Today I am revisiting the mighty Toyota GR Yaris. I was one of the first journalists in Britain to get to drive one - and loved it, but didn't think that people would actually buy it! Happy to be proven wrong, and with the facelift incoming - how does the original stack up in 2024?

Can you steer with your belly? maybe you should walk more instead of driving everywhere.
Someone seems jealous…..it’s very unbecoming. Would love to see how visually appealing you are.
There’s been a few Koenigsegg Gemera deliveries here in America. But I’m talking about only a handful of them that I’m aware of. Koenigsegg canceled the three cylinder engine for the car too, they only make the Gemera with their V8 now. I actually think the 3 cylinder free valve engine had too many issues to release based on the way they’ve been trying to explain the situation with the Gemera. Anyways, deliveries have finally begun
59 cars owned including M cars Italian horse cars, my 2020 gr is the longest I’ve kept a car 44000 faultless miles so far, incredible car. Staggering grip, never a dull moment
Wtf is an Italian horse car? And you must have had some real shitters if this is your conclusion.
You never kept a car longer than 3 years?
Ditto
Are you upgrading to the facelift one?
Out of curiosity what kind of MPG are you getting?
Fun fact about the GR Yaris: It has a longer wheelbase than a Porsche 911 🙂
Regarding the few drawbacks of the Circuit Pack: It does have Apple Car play and Android Auto so navigation etc. is no problem at all. Also, I upgraded my speakers for about 350 Euro so it's now better than the convenience pack's stereo. I simply don't understand how anybody would get this car with the convenience pack, this car is literally defined by the torsen differentials.
Interesting, I have 911 and would of never thought that.
That Porsche fact made me laugh out loud
Wow
You know what. I drive a 2004 GT3 and was thinking of buying a GR Yaris as a daily…. 😂
A genuinely surprising and interesting fact. Thanks, random internet stranger!
This is true, I parked my 997 next to one and it was longer wb and a damn sight talker too 😂
I love my GR yaris, still look at it every day and get that "coooor what a car" feeling - and its never let me down
Yeeaahh Toyotas are brilliant!
My mum has a Yaris (albeit a 1.5td). I think it’s 14 reg, she’s owned it 8 years, it’s never let her down, she loves it and never wants to sell it. It still looks fresh out of the box too.
@@Dan23_7 Weird comparison tbh. This is a Yaris only in name. It shares almost no parts with a regular Yaris.
You "love" it. Thanks for your incisive informative comment here. Great. Well done mate.
@@Dan23_71.5td, You're having a lend aren't you Dan!! Hahaha
The map button does work if you connect an iPhone or Android, it will open your last used nav app in carplay or android auto. Who needs a built-in sat nav these days?
exactly so :)
I’ve had mine 3 years now and I’m still in love with it. It’s the bends, it’s just such a giggle driving through them in a rally car.
My over 80 years old landlord (rip) bought one 2 years before he died, and had the fun of his lifetime with that thing. This was a man, who had at least 100 cars and classic motorbikes. This car is truely special, thank you - toyoda san.
For anyone still unsure about this genesis of the GR, Chris Harris did an excellent review for Top Gear. Harry Metcalfe ordered one after his review. It’ll run rings around other more exotic/expensive machinery on a British A or B road, most of which have to give up at the first roundabout … or crash! It’s way more capable than my previous M4 Comp even if it lacks that car’s outright speed. A simply phenomenal car with incredible engineering. I waited over a year for mine and drove one for the first time on delivery day. It’s every bit as good as James report, which is why mine is a permanent fixture in the collection.
It cannot even beat an M2 on track so how is it more capable than an M4?
@@avishkarsingh744 Welllllllllll, i hate to piss on your parade M2 65k, M4 85k and if you watch say the nurburgring officianados in one against those.
It might lose but not by as much as youd expect.
Flip that to a tight cornercentric circuit and itll lose even less than you expected.
My car is just coming up to a year old and straight after I had run it in I did an alpine road trip with a number of like minded people. The car is comfortable on long motorway schleps and is an absolute riot on b roads and alpine passes. It’s punch out of corners along with the speed you can carry through them made other more expensive cars disappear in the rear view mirror. R8’s, DB9, M2 competitions, Ferrari 360’s didn’t stand a chance. It almost has too much grip as it just seems to taunt you with “is that all you’ve got” when you come out of a bend that you thought you were going fast into and it went round without a murmur. Bloody love it.
