- Essex, England, a dusky summer's evening draws to a close on the 6th of August 1985. Across large swathes of agricultural land is White house farm. A picture-esc building that optimizes England’s countryside. But despite its stunning location, inside the farm on this particular evening, life was anything but perfect. In the early hours of the morning of the 7th of August, a crime would take place that still divides opinion nearly forty years later. A family was ripped apart, and many of them were left dead. And multiple allegations of police incompetence. But who committed the crime?

It was always obvious to me that he used his sister's mental state to get rid of the whole family. So sad, on so many levels.
The fact is there is no evidence against Jeremy. He was stitched up by corrupt police and his adoptive family so they could steal his inheritance. His case is now before the Criminal Cases Review Comission who will sent it to the court of appeal.
If you bother to examine the evidence much of which was hidden from the court, it is clear Jeremy Bamber is the victim of the worst miscarriage in British legal history.
Sheila was not shot twice when police discovered her freshly deceased body. There is proof she was alive when Jeremy was with the police out side. There is proof that Jeremy’s father Neville phoned the police at 8.26 am to tell them that “His daughter Shiela was going berserk with one of my guns”.
Jeremy called the police at 8.36 after his father had called him.
These calls are in police logs not made available at trial.
The house was locked from the inside. There is no way Jeremy could have entered and left after algegedly killing his family yet leave no trace!
I agree. The “scorned wife,” or was it his girlfriend? Either way, she gave them information that they could then carry out to find evidence to support the possibility that this was all a lie. Details she tipped them off to, should they have been legitimate, would’ve proven his hand in the crime.

Has anyone looked at evidence? Most of it has been burned by the police, Essex police who are under investigation for many dodgy convictions.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm even paying attention to the actual story. The narrator's voice is like butter on toast. I often have to start over so I can pay attention because I feel like I'm in a trance. 😊 And THANK YOU for always respecting the victims. I watch tons of these videos and NO ONE does that. Slight error: you say that by law husbands and wives are not allowed to give evidence against each other in a criminal court in the UK. In fact, they cannot be COMPELLED to give evidence against each other; they can do so if they want to, however. It would be pretty grim for battered wives or husbands if they couldn't!

This case was handled really badly that’s why some people believe it’s a miscarriage of justice.
I agree that the investigation was poorly handled, but it still doesn't negate his guilt. He keeps saying that he has evidence that will exonerate him...30+ years later and he's still in prison so where's this "evidence"?. He has all these gullible people thinking he's been so hard done by, the police railroaded/framed him, advocating to free him yet he's still in prison. He's so convinced himself and others by his lies that he's innocent but he's definitely not so he's exactly where he needs to be ....prison and I hope he rots.

One thing that doesn't seem to have been mentioned was Jeremy saying his dad called him saying Sheila had gone crazy. He was found slumped over in a chair. Aside from the fact that I don't think you'd call your son if your life was in danger (you'd call 999), who makes a phone call like that then sits down? To me it seemed from the position of his dead body that he'd been caught by surprise.

Agree, whoever did it had to have caught him off guard. He didn’t call his son cause his son was the one committing the crime. Plus look at his face. It says it all.
Nevill and June were shot in bed. The killer fled downstairs to reload. Nevill despite being badly hurt pursued the killer. He had a scuffle in the kitchen, with the killer using the butt of the rifle to overpower him. He was then subsequently shot a few more times in the head.

The first red flag was it for me... who calls a regular police number when there's an emergency? Jeremy. All the red flags after just help to solidify his guilt.
Maybe it was a programmed button? It’s possible that he just hit the “police” button, if there was one. I know my phone used to have one.
There was no 111 in those days, just the local police station or 999. If rural the obvious thing to do is ring local.

I think it's obvious that Sheila didn't commit this crime and I believe 100% that Jeremy is guilty. His behavior after his family's death was despicable and indicative of a psychopath.
He owned a gun with a silencer but the police had to wait 2 hours because they had no guns.
It's so stupid. Even if UK police officers normally don't have guns on them, they knew ahead of time that guns are involved.

