2023 Toyota GR Corolla vs Honda Civic Type R vs Hyundai Elantra N // DRAG RACE + LAP TIMES

  • The new Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition ($53,900 in Canada, $42,900 in the US) has to make a name for itself amongst its stiff competition. Today that means a drag race with some worthy contenders - the Honda Civic Type R ($46,200 in Canada, $37,895 in the US) and the Hyundai Elantra N ($39,653 in Canada, $32,150 in the US). The Gr Corolla may have the AWD traction advantage off the hop, but the Civic is lighter and more powerful, and the Elantra has a torque advantage.
Will James be able to get ahead and stay ahead in the GR Corolla? Or will Thomas in the Elantra N or ultra-focused Kartson in the Civic Type R be able to overcome and win? Anything can happen in a drag race, so watch to see what happens! We hope you enjoy the episode. Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE!
Thank you to Derick @drckaglr_fk8 for loaning us his Type R
And to @initial.r for making it happen!

DCT wouldn’t even be fair. There are other videos on it already and the EN with DCT beats the Type R in a drag not roll by Samlegions video. The NGS boosts and quick shifts make a huge difference. A guy made a video in the Veloster N DCT beating a GR Corolla in a roll race so theres that too. The GRs AWD will win a drag hands down all the time tho. Anyway EN is an underrated beast with DCT. In manual…. At least its more fun i guess.

Elantra N reminds me of a Megane RS in desirability aspect, when it comes to the European market. It's not that desirable, not that well known, but it destroys the competition (talking about the Megane mostly) when it comes to the overall driveability, car feel, track use (Golf R, Audi S3, Golf GTI Clubsport etc) Hyundai might not be yet on this level, we need to see more tests of course, but they're on the right track in my opinion, you get the point hopefully.

desirability changes very very fast. Demand on these new hyundais are insane. this all changed with Ionic 5, EV6, g70, gv70, veloster N, telluride/palisade, and now elantra N. Don't forget N Vision 74 which is the hottest concept in a decade.
Young people really don't know how bad Hyundais were. They are now looking this brand as a shiny new hot brand people can't stop talking about.
i'm in my mid 40s and i grew up in an era where you wouldn't want to be caught dead in hyundai/kias. i was civic/integra boy ricer at heart. now i want this N so bad. if you asked me if i would ever desire a korean car just 5-6 years ago then i would laugh at you and call you names.

I recently purchased an Elantra N, very happy with it. At least in my province: Type R 53K, Corolla 55K, Elantra N 40K. I'm happy with it's performance at that price. The Civic Si manual is 37K here, with a much worse warranty if you're worried about such things.

Thank you guys for the consistent and quality content. The type r is cool, but the new one looks so much better. The GR Corolla is inherently cool because its getting 300hp from a 3cyl engine. For the price comparison the Elantra N is in a different stratosphere. It has better lap times, respectable drag/roll race results, it is a first gen variant, has top tier tires, is the best sounding 4cyl ever potentially, and the dual clutch is noticeably quicker...oh and the Elantra N comes fully loaded. I am excited to purchase one for its performance and I am a former charger 392 owner!