As someone who's owned a Yaris gr for a year and a bit and done 15k miles in it, I absolutely love it. Its so usable, and its so much fun, especially in the winter. Haven't done any mods apart from a milltek resonated exhaust, some Stedi lights in the front and OZ Ultraleggeras with cup2s as summertires. And everything always works on it. Even in -25 celsius it connects to apple car play without hesitation (all my other cars struggle when the electrics are cold), never had any rattles or noises from the interior. It just works. And its so, so fun to drive on every road. No matter if its hot summer tarmac, gravel or a snowy field.
You "love" it to. I guess you "love" Taylor Swift as well, tells me zip mate.
Are you OK @@Mexxx65
@@Mexxx65 what are you trying to convey? please claify.
@@KN-jw7tsLol. So you "love the car that you own. That does not also imply the car is brilliant of good or reliable. I mean I can "love" my best slippers, and that doesn't make them better!!

I'm still sad there isn't another 0 behind that number. Such a great channel.
@JayEmmOnCars I imagined you saying this as Alan Partridge for some reason lol😅
This review was the final nail in the coffin, you have turned me into a fan of yours. Idk why I found you off putting initially, but this was yet another brilliant review and now a loyal follower.
Glad I got you in the end :)
@@JayEmmOnCars you're good Jay, intelligent without the arrogance. A very rare trait these days...... keep it up lad 💯
James….I have been watching you for about five years now and recently you started to worry me after testing too many weird and mostly unobtainable old Japanese barges…I wondered what was going on but I am delighted that you are back on form again! As for the Yaris….I like Harry’s in red with Arun Gold wheels….my wife is not well so cannot stand the stiff ride but otherwise, this is the new Mini Cooper 1275S that we grey haired old dodderers used to play with when we were 26…but are not past everything despite popular expectations…you don’t HAVE to go bonkers when 70 is a memory!!😃😃😃😃
Had mine for almost a year & is my daily driver. Absolutely love it, makes every journey something to look forward to 😎
Love it. Ok got it mate.
Cheers for featuring the Yaris James! And most importantly well done on driving it properly and bashing that limiter! Top man 👍
Love the mods you’ve done. If you or Lucy might be interested in starring in a driving video on the GR, give me a shout! 😎
When all the initial hype happened I was still sceptical 🤨… it’s a lil Yaris, I just can’t lust over a car that LOOKS like that. Then a subscriber reached out and offered me to drive one… yep I agree 💯 with your verdict on this one. Amazing review James, reminding me yet again why you’re the TH-cam road testing GOAT 👏
Fantastic review once again! for anyone STILL unsure of getting one, I collected mine in May 2021 and was my second ever car, 18,000 miles of somewhat daily use later and I feel like I have found the elusive "forever car". Your review is the only one I felt that nails what it feels to drive and own one.
The most amazing thing is if you service it through Toyota every year you get 10years/100k miles of warranty AND they don’t care if you track it! Just incredible 🤯
Even 15 years and 150k in germany, I don’t know where else tbh.
@@Altesego1 wow that's even more incredible. No where else anywhere near, mostly a 1/3rd of that at most!
"Even 15 years", in Italy as well :) @@Altesego1
I drove one when I briefly worked at a dealership. I fell in love with it instantly. I still can’t afford one but it’s on my list should I ever win the lottery. The smile never leaves your face when you’re driving one of these.
I'm totally buying a Mk2 GR Yaris when the order books open in my country.
They artificially limit production to make their cars seem more desirable. The old GT86 only sold around 300 units per year in Germany, and the imported around 250 per year of the GR86. It's not that they would be able to sell much more, they just pretend those cars are rare.
@X8X8X8X8X8X8X That's not the reason. The reason is EU average fleet emission fines. Google it. If your average fleet of sold cars have emissions over X%, then they are fined 15.000euros per car above the limit, so they have to produce them slowly. Also, the GR Yaris is hand built, so they take a lot more time to produce than literally any other car Toyota makes currently, and they share assembly line with the GR Corolla, which they produce faster, because of no fleet emission penalties in the US.
