    I just had a cracked windshield fixed last week, it is AWESOME !.... The new windshield was going to cost me around 500 bucks, but I stopped by and had a repair guy do it for 50 bucks and I cant even see it anymore. It was a good repair job and he saved me 450 bucks, Believe me, I need to save money today too, I lost my job 2 months ago and money is TIGHT !

    I am always amazed at the people who only replace windshields and think because I can perform long crack repairs that I am only a repair shop. I have been in the Auto Glass replacement and repair business for over 30 years and both have there place. Windshield repair is a good alternative to replacement on many damages and the industry has been around since 1972. We also offer a lifetime warranty! Most insurance companies pay the cost of preventive repair. They would not pay if it was a scam.

    It depends sometimes if the crack is a single crack coming from the edge and you can reach it with a drill to put a stop at the tip. Then if you can inject some of the crack from the tip to the edge with resin you usually can save the windshield.. You would not need to fill all of the crack to stop it and save the windshield. We have also had good success with repairing cracks that start from the mirror bracket.

    • @timborel1111

    That is pretty amazing! I have an Alfa 164 with a crack at the base of the windscreen not even as large as this. Safelite said they couldn't do anything about it, but obviously in can be done. (I'll also have to have something done because new windscreens are hard to source.) It may not be perfect, but it was pretty amazing how much of an improvement it made. I didn't notice anything until you mentioned the roof of the McDonald's. Thanks for the honesty! Are there any stores in Wisconsin? I'd drive because it looks like it can be done while you wait!

      @Tim Evans,
      Where do you exactly tap using a needle to create a bull’s eye: past the Dremel drilled point and exactly opposite where the crack stops?
      I tend to think the little drilling at 2/16th of an inch in front of the crack end suffices to serve the purpose of stopping the crack from propagating, and rather fear the tapping would create multi-directional crack seeds (but apparently that’s not the case as you’ve successfully completed thousands of repairs that held up but I’m trying to understand why my theory isn’t valid). The drilling with the Dremel creates a tiny crater that catches and ends the crack from proceeding further. So, I’d like to learn of your comments on my theories.

    the crack is very tight at the tip and needs a real thin resin as it goes to the Edge gets wider a gap like about 12,000 wife or So. So thin resin will not Bond where there's a Gap is like trying to use super glue or you need epoxy.

    Tim,
    I have to say "that's impressive ".
    Being in the autoglass replacement Industry for 30 years and an NGA Master Autoglass Technician, I can honestly say I've never seen that done before.
    Probably because the industry and most reputable busineses and insurance companies don't recommend such large repairs.
    You should let these guys know that the two substrates, glass and the Ultraviolet Cured Polymer Resin will separate, over a short period of time and the crack will reappear, leaving them with the same problem that they came to you with.
    Just because you can't see it now, doesn't mean that it's safe or even repaired.
    This is one of the reasons to replace as opposed to putting a "band-aid "on it.

    • @Andrew-hx9tz

      @DanOfTheWild This is not what dentists use for fillings and what is used to repair small planned and uniform holes in teeth that will not be exposed for long periods of time should not be used to repair 21 inch cracks in glass. You are ignorant to dentistry and glass science. About 14 inches and that windshield is compromised. Even the best resin and techniques and you will still see yellowing and shrinking in a 3-4 years if not kept in cover most of that time. These are never lifetime solutions. They are to get you on your way and save you some money for now. I understand people use this as their livelihoods and plenty of people do shoddy work to make a quick buck but these guys are doing it wrong.

Sometimes the dash is in the way and it is difficult to reach the crack to perform a repair.

    And you just duped another. The windshield is broken and will NEVER be as strong as the original. Of course your deceptive sign advertising your business is smoke and mirrors also. Another sham by the insurance company to not pay for repair for the customers. I hope you don't cost someone their life when the air-bag deploys.

    What size/ type of drillbit can you use for that? And what do you use to tap the bull’s-eye? Meaning if you don’t have specialized tools. Trying to fix my own windshield.

    About 2/16th. You need to be just ahead of the crack so when you tap the bulls-eye the tip of the crack connects to the bulls-eye and not past it,

    Hello JB,
    Most shops only want to replace and it is too bad. I do not have anyone in Alabama at this time.

    Any advice on a crack that goes right to the edge of the glass and where one side of the crack is raised up above the other? I haven't tried pressing on the raised side to make it flush in case I crack or break it more. One is raised above the other by about 1/8".

    Great Question Eaglethorn,
    Most shops only want to replace windshields. We do have people in CA,TX,CO,OK, and other places including international. We are a growing company however we do not have very good coverage as most of the shops are very slow to bring this technology on and just want to put in new windshields and it is a shame.

    • @HVACSoldier
      @HVACSoldier 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sooo, basically, what you are saying, is that most shops can only repair cracks up to the length of a dollar bill, and I would have had to replace my windshield anyway. The nearest windshield repair shop, for me, was in Omaha, Nebraska.

      From my experience,not many will repair long cracks,and if they do the damage will continue on from where the old crack used to be.
      These gents did a good job,very professional.

    You can repair a crack if you can reach the tip to drill it. you need to load the injector by putting the resin in the bottom then installing the injector seal.