Shot herself twice with an impossible-to-reach trigger, took off the silencer, somehow went to hide it in a cupboard whilst not leaving a trail of blood, took her bible, lates down and died… Oh and there was ONE of her fingerprints. Without the idiot who grabbed the gun, aaaaaall the other fingerprints were his. He clearly didn’t match correct emotions at the burial, didn’t call emergency services, accused an innocent plumber, fled the country, had the motive of money, always been a jackass with his family and told everyone he hates them… But suuuuuuure his sister was the culprit bcs she was mentally ill. Not violent. Ill. Yeah, tons of doubt 🙃
ALSO just fyi but if you shoot someone who is already deceased, they don’t bleed. The heart no longer pumps blood and as a result shooting someone after death will not cause dripping of blood, especially since the heat of the bullet partially cauterises the skin. That’s one of the indicators that someone was shot after death! So even if there was a second wound caused by an officer there, you would clearly see the difference.
Was there evidence that the silencer was used during the shooting?

This is a side note but not all boarding schools are strict and unpleasant. I had a private school education and I boarded from 14-18. It was a home from home. There are a lot of rules but they’re designed for you to have a good work/life balance and to minimise disruption. Your parents are paying a lot of money for you to have the kind of education that will open doors for the rest of your life, and the school stakes its reputation on your success.

I agree. I went to a boarding school from 16-18. At the time my mother and I couldn't share a civil word. The calm, positive and creative atmosphere did wonders for me. It was a co-educational school. I had brothers so it worked really well for me. And my relationship with my mother was hugely improved.

I agree. I went to boarding school in the US from age 13-18. My family moved a lot, and a couple of decades later I still feel like I'm going home when I go back there for Alumni Weekends. It was a stable place in my life and a great experience.
We will never know the truth unless Jeremy comes clean. If he was innocent why did he take off to Amsterdam to sell off his family stuff? Those poor innocent boys, they are the worst casualty
I remember this case well, and at the time thought Jeremy was guilty. Now having seen the video, I'm even more convinced because he come across as a charming psychopath. It's such a pity that no attempts were made to trace telephone calls. For example, when and where did he receive the call from his father to say his sister had gone berserk. Also, where was he located when he called the police office. Technology has changed much since then, and perhaps that type of evidence was just not available, or given any thought.
In 1985 DNA, Tracing calls etc etc were very difficult and DNA was in its infancy.
I've always wondered whether there *was* a phone call from his Dad.

I agree. Cops need to get in touch with the telephone company... for call log details. That shouldn't be hard to do. Am sure that information can be available. Cops were very careless in how they handled the scene of crime. They need to take notes from American cops.
It boils down to how does someone shot themselves twice when committing suicide. The coroner's report is what matters. What a police officer says doesn't count.

He thought the idea of Jeremy as the murderer was "almost too incredible to believe" based on his findings at the post mortem. He also detailed that two shots to a person in a case of suicide is not unlikely as he had seen four or five cases in his time, and 1985 was relatively early in his career. Dr Vanezis is now a mature Professor and leading Home Office Pathologist.

And if he was shot a number of times already, how would Sheila manage to do this? According to Jeremy, Nevill was aware that Sheila had a gun, but it was only a low-power rifle, not a shot gun. So given that he was ready for her, how could she shoot him a number of times with a rifle without the element of surprise and also beat him up? According to her husband, she wasn't even a gun person. Google her picture, she was tiny, former anorexic model, and Nevill was a big guy. (there are also many other reasons why Jeremy's version is not even remotely credible)

He is innocent, there's zero DNA evidence and he's been tested by hundreds of doctors and he's not a psychopath or sociopath.
I feel like the real answer lies in the silencer. Today’s forensic technology should be able to verify if it has her blood on it. That and further investigating if her wounds would have allowed her two shots. Unfortunately, it really does seem like it could go either way.
Suppressor, silencers are not a thing, you cannot silence a shot only suppress it. It’s not like the movies a suppressed shot is still quite loud though even without a suppressor you normally won’t hear shots if you’re not expecting them it’s a phenomenon.