@@X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X that then makes them rare 😂 so they are rare!
@@X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X Check out EU fleet emission rules... 15k euro fines if their average fleet emissions are over certain numbers.
Absolute downgrade from the original
Coming up to 3 years ownership. Preordered mine during the pandemic when the order books opened without seeing it as knew it would be a very special thing. No regrets at all except I need to drive it more as always puts a smile on my face every journey. I have a HKS Legamax, Eventuri, and a cheeky DTUK box on mine to give it a small bump in performance over standard and lots of nice noises. Love watching reviews like this and seeing testers genuinely smile and glow about a special car :)
Here in the USA we are just in our 2nd year of the GR Corolla and they are as sought after as ever. They are actually hard to get often selling over sticker price.
I am from the UK and I want one. Strangely they build Corolla's in the UK and race them in the British Touring Car Championship.
You can get them for MSRP now but only in white, the Red is always at least 5k over market
@@turbinator1990Just picked up a 2024 Supersonic Red GR Corolla Premium for MSRP in Canada. It is possible! Keep looking!
They have Four colors now 😊
@@tinhinnh I don't under stand why the circuit edition is limited to two colors now. What happened to the red and grey options.
It's awesome to see you come back to this! I remember when I first saw this thing it was the only new car that I've ever wanted. I finally got one June last year. While I did end up having to part with my Suzuki Cappuccino to get it and I do really miss that car am in LOVE with the GR. I've put a seat lowering kit along with a few other things similar to what's been done to this example and I'm so happy to call it my daily, especially at only 24 years old.
I live in Japan, and I sold my 996.2 GT3 for one of these. I love the Porsche, and it's a different kind of car for sure, but the sheer rigidity, the fun this thing is around corners is insane! And the running costs too - the only advantage I'd give the Porsche is the sound, seating position, and stability under braking.
The new version is (sadly) even better - and strangely, I'd prefer the 8AT than the Manual. Hats off to the lads at Toyota!
The best car review so far. Now I am even more excited about mine (getting in a few days) I LOVE driving so this should be a good decision, thank you my friend for telling what you felt during driving the car 👍💯💯 respect
Nice review. I would only say that the brakes are one of the stand out excellent features of this car. 12,000 miles on mine and they are still strong enough to detach your retinas, no sponginess at all in the pedal. It’s best feature though, is mashing the throttle mid corner on a sharp, filthy, soaking wet bend and feeling the lsds haul the car around and the engine fire you out under full power with all four tyres battling over who’s getting the most torque. Makes me chuckle every time.
Lovely video! I have owned my circuit pack for a year, and I am still in love with it. Exhaust, intake and a few exterior mods just made me absolutely love this gem of a car. In my opinion it needs those mods to truly come alive. I quite like that raspy 3-pot noise as well, and it produces lots of fun turbo-noises with an intake. The aftermarket support for these cars have taken off!
There are a few guys on the gr-zoo forums who have bought 2 of these, using one, and stuck the other in a garage for long-term. Crazy stuff.
I cant wait for spring to come around. I am going to sit outside looking at it with a cup of coffee after a long detailing session...
Cheers from Norway!
There's one of these parked near the grandparents house most times i visit.
It's always immaculately clean and i look at it fondly as a hot hatch fan☺️
Brilliant car. Had a test drive. (Not the circuit model sadly). Well worth every penny. Plus it’s a Toyota.
A spot on 3yr review.
I've had mine since December 2020 and it's my daily. I also have a 750hp 911 Turbo that was specifically built for mountain passes and there's very few roads where my 911 will beat my GR. It punches SO far above its weight class ❤
I had a go in my mates GR at Christmas. It was a horrible cold and wet day, but I couldn't even get the traction control to cut in such was the level of grip. The only time I lost a tiny bit of traction was under heavy braking for some flood water. Amazing amazing car, wish I could afford one!
It reminds me of the Toyota Conquest RSi that was released back in the early 90`s in South Africa...cheap (ish), basic layout, great seats but blisteringly quick for a 1.6...so good to see Toyota back in the performance game again!
