.... After this is done, you simply wash the plunger piece with break cleaner/carb cleaner and that resin breaks right up. Then once complete, soak the plunger piece in soapy warm water for about an hour, so that it gets rid of the break cleaner/carb cleaner chemicals and leaves the rubber supple, so it can be used again.. ;)
I may give this a try. I noticed a very small crack today in the windshield of my old truck. Even a little smaller than this one. I don't care if it looks perfect, just don't want the crack to expand.
top tip: when travelling behind bulk haulage (tipper) trucks, leave a good 30 meters. When I drove tippers and was paid by the load, it was always a quick sweep of the back door plate and any excess stone just fell off onto the road (then bounces up onto following cars windscreen) on the way to the next job ;)
A blemish is always going to be visible. You can't replace glass that has been chipped away, you can only patch it. The purpose of a chip repair is to keep it from 'running out'. That being said. This patch kit seamed to do a pretty good job. And a lot cheaper than my $900 professional kit.
Thanks for the video! Mine got chipped last week and I had to wait for a sunny day before attempting to repair this myself. Unfortunately its not warm out though so it may take longer for the resin to setup. I'll have to use a lighter from the I side I'm sure to make sure the resin is getting sucked into the cracks. Thanks once again.
Our stupid insurance company in British Columbia called ICBC will not permit professional glass companies to repair glass like you just did. They will only pay for new windshields to be installed at huge cost. Crazy! Your demo was great! I am surprised RainX does not pay you to do one for them so they could put on the printed directions. Good job!
even after 2 years of a chip I managed to fade it out with a preventive digging with a needle and cleaning with alcohol. It took me more to prepare the place. Now it is barely visible but at least I know I've sealed the cracks and no more water and dust will get in there. Thanks for the video...
Wow thanks. I'm going to give this a go tomorrow! Interesting how it worked better when you put more of the resin 3rd time without the sheet overtop and not even put back outside
Does it hurt (other than wasting resin) if I put more drops than I need? I’m assuming not, and I want try to avoid as much maintenance drops on a second round. So a lighter to the inside of the windshield with a bit of a distance, no harm in that huh? Also, the instructions online say to unscrew pressure driver and screw back again to display any air inside crack, but it wasn’t mentioned here. Unnecessary I’m assuming?
I had mine done professionally and yours looked much better then mine did. It’s your tint difference is why you barely see it. Nice job! My windshield had condensation inside every time it rained , it wasn’t done correctly.
Used this today on a 3/4 year old chip on my windscreen,I can't believe the difference. I've just done the final stage of dabbing some on ,but even before that you really couldn't see where it had chipped
Wow, is that a diesel truck? Wasn't expecting that. I'm going to try this product tomorrow on a 2017 Toyota Prius and a 1997 Ford F250 7.3 Turbo Diesel.
I had small rock chips on windshield but it was fixed by chip repair man and said the best he can do. Somehow still look not good at all. Can I try to re do it with this kit and expect it will be better? Do I have to clean the stuff inside first before filling it and how to clean it? Thanks for the video
Hey there thanks for the video I just followed your instructions to the tea, I have a spider crack, and it is currently curing in the sun, The spider crack is still there does the crack diminish as the resin dries or should it look better right away because mine looks the same, Are used about six drops but it was hard to tell if the resin actually got sucked into the crack lol
Followed all your instructions and the ones on the kit. Can't see my nasty chip anymore. Took about an hour to get it just right but well worth it. Thanks mate.
Thank you. This was my first proper attempt too, I'm happy with the end result and have actually used it since again on another car with a slightly better result!
Thanks for the vid, was a great help, I have just used the rainx kit and it filled the chip but I can still see it, it's an old chip and was full of dirt which I struggled to remove, and also I suspect somebody has tried repairing it it before as I had to pick out some old resin with a needle. But my question is, once I have done the repair can I redo it and is there anyway of getting the crack completely clean? Thanks again.
@@JeanPaulFernandes not sure how old the chip was, as it was there when I bought the car. I have been told you can drill the old stuff out, but obviously be careful. It's still worked though.
does anyone know how to remove old resin before i do this? just bought my car on saturday and didnt notice the dirty big chip on the window at the time, was only when i had to de-ice it yesterday that it came to my attention
So does this only work for small chips or can it work for bigger cracks ?? I've been debating on purchasing this but your chip is so small so now I'm wondering 🤔
Yes. The kit says cracks up to a few inches I think it says. Works the same but you may have to move the applicator a few times to get the best coverage.
You will probably be able to get a much better kit for professional use. This is a very "DIY" kit and takes a long time to complete. I'd look into other more "pro" kits if I was you.
Drill a small hole into the crack, then inject the resin … The resin will fill the line crack about 2" on either side of the drilled hole .. Any crack larger than that, the windshield should be replaced ..
I used something similar today to fix a reasonable line crack in my windshield. I cheated a little bit and applied a light amount of pressure on the underside and allowed to resin to sleep in. P.S it could make the crack longer if you do that use with EXTREME HUGE MASSIVE LARGE EXTREMELY HUMONGOUS CAUSION. That made one side almost vanish but I wish I thought of that before I did the correct side bahhh.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, this was very helpful. I was able to “almost”remove the cracks, there’s a tiny bit of a dot on the windshield that can only be seen by me.
