Why should they be paid? It’s minor hockey and the teams already pay for their equipment. If they want a paycheck, they gotta work their ass off to make it to the nhl
I cannot believe people still think Draisaitl is an “underrated” player. He’s legitimately a top 5 talent who is a monster whenever he has the puck. Every time he enters the zone expect something to happen
Rob - your videos have gotten better and better. Love the graphics and transitions. Also - “Chaput and Megna - greatest final moment in the 3rd period clutch Canucks in the Willie D era.” - Willie D
I grew up and live in Erie, PA and we love our Ottos man. I’ve gotten to watch so many great players - McDavid, ROR, Greg Mckegg (jk but love ya Kegger). Love your videos brother!!
reily farr Brinksy can shoot the puck like few players I’ve ever seen. He tore up the OHL with that release, and a 40 goal NHL season shows that was no fluke
CHL players I feel are compensated just fine for the play. Players who are elite move on to make big bucks at the nhl and ahl level, and those that don’t make it big have free years of university waiting for them, while also being able to showcase there skills for the university’s hockey team in Canada!
I think the issue is that the WHL contracts are pretty binding. They force you to lose NCAA eligibility, and some teams make millions. I agree that university tuition is a huge payment though
@@DurtGurty Funny you mention that because I am actually going to school in Lethbridge, and we just lost our team a couple weeks ago due to "budget cuts"
CHL players should get payed enough to not go broke because it's hard to work when you have so many games per year, but they shouldn't get payed much IMO. Great video!
They are mostly rich suburbs kids. If their families can afford for them to play hockey from the time they were in diapers, I'm pretty sure they can survive a few months in the closest thing to pro hockey. We ain't talking NCAA here
About Kulda, he signed with Dinamo Rīga but the timing wasn't good because the team started to struggle and coaches were changing rapidly so there realy wasn't anyone who gave him a chance. That's why there are barely any players under 21 in Dinamo because we're constantly just figting to not be last in the league. It isn't that lavian rookies can't develop like for example Rihards Bukarts started his pro career in Rīga but was put on the bottom six then he went to the Czech league and became one of the best players in the league.
Sorry it was supposed to be Roberts Bukarts but Rihards also played in Dinamo but he went to Germany but he hasn't been as successful as his older brother.
I thought the CHL did get paid a nominal salary. I am under the impression that players opted either college (non-salary) or some junior league (paid). Goes to show how much I know. Kudos for saying Di Pietro right. A bunch of Anglos in my life have mangled its pronunciation.
No, I’ve worked with the IceDogs in the OHL and while the average OHL team (probably similar across the CHL) makes anywhere from roughly 800K-1.5M with some exceptions, and all the teams are looking to literally just break even. Some make a profit yes, but a lot don’t. The CHL teams unlike the NCAA aren’t making millions and owners are not getting rich off the backs of youth players and pocketing the money. Ntm the teams are working with hockey companys (CCM, Bauer, etc) to supply the players with all of their equipment including Sticks which a player will go through double digits in a month sometime and visors which are usually replaced a few times a year. So if players want to be paid then they should have to buy their own equipment to... you can’t have your cake and eat it to as the saying goes, meaning, you can’t get literally the best opportunity to develop in the best youth development league in the world Where you’re trained as a pro and given equipment as a pro, and billeted, and fed and etc etc. and then turn around and ask to be paid... it’s nonsensical. The players get $50/month as it is ... if they moved that to ... $100/month then maybe I’d say it’s a doable pay scale but any higher and there will 100% be teams folding. (At $100/month that’s $1200/yr x 25 players = $30K extra a yr for the team)
Thanks for your input! And it’s definitely a conundrum. Some teams are very profitable, and could be paying decent salaries, and some teams lose money every season. I believe they are going to win the case for minimum wage, as the class action suit unravels here, but you can definitely make a great case. And with the rise of Junior A leagues in Canada where you keep eligibility for NCAA, maybe that’s the next wave.
Rob Talks Hockey Oh for sure, I mean I see the players side of things at times because some teams do make a decent buck off of their name (ala London Knights) but on the flip side of things the smaller teams and teams in smaller markets (ala Erie Otters) wouldn’t be able to afford salaries. Tbh I’m a bit torn on the subject because should the players win and X amount of $$ now needed for these teams to pay a roster you’ll start to see the league charge more for everything including tickets which in some markets (Steelheads) charging $50 for a single ticket may not be worth it for the fans who could turn to an alternative (again in Toronto with the Marlies) and you’d see Missy most likely fold after a few years. At the end of the day having worked in the league I really do feel for both sides, players want to earn some money in exchange for being entertainment and commuting to that junior program and the owners want to break even and not have to fold teams. If they can come to a CBA of sorts where the amount earned is partially based on teams (as a league because you’d then see the knights of the CHL buy all the good players) annual profits not just revenue and part on the basis of teams being able to stay afloat and lastly the players accepting of a rate they feel is reasonable then I think a CHL salary can be done. The level of how tricky that’ll be will be atleast 6-12 month after the court case of the players win to structure something.
Nah they live in the dream already. They play for big crowds, have free equipment, play the game for free and have a chance to show NHL scouts their skill. That’s a dream for hockey player.
When talking about Huberdeau, he says, " A solidified top 3 pick." You meant, " Huberdeau solidified himself INTO A BONAFIDE top 3 pick." Its guys like this who teach people English lol what a goof.
The player that ask to be paid are the worst joke in hockey history. They are all some nobody one guy litteraly played 8 games in the OHL. Some teams are losing money every year and are c,ose to bankrupt and now they have to pay theses guys. Shame
Rob Talks Hockey oh yeah no doubt he doesn’t need mcdavid. I’d have him 7-10, with Matthews and Stone. I think bread man and Marchand are just slightly better
Should CHL players get paid?
defenetly
Definitely not. The CHL is essentially a development camp. They should pay to play in the CHL if anything
A decent salary. Of course. As long as ppl pay to see them they deserve their piece of the cake.
Why should they be paid? It’s minor hockey and the teams already pay for their equipment. If they want a paycheck, they gotta work their ass off to make it to the nhl
Yes and they already have been getting payed and I don't think they are getting in trouble
Do the best 5th round pick or later from every nhl team
For Pittsburgh do Patric hornqvist because he was the very last pick in a draft
Gotta be sharp82 Pittsburgh did not draft hornqvist
@@evanspeice1009 sorry do him for Nashville then

Not a question of if they should pay their players, but when. They need to, or all the best players will take the ushl, ncaa route instead.
Great video, but the dominating isn't the only way to describe and amazing season.
big Flyers fan here, have the same style jersey but mine is a Danny Briere