This channel is getting better and better. Thanks from across the pond for my UK motoring fix
That exhaust note is very well considered on this style of car.
"very well considered". I read as crap then!
Sounds like a JZ
I just picked up mine today. 21 plate in met black. I love it …. It is just superb 👍
What a fantastic review! Been driving (ordinary) Yarises since 2001, just love them. Nothing Ever Ever Ever goes wrong! Each iteration is so far ahead of the previous version. Got a 2021 Icon doing 77mpg 🎉
Owned mine for three years now and only drive it on days out with the lads in their Porsches, AMG's, Ferraris and McLarens. The car is just astonishing in its ability to literally destroy anything and any badge on the right mountain road. The little nugget was scoffed at when I first brought it along but now it gets a little more respect. Incredible car. Can't wait for the new one
Would a mountain frog be better lol😊
Yeah he's on the money! I've had rally derived cars since my first car which instantly won my heart,a 1971 Twin Cam escort mk 1 ,
Its taken till now to equal.........
I booked a test drive at my local dealer, the day before I was about to go and drive (and subsequently put a deposit on) their demonstrator, your review went live. I naturally watched it. I will always remember your review, because it struck a chord with me. It's my kind of car, having always loved the GT4 from the 90s. I especially remember you saying 'nobody will buy one'. Then the rest of the press reviews came out and the world went bonkers for them.
Still love my GR. It's a forever car I think.
Just watched this on the back of the r8 review. Surely it’s all about happiness. And this is it. Good to see you smiling.
I overpaid for mine, it had 6k miles on it and still cost me a bit over retail. Regrets? Forget it. Glad I was able to get it.
i got mine used with 17k on it for 25k.
Love mine had it for over 3 years 32k miles. Had lot’s of nice cars over the years and the Yaris is most definitely one of the best. I bought it originally for a winter car as NOTHING I have ever driven can beat it down a wet, greasy B road which is my preferred driving environment. However it has turned out to be superb at everything doing track days, Welsh weekends, road trips, the ring etc. You never have to look at the weather forecast and worry about cup 2’s or rear wheel drive nightmares just thrash the bejesus out of it and laugh out loud. I have several friends with them and we drive spiritedly throughout the winter when all the garage queens are locked away (including mine). The car just opens up the whole year of driving pleasure and the harder you drive it the better it gets. If you are hovering on the fence and thinking of getting one just do it you won’t regret it. Good time to buy as well.
I've owned a Circuit Pack one since new, released during the gloomy covid days and it still puts a smile on my face 3 years later. The GR Yaris is the ultimate drivers car and it's a keeper. Even if I had the money for a grey auto Mk2 version my white Mk1 manual would have to sit along side it as it's too good to trade in! 😍
GR Yaris owner here. The Map button does work, with the phone connected. It does not have embedded navigation, it is Android auto / Apple car only
I ordered one when I was 21, having owned a Toyota at the time, however due to the salesman and 13 month wait I gave mine up and went to a manual M240i, I don't regret it but I'd still love one of these at some point
You’re BMW is 10 times the car of this.
@@Gaz_b1 I really don’t know if it is. I regularly drive both an E46 M3 and a GR Corolla and I would say that they are both fun in their own right but to me, the GR ends up being a better car because it is fun in ALL weather conditions.
Excuse me for asking, but how do you have enough money to buy a new (performance) car at 21?

In the very early 2000's I worked sometimes as an external contractor for Toyota. It was also there that I was working during the 9/11 attack. One of the office buildings in Belgium had a -4 level basement/carpark. You won't believe it but there were complete GrA teams parked, GT fours, ST205, vans, trucks..... also the Toyota GT1 from Le Mans and several other race cars. All still covered in war stripes, braeke dust and mud. Sadly it was the era before cellphones and cameras so you have to do it without pics.....
Thanks for the mention Jay 😎
Brilliant forgot how great you are ! Smiled all the way through that video ! Thank you
Jay, you're fantastic. I know you have an S2000 on Öhlins, so if you ever come to Los Angeles and want to drive that setup in our canyons, I would absolutely love to let you drive my S2000. I'll even guide you through all of the canyons in LA, from Malibu to the Angeles Forest to Mt. Baldy, so you can experience literally all of the best roads.