My chip also has 4 three inch cracks coming from the point of impact. Will filling the chip stop them from spreading or do I need to drill and tap a new bulls eye for each of the cracks?
I've got a few 2mm chips scattered around the windscreen and I figured just applying the resin + curing sheet without the plunger should touch them up nicely (in theory) At the end of the day, whilst I want it to look better, the real value in the product is that it ensures that moisture can't get in the chip, imo that's worth it's weight in gold. Many thanks for your video, it's given me a much better understanding of the process. 👍

Mine's the same, did yours fix once cured?
So needle and thread! Lol what about 5 inches crakes, remove ant clockwise! I love you Brit's the way you all talk
As we tightened the suction cups, the crack became bigger. It is cracking inside and can't fill the resin. Is it a bad news?
Hi there. This repair kit how many time can be used. Or it is Disposable? Thanks!
Can be used more than once at the same time.
What if there’s a crack extending from the chip? How to deal with that?
will it work for relatively deep scratch (you can feel it with nail)?
its january in seattle. how do i find sunlight to do this?
You can find a ultraviolet ray light to help the glue solidify
Followed all your instructions and the ones on the kit. Can't see my nasty chip anymore. Took about an hour to get it just right but well worth it. Thanks mate.
Well done and thanks for uploading. Bout to go try this myself. Great video!!!!
You should be hired to do all youtube voiceovers. Well done.
Great video thanks
What would you suggest for a winter repair with no sun?
I am reluctant to use heat on a cold windscreen
I think you will need some heat to be honest.
Well thought! Be very careful applying heat on glass I have broken many this way
Good video, very helpful. To get a chip to 95% is exceptional
Thanks again.
how old was the chip? i have a 2 year old chip and bought the kit but wondering if it will work
@@JeanPaulFernandes not sure how old the chip was, as it was there when I bought the car. I have been told you can drill the old stuff out, but obviously be careful. It's still worked though.
THE BEST TUTORIAL! Thank you! 🎉
Good honist review. That's more important than the results
Cheers Alex
Can it be used on regular windows or only car windshield
Can you do this repair in the sun light?
lttp, good vid! Doing my windscreen either today or tomorrow and will have you playing alongside me :)
Beautifully done .
Thanks for the video
You are a life saver saved me atleast 3000 rupees
The Gorons may have been able to help you for less
I think if you would have added 6 drops of resin at the very beginning, you would have had no issues … Cheers!
Agreed!
does anyone know how to remove old resin before i do this? just bought my car on saturday and didnt notice the dirty big chip on the window at the time, was only when i had to de-ice it yesterday that it came to my attention
Depends how big as it'll be time consuming, but... I'd use the edge of a Stanley blade to scratch and pick at it.
Cheers pal i wanted to know how good this was cheers for that very interesting video! 👍
Do we peel the paper after the 10min? Or just leave it there??
So does this only work for small chips or can it work for bigger cracks ?? I've been debating on purchasing this but your chip is so small so now I'm wondering 🤔
What happens if its a line crack not a bullseye?? Would this still work?
Yes. The kit says cracks up to a few inches I think it says. Works the same but you may have to move the applicator a few times to get the best coverage.
@@DetailingandtheBeast This is great to know. I want to start my own business with this kit, do you think it'll be a good idea?
You will probably be able to get a much better kit for professional use. This is a very "DIY" kit and takes a long time to complete. I'd look into other more "pro" kits if I was you.
Drill a small hole into the crack, then inject the resin … The resin will fill the line crack about 2" on either side of the drilled hole .. Any crack larger than that, the windshield should be replaced ..
what do you do if u have a long crack?
Can I do it if there’s 50 degrees F but sunny?
I need help I’m trying to scrape the residue with a razor blade and it’s not coming ofg
It is not bad at all for the cost of it! I have went to a repair windshield and on the small chips your job is nicer!
I'd hit that multiple places. Starting with the impact point. Then going after what remains.
@@DetailingandtheBeast So drill each crack tap it to make a Bulls Eye and then resin each one?
@@martinalbert5653 drill??
Hi help please
I was inside my car and hit the windscreen with my iPad. The crack happened from the inside
Can I use this still
You can only but try! It's likely going to need replacing so why not just try it.
Very detailed video. Thank you. Worth taking the extra time that you did to get that end result
How did you clean inside the cip?
I've got a few 2mm chips scattered around the windscreen and I figured just applying the resin + curing sheet without the plunger should touch them up nicely (in theory)
At the end of the day, whilst I want it to look better, the real value in the product is that it ensures that moisture can't get in the chip, imo that's worth it's weight in gold.
Many thanks for your video, it's given me a much better understanding of the process. 👍
Good video, did a very similar thing on mine today with very good results, thanks!
You are welcome. 👍
You can use a UV lamp to cure too on rainy days.
does it go through the crack onto carpet