This would have been a more clear-cut investigation leading to his rightful conviction if it hadn't been for the initial botched investigation by the Police. The lead officer was so blinkered and obsessed with the murder/suicide explanation. If it hadn't been for his sergeant doggedly pursuing this he may well have got away with it.
We had a case in NZ where a family was massacred. The only one who survived was one of the children who was doing a paper run at the time. He was taken into custody and convicted of the crime. The family were very troubled and apparently dysfunctional but there was so much speculation and not enough evidence. Eventually, after years in jail David Bain was released and compensated thanks to someone who vouched his innocence all along. This case is a bit different but without absolute evidence, it can still remain a mystery, even though it points to the son

David Bain's last trial not-guilty verdict was a triumph of celebrity worship over logical evidence analysis and common sense, and as a result he got a hefty payoff from your government who didn't want to waste any more taxpayers' cash fighting never-ending court cases. There was far more incriminating evidence against David Bain than there ever was against Bamber, but both imo were guilty of the murders of their respective families. Checkout Pat Brown's combined video examination of the Bamber and Bain cases. She reaches a similar conclusion.

If there were 25 shots fired, there’s no way every single family member just sat there after hearing multiple gun shots, hence the silencer had to of been used, he’s guilty!
Silencers don't actually 'silence' a gun. It's still pretty obvious to anyone nearby that a firearm is being used.
Silencers don't silence shots completely they barely work actually.
Silencers work in a sense of a grenade being muffled. The sound of gunfire is still heard regardless. Silencers mainly mute the "shockwave" sound of normal gunshots. Therefore using a silencer would not allow people further than 100 yards from hearing it.

For anybody curious, "silencers" aren't actually that effective. It's actually called a suppressor, and gun shots are still fairly loud. The main thing they provide is hearing protection, not magically making gun shots silent as you see depicted in movies.
Yes, if you have a 22 subsonic bullet, it's extremely quiet, but that's the only one.

Exactly! I'm sure Jeremy did it, but the courts argument that the Police would have heard the shot is ridiculous because they could have been shot before the Police got there.
@@orchadorkification I'm not sure about recoil, but suppressors are pretty heavy so I'd assume that has a significant impact.
However the difference in sound is enough to not cause an alarm in others, especially on a farm or in a large house. I've seen stories where people slept through a regular gunshot so entirely possible the silencer is the reason some adults where caught off guard by Jeremy.

Well, that's been my understanding after being hospitalised for depression in 2000, and then again in 2014. In both instances, I needed multiple ECT procedures.
I'm not ashamed of it, in fact, I'm proud that it was the consequence of being a loving & caring person, that I became disillusioned by society's apathy, greed, & selfishness.
Something I'll never forget is that all of the residents were supportive of each other, they never discussed the reasons behind why we were there. ❤

The narrator seems to contradict himself. Anyhow, it's very tiring and stressful to keep pleasing the children, there's gotta be some limits. When you stop pleasing them, they'll go against you someday. This is why I never adopt kids, imo.

Well, that's not true 100%. I researched a cpl cases where it took 2 or more attempts. Unlikely, uncommon but very possible. Nvr assume, especially concerning something so huge.
Some suicides with guns have to shoot themselves more than once so it's not concrete evidence.
It was deemed impossible for her height & arm length & the position of the wound's to have shot herself once with this shotgun let alone twice.
It was a .22 and a neck shot. a .22 long rifle isn't going to just kill you instantly. People have been shot in the heart with .22s before and lived

Yes, how convenient for Jeremy that his sister goes crazy in the middle of the night when there are no witnesses and at the farm where there is a gun that Jeremy loaded, and while every member of the family is together, except for Jeremy. How convenient also, that his father provides him with the name of his killer and then gets killed. How convenient that Nevill didn't phone anyone else, didn't phone Sheila's husband, didn't phone friends or neighbours, didn't phone for medical assistance. How convenient that the only person who claims to have spoken to one of the victims is the one person that would benefit from their death

there w asa mini series about this case realeased in 2020 and it was excelent! i have no doubts that Jeremy did it, he was (still is) a narcisist, i recommend watch the mini series, excelent actors and the story is very well portrayed, also is very interesting to see the perspective of the cousin who was living with Jeremy after the deaths, and how hard the police was trying to catch him , even if they didn't made a good work with evidence and stuff, they have their eyes on J the whole time!
One major part of the story is the gun had to be reloaded twice during this killing spree. Sheila had almost no experience in ever firing a gun and had never shown any interest in guns. There had been a struggle between the father and the assailant , the father was 6ft 3 and 200lbs and a farmer well used to physical work Sheila was 5ft 8 and 105 lbs and a model.
It was possible dad was simply too shocked to defend himself.