The original Focus RS wasn't a homologation special, it was just a low volume "halo" car, engineered by Prodrive. I was an EDS engineer on the program for short while and had the pleasure of following the slightly wider body of the RS going down the production line at Saarlouis for the entirety of the build (approx 6 hours) it caused several problems being both slightly too wide and slightly too low to transit though the stages smoothly, on a side note, most car production lines sound alarms if they stop, at Sarrlouis each line played a different piece of classical music, a very civilised way to trigger frantic activity to get things moving again 😁
3 best cars in the world right now: a) Honda Civic Type-R b) Toyota GR-Yaris c) Mazda MX-5
A used MX5 is the best value of them all.
@@johnr3150 which model
I got a GR Corolla over the weekend and I absolutely adore it.
In Australia the Civic Type R costs 50% more than the GR Yaris.
It's amazing that they're similar money in the UK. On launch the GR Yaris was $40k (now $52k) and the new Civic Type R costs $72k.
Had an uprated 1.9 pug gti growing up..that used to shift but this looks like another level..I now own a mk 1 T5 yaris..143k..Still solid as a rock..I love it..they just build great cars..
I have a JDM spec RZ version. A few points. First yes, the Civic Type R is as quick if not quicker down the country lane in the dry but I have to say the GRY is way more fun - lighter, more compact, more agile. I should know I used to own a CTR and in fact replaced it with a GRY. Secondly, I also agree it can get you into a lot of trouble than any other car I've previously owned. Its so much fun it just eggs you on - go faster, go faster, go faster - and then...... For sure there are compromises such as space and visibility but I think those are the consequences of being a rally car first, road car second - a true homologation special. Will I ever give it up? No way, its a keeper.
An amazing video as ever, perfectly timed for the facelift release!
My wife and I are U.S. based. We are currently in the process if getting our Italian citizenship for to sole purpose of living in Europe with a GR Yaris. I am a huge fan of homologated rally vehicles and currently own an 83' Renault R5 Turbo, 74' Lancia Stratos and a 97' Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution as well as the GR Yaris' cousin, the GR Corolla Circuit Edition. The Corolla is fantastic but its missing that key, homologated ingredient.... Imperfection. The Yaris is so desirable to me BECAUSE of its faults. It was designed for one purpose, and that purpose wasnt to have a big back seat or good outward visibility. It was designed to tear up rural backroads and leave unsuspecting Porsche "Club Members" egos in shambles. The GR Yaris is a hero car. A extraordinarily rare moment where a major manufacturer offered a homologated rally car to the public. It was an instant classic the moment it was offered. Now, off to brush up on my Italian...
Is the Toyota GR Yaris still worth the hype?
Yes!
Remember you saying you didn't think these would sell that well, fair play for addressing that, you've done 2 cracking reviews on these cars. You'll have to review the new one!
One car I never heard get slagged off is this beauty, so cool and especially the new ones with the new and improved gearbox etc. weapons for a 3 cylinder.
I'm 12k miles in to mine now. They are excellent B road blasters. the three cylinder engine sounds great with an aftermarket exhaust too.
I REALLY wanted one of these in 2021 all the dealers gave me a long waiting time. and me being me couldnt wait and bought a Mustang GT instead. I do love the Mustang but honestly speaking I wish I had waited for one of these. Harry and Lucy Keep it if you can guys. Amazing car and the bonus definitely a future classic. Great Review by the way.
Pretty crazy that this video was posted on the day I got rid of mines!
An absolute gem on the road, and deserves all the plaudits. It just gets a bit tough to live with as a daily, for what I wanted anyway. A proper 10/10 machine that is worth the hassle, youve just got to decide if you have the patience to put up with it.
Can I ask what makes it difficult to live with as a daily driver?
@@tillu731 This will sound stupid because it's a hot hatch but the general level of space is just so small. The boot is practically non-existent and the rear-seats may have well been converted into a cabin instead of trying to squeeze them in there. Also, British roads are just so crap in general now that you rarely get the chance to have fun with it unless you're on a b-road. Managing the throttle in traffic is a frustrating experience. The ride is also a bit rough unless you're on pristine tarmac, and the stuff suspension makes it a far from perfect passenger car.
