The Corolla is minimum $10k more than the Rallye Yaris. It's more practical but it's also ~200kg heavier. It doesn't get the carbon roof like the Yaris in Australia and it's not a homologation special. I love the look of the Corolla but the Yaris is an absolute bargain in comparison.
As an American, the GR Corolla was the only option I had, but I'm really glad Toyota didn't leave us with the short end of the stick and gave us something at least on par with the Yaris. I'm loving my GR Corolla.

@@aromaz1707 yes, absolutely. Toyota dealers in Mexico have GR Yaris'. Doug Demuro reviewed one that someone in California owns, in which, he went down to Mexico, bought it, and came back with it. Like any imported car, it's not easy to get them registered and legal... but if you have dual citizenship, no problem.

@davothegreat9990 just because other cars are quicker doesn't mean that this isn't fast as well. It's pretty quick, faster than your average sedan you see on the road every day, especially around the track. Not to mention that it's fun to drive as well.
I was fortunate enough to own both a GR Yaris Rallye and a Morizo GR Corolla. I sold the Morizo and kept the Yaris mostly because I could felt the weight deficit in the Corolla and also the width on mountain roads. Also the Yaris body design is very bespoke compared to the Corolla which is, let’s face it, just a standard Corolla with a few wider bits attached and the front guards flared out. Having said that I wish you could buy a Yaris with the Morizo gearbox and engine as Toyota has certainly stepped up the refinement and that closer ratio from 2nd to 3rd in the Morizo is a peach. As are the stock wheels. Other than that though, I’m happy with my decision, especially given the rarity of the Morizo which in itself made me feel reluctant to modify it. BTW I did test drive the GTS Corolla and that felt like absolute crap compared to the Yaris.
US here, i'd take the Yaris every time vs. the obese corolla cousin. i hugely prefer smaller vehicles, sadly the opposite is true here for many people.

I think he's missed the nerdy rally things the GRY has that make it such a unique car: the flimsy lightweight front and rear 'bumpers', the cut outs ready for the front brake ducts, the cut outs under the bonnet for aftermarket suspension towers, the lightweight 'parcel tray', the afterthought 'trim' on the inside of the rear hatch, the graduations marked on the suspension for adjustment, the list goes on. And, as for the driving position, well, it suits some and not others. Suits me fine.
American here who owns a Mk3 Ford Focus RS. To this day, I am still incredibly annoyed that Toyota opted to not sell the GR Yaris in North America. Objectively, the GR Yaris is the about the closest thing to a street-legal rally car that you can get. Small turbo engine, manual gearbox, and all-wheel-drive in the smallest car that Toyota could fit it into. It's like the Fiesta RS that we Ford guys have always wanted but Ford has never bothered to produce.
Sadly, they both exist but not in the same countries. UK only getting the Yaris, USA only the Corolla. This lack of options must frustrate as I would love to try the Corolla, but only have the Yaris option. No sure why manufactures do this. Wouldn't it be great if as an individual you could deal direct with the manufacturer and order what ever car in their line up you want then they just send the car to your local dealership.
The auto would ruin this car in my opinion. There's nothing worse than having a quick car ruined by the boredom of an auto. It's the same with the supra, Toyota released the manual so people could have the fun they wanted
If the auto becomes a reality it will be rally-derived and shift faster than the manual car and could be easier on fuel if the 8th gear is longer than the manual.
I prefer the GR Corolla GTS, so I got one. But I do love the Yaris too provided it is the Rallye version with the front and rear LSDs I just couldn't find one at the time of purchase and Toyota offered me one so I grabbed it. As a purely technical capability loving person, the homologation built for WRC does not interest me except for the fact that I am happy it happened. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to buy one of these awesome cars.
With respect, if this is an Australian review then your viewers need to ensure they compare the GR Corolla to the GR Yaris Rallye as it's called in your country. I remember reading an odd English review on them and they described there GRC as "everything you need in a hot hatch" and the GRY as being "everything a hot hatch can be" - which was an odd way to describe the GRY but I get his point... I'm just thankful I could & did secure a JDM one & ship it out when they were brand new. Personally regarding the corolla, I think unless you somehow manage to score a rare JDM market GRMN variant. The Corolla will never be a future gem to have in your shed.

Goodluck getting a Corolla.. Australia are only getting 700 of the 2023 model.. (2 cars per Toyota stealership) And there is a waiting list longer than your arm.. A friend of mine was on the waiting list since December last year. He was told that IF he got selected to buy it, he would be lucky to get the car in 10 month's from the day he paid the deposit... . Lucky for him christmas came early. He gets it on the 20th of this month.. For his sake i hope it lives upto the hype. 😂

We have zero support from Toyota. It took a year to get a press car just to drive for a week. We purchased our own GR Yaris from a dealership and has zero involvement with them.

Yaris is too short. GR Corolla, G25-660 turbo upgrade, Motec and all you see is the tail lights. I don't do "mountain driving".
