I was gonna buy the Rain-X kit, but one of the reviews said he regretted not getting a kit with the syringe to force resin into the crack. So I went with the Permatex kit. Came out very well. The line crack is basically gone and the bulleyes looks like just a tiny chip now. So these kits do work. You just have to do it before it spreads too much. I had a 1 CM crack that became about an inch after 6-7 months. Decided to take care of it now before my safety inspection. Well worth the price.

I used one of those suction cup kits several years ago. I tightened down that center post and it leaked so I did a 1/4 turn and Plink, the crack spread all the way from top to bottom.

make sure it will pass its wof before trying to repair it yourself, as if your repair fails it will make it harder if not impossible for professionals to repair and you may end up having to replace the entire windscreen (that is currently my situation..)
if you do try it yourself you should check out these videos for repairing cracks:
      th-cam.com/video/3UxQpTeQBQg/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/mZ7LhOXlTrA/w-d-xo.html
also cool the windscreen first to contract the glass and open the crack. you need two people, one to help push out the crack.
My crack is tiny, nothing like in these videos, but it is enough to fail a wof in my country.. so be careful. i just dont want anyone else to go through what i am going through. its no fun.. :-p

I probably agree with your cosmetic synopsis, but am uncertain about the 1.durability 2.strength 3. Tensility (to temperature fluctuations)
Again, as in other comments i have left today, I think a glass shield replacement should be a primary objective as the fixes should not be the "definitive care" for this item.
I'm not a safety engineer though, just a daughter of a former one.
But, You definitely saved me shopping around. I think I have looked at 4 different brands and methods today. I think I will hold on to the JB weld Clear Weld and the Permatex Sealant for other projects. I might even make some bas relief on [one of] my car, using a generic rubber stamp and the acetate barrier :D 😀