It was purely a personal choice that I wanted something a bit more versatile, so ended up getting a Guilia.
All that being said, at the price you can get one at now, there's nothing better on the road for a driver's car imo. I don't imagine the facelift will be better enough to justify a 15k price hike from a used MK1 as well
Love your enthusiasm (and detailed knowledge). Thanks, man. Great review, as ever.
Entertaining, as always! Cheers and bravo from Montréal.
I wish we got the GRY in America. I own a GR Corolla and I’m in love with it, I can’t only imagine how the GR Yaris is in comparison. Would love to get my hands on one!
I saw one of these in a car park last week. It was the size of the brake discs and calipers that alerted my attention to it. After googling the specs, I couldn't believe it. 260hp in a Yaris!? 308 with a remap.
Great review and I can tell you enjoyed driving the Yaris. I was laughing when you compared the vehicular movement between it and the Audi 😆😆
Even though I am an Audi guy
I like them, i really do. I've owned an Evo Integrale for 20+ years so appreciate a car built for rallying. My only hang up is that I sometimes struggle to initially spot the difference from a standard granny shopper spec Yaris at first glance until you then realise the obvious differences. Does that really matter though when it drives that well...for me a little yeah. Great little car and nice to see companies like Toyota still building an homologation car. Cheers.
These squishy brakes are part of the Japanese cars charm. Have almost the same "bus brakes" on a Nissan Patrol 83' and on a newer Toyota LC 19'. Love the feel of precision, when you can stop a car without bobbing your passengers heads or spilling tea on your dash.
Cheers for featuring the Yaris James!!!!!
It´s an amazing little Car for little Money. You can afford it and you can tune it if you want!!! Good work Toyota. That´s History building and you have a lot of Fans all over the World inclusive, Germany!!!!
All hail Toyoda-san....The saviour of the enthusiast's car for the average person!!
I would love to try one someday, but the price still has a long way to fall yet,
before I can afford to get into one.
The cheapest I've seen so far is around €55k.
Over here in America we aren't so lucky but I'm absolutely loving my GR Corolla! It was nice they at least gave us the GRC as a consolation prize haha
I own a 2023 RAV4 phev. I love the car for it's practicality, have a golden retriever in the back, very very low fuel consumption and its great power when needed (302 hp). I've been driving Toyota's for 34 years now and love them. If i could afford it i would love a GR Yaris as a second vehicle. If i was single and i would definitely have one over the RAV4. I can but dream.
Intriguing review! I've been contemplating buying a car of my own, and this certainly appears to sate my petrolhead desires on one end... The other end being a cruiser such as an XJ.
Speaking of millionaires dailying GRs, I'm reminded of Mr JWW and his modified orange GR Yaris. That featured a number of thorough modifications, such as the seats, brakes and wheels, and I think he had the rear seats removed to make room for a roll cage.
JWW is a nut. Takes it a reasonably priced sporty performance car. Then takes it to one of his "mates", and proceeds to turn it into a special one-off bespoke unicorn, equivalently priced to his new Rolls Royce!!
This is the only car since I got my mk2 focus rs over ten years ago I'd consider buying and thats quite a compliment from me
I've never driven a GR Yaris, but I really want to. I think it's a terrific thing. There is a ying and a yang to the business model that helped Toyota to develop it though. "Let's stick a Toyota badge on a BMW Z4, and call it a Supra, with the money we save we can develop the GR Yaris. No-one will notice"
Everyone noticed. But the Supra is the best looking BMW currently on sale.
I've owned 2 cars in my 22 years of driving. A 2002 Yaris 1L, and a 2011 Urban Cruiser 1.4L diesel which I still have. Both are great fun to drive altho I adore driving my Urban Cruiser. I find the smaller engine cars so much fun to drive. I know neither is this car but I just wanted to give some love to the smaller engined Toyotas.
