    Good video!.... A couple of tips I can give yo.... I was an Auto Glass installer for 43 years before I retired. I did chip repairs for over 30 years..... When you are doing the chip repairs, make sure to wear Nitrile gloves all the time and never get the resin on you... A long the last, I developed an allergy to the resin and would break out in a rash. Bad stuff.......Also. Try using a single-edged, razor blade to scrape the dried resin from the glass.... Instead of using a "Slicing" motion (as shown in video) to remove resin, hold a single-edged razor blade at a 90% angle to the windshield and rub it back and forth, as if you were plaining down the excess resin....This will this process will make the repaired area even with the rest of the windshield... After you are done, use a little car wax to shine up the area..... There is also a product you can use called"PIt Glaze" but car wax will do just as well.... After the area is polish, you may not even see the damage............ Hope this helps............You did a fine job repairing the WS on this video..... and you offered no misleading info.......Thanks for posting!

    • @jackoshaw
      @jackoshaw 8 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      I would be a good idea when repairing a crack, not to have your car in direct sunlight... First, the polymor used to repair the chip is cured through ultra-violet rays of the sun... Second, The windshield should never be hot from the sun, during the process... A hot windshield is likely to crack much easier......Always do the repair in the shade and make sure the windshield is rather cool.... This may help.......... The best repair kit on the market is made by Aegis..... This is professional equipment and is expensive, but once mastered, it can pay for it's self.......

    Being a auto glass technician myself I say this is pritty cool and very interesting, good for people who don’t have $100 to get there chips fixed just have to make sure your very careful not to let it crack of in the process. One additional tip for this diy repair would be to lightly heat the inside of the screen with a lighter right where the chip is. This will help make that resn get thinner and will make it easy for it to get right out to the end of the legs of the chip and lightly tap around the chip with a small piece of steel :) cool stuff

      What the heat does is expand the area that's damaged while you are injecting resin into the area and let's that resin get into the voids while you have pressure on it.

    • @latafairam
      @latafairam ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to so this in direct sunlight. Glass get really hot believe it or not.

    • @russellhowell9854
      @russellhowell9854 ปีที่แล้ว

      What the heat does when you hit the bullseye or starburst with a torch lighter is it expands to open the lines in the damage where the resin pushes further into the Crack. You just very quickly hit it with torch and then get off of it.

The two things I always hated were people wanting them on rainy days or they had been there for too long and sediment got into the chip blocking the resin. Sometimes "tiny" chips are super deep, cracking out, or in the line of sight and if you live in Florida or Kentucky then its better to be safe then sorry (it may spread while repairing or within a day or so of driving) Comp coverage on most ins's with even a 2500 deductible covers replacement mobile and free (even non-static recalibration) with virtually no premium change with a glass waiver and repair for free as. Replacement isn't free without a glass waiver but it can be inexpensive like 15 bucks more a month for around a 0- 100 deductible

    Fixed 2 chips on the GF's car. They were within a quarter inch of each other in the field of view on the driver's side. I used the Rain-x kit and did 2 applications (one on each chip). I found that the Rain-x kit worked better than this type of kit, mostly because of the precision that the applicator kit has using a smaller area to contain the resin over the actual crack. I used 7 drops of resin for each application. Both chips now appear to be barely visible, almost like a dried water spot on the glass. From inside looking out, they are invisible.

    There really should be something done about those dump truck and semi's that haul rocks and gravel. Those signs a lot of them have on the back saying "not responsible for broken windshields" are bull crap but I guess they hope people will believe it and not try to get them to pay for it, and they probly believe it themselves, but it's not true, if you fail to secure your load and that causes damage to somebody else's property you are responsible for it.

    Make sure to double check the seal of the tube that the resin goes into (the gray one) before you insert the resin. I got a little ahead of myself and didn’t press it hard enough onto the sticky side and when I pulled up on the cyringe a bunch of resin came squirting out of the crack between the sticky film and the gray base. Hopefully it’ll still repair itself though. Just waiting right now to see.(UPDATE: Yep, I screwed up and the crack is only 80% gone, will have to buy another kit and see if I’m able to fill in the rest)...