It was not impossible at all as Nevill Bamber had been shot a number of times already, overpowering him would have been easy. New testimony has also surfaced from both the doctor at the scene and the pathologist, Dr Vanezis, who noted that he "did not find it surprising that woman of that build, in possession of a weapon possibly in a deranged stated, could cause the injuries present." When later asked if he thought that Jeremy had carried out the killings he stated that Sheila Caffell would have needed to have been drugged beforehand to lay down so peacefully (but tests showed that she had not been). He thought the idea of Jeremy as the murderer was "almost too incredible to believe" based on his findings at the post mortem. He also detailed that two shots to a person in a case of suicide is not unlikely as he had seen four or five cases in his time, and 1985 was relatively early in his career. Dr Vanezis is now a mature Professor and leading Home Office Pathologist.

I don't think this case was proven. Would the gun function if the silencer was not on it? If so, I don't see how the silencer being in another room means anything. The girlfriend seems like a scorned lover to me.

I am just saying that a weapon and a silencer can be in the same location without them being used every time the weapon is used.
So the step you missed is how they determined it was used in this instance. Without that it is still feasible for her to have used the weapon for self deletion.
Also both times in the neck is not descriptive enough since the first time could have missed things that would have resulted in instant death and explained why she would have done a second shot.

A little late to the party, but...no. Essex Police kept records (written) of all calls to them, but that's all. There is a call from the "dad" to the police at 3:26am stating Sheila had gone berserk, then exactly 10 minutes later, the call from Jeremy comes in. The phone numbers are different, so it is proof he was at home at the time he made that call. However, he only lived 5 minutes away from his parents. That time of the morning, no traffic, he could easily have made both calls after killing everyone in an effort to set up his alibi. On that note, how he arrived at the same time as the police has never sat right with me; he's 5 minutes drive away, but he doesn't arrive until the police do over 90 minutes later? Yeah, he called the direct line rather then 999 so that accounts for the police delay, but if you really are the concerned child, don't you drive the 5 minutes to your parents house and find out what the hell is going on?
I'm pretty sure it was Jeremy. He may included his sister in a plot against his parents and then killed her for the money, but I also think there wasn't enough evidence to convict him especially after the botched job of the police.

It’s highly unlikely that a female killed her own family and then shot herself twice in the upper body for numerous reasons, particularly that females rarely commit this type of crime and rarely kill themselves with firearms and when they do they rarely shoot themselves in the face. The son has all the characteristics of the type of individual who commits these types of crimes.

Police searched the house for weeks and didn't find a silencer. Jeremy never went back to live at the farm and it was only when his relatives got back in that a silencer was 'found'. Jeremy was stitched up.
I think he did it. I mean the circumstantial evidence paints a very convincing picture. However… I’m shocked that they locked him away without any concrete/smoking gun evidence. It’s scary to think that a person can be locked away on the basis of statements from a partner who’s been spurned and may have ulterior motives…

He left his loaded rifle. Ok, but the Anschutz .22 rifles I have found online have average magazine capacity at 5 shots. So he also left multiple magazines with his rifle, and Sheila, in a frenzied state, was able to keep reloading and reloading and reloading to shoot her family that many times? Nope.
His actions after the murders surely make him look guilty, that girlfriend is as suspicious as he is, but the Police messed up this case so bad the conviction is doubtful. Either way, I don't think they will ever release him and the whole truth will never be known.

The initial telephone calls should have had been investigated thoroughly, no, but the police closed the case even before it had started with hearsay evidence. Jeeeze, even in 70's and 80's, all sudden deaths were investigated to confirm the circumstances.