Any Scots out there who are familiar with the westbound M876 slip road with the 90 degree bend merging onto the M80 filter...Urban Cruiser is such fun driving that
Another great vid thanks for sharing it’s helped me in considering a fun car option for my next car. Keep the vids coming 👏
Can't speak as to their on-road liveability, but they're bloody awesome on a track.
Approaching 3 years of wait after I ordered mine in June 21’ 😂.
This video gave me confidence again that the wait will be worth it. There is just nothing else like it in the market. Apart from the new model, of course. 😅
Absolutely love mine. Love taking it to my local track and thrashing cars that cost 3 times as much! Its quite amusing.
I'm 30 months in on mine. Still utterly amazing.
Amazing car, more companies should do cars like this. Imagine if Hyundai made an AWD version of the i20N and essentially made a road going version of their rally car. Same goes to Skoda and Ford.
Great video as always ❤
My Litchfield flavour GR Yaris is in the Goldilocks Zone : 330BHP, not too much power, just right. It's such a savage and on fast roads really comes alive. I will take this over my Porsche all day long.
Seems us owners are out in force! I've had mine for 3 years now and still love it, I've slowly modified it with more to come this year as it keeps it interesting for me to tweak it bit by bit. The main thing I'll say is the DNA Racing seat lowering kit is a great piece of kit (sturdy at 6kg) and made a big difference for me as I'm 6'3" and with a helmet on it's a bit crampt.
Glad you still have a solid opinion on it - interested to see what you make of the facelift/mk2 or "the new one" when they come out over here.
Couple of years ago these were €70k in Ireland, I couldn't believe it at the time but now it makes sense why 😂
Still my dream car after an impressive run in WRC.
love the corduroy, good review!
in Australia we have all the features in the rally
I have one alongside a 997, which I think makes a decent pair with differing characteristics. Sometimes I take the 911 for an early morning blast, other times the GRY. It really does love to corner hard!
I think it looks adorable it’s not a classic mini like I want but if I had a drivers license I’d buy it
I’m sat here watching thinking that place looks familiar 🤔 then realised it whittlebury! Then you turned around in Akeley!! Where I grew up!
The Yaris is on my top of my daily list if I ever had the money 👍👍
Sounds like the GR is as good as facelifted Yaris MK1.
I had a 2004 Yaris 1.3 Blue and that was a rocket. Revving over 4000 rpm and the engine got a whole new life as it sounded like the engine had a compressor attached to it. One of the best cars I ever had.
Another great review. Thanks. It also has a 10 year warranty. Keep thinking I want one but I but love my slow 86s waggling tail.
I want a Yaris Gr circuit so bad my favourite car , I love it
It's a fine car, but I'll stick with my 15 year old VW Scirocco 2.0Tsi GT stage 1. I have everything you could want, 260bhp, heated leather sports seats with lumbar support, Adaptive Chassis Control, Pan-roof, relatively practical rear seats... still looks great IMO and okay the tax is heading towards e800pa but that's a price worth paying. Bought it for £,5,500 3 years ago, ironically it's probably going up in value. Anyway, I'll stop rambling - just saying, you can get a lot for your money if you don't need the latest thing
Its not just the latest thing, its true rarity in this day and age. They dont make cares like this anymore.
@@KN-jw7ts yes understeery vw
hehehe, never really noticed tbh, Mr Micra@@nissanoo0393
My circuit pack / Rallye is worth every bit of hype 👌 what a car
Funny how the first scenes with the exhaust note comes up as “music” when you have subtitles on
If I didn't already have my S1 then this would be the next best thing.
I own an S1 too, wondered how it compares with the GR Yaris?
S1 criminally underrated affordable B-Road Blaster!!!!
(And I have noticed most S1 owners aren't madly in love with the thing, like being madly in love with Taylor Swift.)
I have 3 S1’s (one road car & 2 track cars) & the total cost is less than one new GR Yaris. So far I haven’t come across a GR Yaris owner who can match the pace of the S1 on a track. It would be great to see someone like Chris Harris or Harry Catchpole compare the 2 cars in similar spec. Even just with one LSD in the front, the S1 is much more capable than factory.
@@sunsetgarage755 Nice - what modifications have you carried out to your road S1 ? Only I’m hoping to up the power in my S1 very soon, which I only use on the road. Thanks
