Torts started the hatred for JT, unrightfully so, guy would've played on the Devils just to get out of there. Loved seeing Torts get smoked out of the playoffs this year, what an overrated coach.
Miller was so underappreciated on the Rangers. I'm happy to see him finally getting respect but furious he didnt get to show his potential with the Rangers.
In NHL 15, I traded for Kevin Fiala who went from a med top 6, to a Medium franchise player. Grew to a 95 overall and ever since I’ve had nothing but respect for the guy and always thought he could be way better then what people thought he could do. So glad to see it’s finally happening!
It's awesome that Gillis turned Schneider into Horvat, but he still has to answer for why he didn't take the Edmonton package. Vancouver could have taken Horvat at 7 and brought at least two more assets into the organization. I think teams get way too caught up in not trading within their division. Edmonton wasn't winning without Schneider and they weren't winning with Schneider.
You couldn't get away with trading a potential franchise goalie intra-conference without catching some flack. Edmonton might have had the better package, but Vancouver played it safe going with Jersey's offer. You don't wanna be the GM that gives a team on the fringe the player that bumps you from the playoffs in your own conference.
If I was the GM of NJ I would have strongly considered immediately flipping Schneider to Edmonton for the higher package deal. It would have made Vancouver look like a bunch of clowns.
Great video. As a Bruins and Milan Lucic fan, the Lucic trade was a weird one. I loved him as a Bruin and was sad to see him go, but looking at what they got for him and how he in turn have developed, and with that contract, cant be mad about it. Now, what they got for him is in turn odd, because they got a 2015 1st overall pick, and martin jones, who they flipped into a 2016 pick. The 2015 pick was part of the infamous 3 straight 1st round picks Bruins had, where they picked Jake Debrusk, Jakub Zboril and Zach Senyshyn... What 3 players went after them? Barzal, Kyle Connor and Thomas Chabot. Not much further down is Konecny and Boeser. So technically we could (should) have traded Lucic for Barzal+ but thats not how things turned out.
These trades and your analyses massively enforces the fact that there is WAY more to a trade than just the stats. There's behind the scenes player behaviours, financial decisions, health and/or addiction issues, favors owed, etc.
Interesting tidbit on Fenton and fiala. He led the scouting for Nashville as assistant GM there so he actually had quite a bit of dirt on him. He didn’t scout Víctor rask though. He was mainly fired for how he interacted with staff
Pierre Luc Dubois was dominant in the Q. At 6’3” 205 at 18 years old and putting up well over a point per game plus having post season success and being known as a leader he was a sure top 5 draftee. A large frame centreman has way more value than a speedy winger. He was a top prospect and drafted accordingly.
@@DavidPringle-ep2jy Because of who was ranked ahead of him, it was definitely a surprise. I agree that he deserved to be in the top 3, but heading into the 2016 NHL draft Tkachuk and Puljujärvi were considered locks in the top 4
I think the Erik Karlsson trade by far had an outcome nobody predicted not in that Karlsson would struggle to stay healthy and be productive but nobody predicted that he would receive a whopping 11.5 million dollar contract for 8 years and see the Sharks bottom out giving the Senators a top 5 pick in this years draft making it an absolute steal of a trade for the Senators something nobody could have predicted
i was mad at first when the Hawks traded for Dylan Strome bc he hadn’t been a good player for Arizona but im happy now bc Strome has been good with the Hawks
For the Fiala trade, I didn’t think the move to get Fiala was bad, I just thought they could have got a draft pick added in as well. It really worked out well for Minnesota despite this.
i remember seeing JT coming to van i knew it was a good trade. great player for a young team thats playing out of there minds this playoffs im hype to see my fav team playing in the playoffs. been a long time Vancouver fan since i was young.
The Teravinen trade looked weird at first but ended up benefiting both sides which I’m pretty happy about. Considering we drafted Debrincat in the 2nd round👏👏
Re: Schneider & Oilers, it actually seems that Gillis wanted more from the oil as they were in the same division (1st (7th), 2nd + good prospect) but the oils declined, thinking dubnyk was better than schneider (at least at the asking price). I don't really remember myself but that's what a bunch of articles suggest when I was curious what they could've got instead. Re: 1st, it would've have mattered as they were going horvat regardless and Marcin didn't really pan out it would seem. That 2nd would've been nice though.
kahun for maatta. i hated it when it happened. but kahun has struggled, and was flipped to Buffalo. Maatta has proven hes a top 4 d-man here. he’s been good and the playoffs he was just amazing

Yes I’m a Montreal Canadiens fan We traded Alex Galchenyuk for Max Domi We traded Max Domi for Josh Anderson We traded Jaroslav Halak for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz We traded Mikhail Sergachev for Jonathan Drouin
Interested to know your thoughts on the Pens and Leafs trade that just went down. As Leafs fan, happy to be getting a first rounder but doesn’t make sense from a Pens perspective!
Knowing what goes on behind the scenes probably explains many of these "incomprehensible" trades. We now know Galchenyuk had a very bad coke problem, so they traded him before he tanked so they could at least get something good out of it.
JT Miller had flashes of brilliance with the Rangers, but AV really did not like playing him. He became AV’s scapegoat. I was pretty angry when he was included in the McDonagh trade to TB
I'm surprised that the Erik Karlsson trade wasn't on here. I feel like that will end up being a big win for Ottawa if at least one of Tim Stüzle, Josh Norris and Rudolfs Balcers becomes an elite player and Erik Karlsson's contact ends up becoming an albatross.
Pacioretty to Vegas for Tatar and Suzuki to Montreal. People were mad here at first, trading Mtl best scorer for Tatar and some junior kid. Turns out, Tatar pretty much matched Pacioretty's production and as a bonus, 20 years old Suzuki is turning into a future star that will be an impact player for Montreal for many years. In 5 years, Mtl will have Suzuki in his prime while Pacioretty is about to retire...
Avs trading Barrie and Kerfoot to the Leafs for Kadri and Rosen. I never cared for Barrie, but a lot of Avs fans were pissed. Also Kadri had the rep of getting suspended in the playoffs. Kadri has been pretty good for the Avs thus far though.
I hate to say it, but I don't think nobody predicted the 9th overall for Schneider trade. yes, vancouver won in the long run, but you have to remember at the time, New Jersey still pretty much only had a 40 year old brodeur as their only real goaltender. no major prospects or even good backup. They needed this trade. a good goalie now for future assets. maybe horvat turned out better than expected, but it was still a top 10 pick. the progression made sense. maybe schneider lowered in production early, but he still could bounce back.
@@Spilia4 i mean to be fair most canucks fans didn't know who he really was lol, he just seemed like an overpaid bottom six player for the lightning, if you didn't do your research. first round for that shitty team back then was very valuable.

the Erik Karlsson Trade for the sens
