Denis Potvin played for the Ottawa 67's when he was 13 year old. Potvin's father insisted that his older brother also had to play in order to protect him. It was mayhem hockey then in the Broadway Bullies era with Steve Durbano etc.. playing in the OHL. . The Montreal Expos had scouting camps and Denis Potvin and Bryan McSheffrey were the 2 best baseball prospects in Canada. Potvin was also an excellent football and lacrosse player but the 67's insisted that he stopped playing those sports. I went to the same primary school ( Notre dame de la Joie) and the school had to put grills on the windows facing the baseball diamond as Potvin kept breaking them . No one else was anywhere close to hitting the balls that far. By the way, Potvin was so strong that he did not need his brother's protection.
Me during the 2012: Nail Yakupov is the next best player in the league, he looks so good! Me during the 2015: Ah McDavid is overhyped, look what happened to Yakupov, that is gonna happen to McDavid. Me now: I’m not even gonna talk about Shane Wright, everything I say, the exact opposite happens lol. 😂😂😂
Honestly I kinda feel bad for Yakupov, like yes he was a massive bust, but he’s really not as bad as a lot of people play it off as nowadays. He had almost 20 goals in just 48 games as a rookie. It feels wrong to put all the blame on him when he was on a dreadfully bad oilers team. Dude was destined to be labeled a bust by the media unless he did some Ovechkin level carrying for the Oilers.

I'm thinking like Jesse Puljujärvi - hated when refusing to return from overseas when he came back has continued to win the hearts of everyone. Not just by his amazing play but he's gotta be one of the lovable NHL players
I've watched conor bedard play alot this season in person. He's playing with linemates that are pretty below above. Also, the way the other teams defend him, you have players literally only watching him when he's on the ice and nothing else. Pretty insane
joe veleno is only getting better and better for the wings. been a steady progression, he's done pretty well when he's been called up by the wings too. yzerman is being patient and letting him get to where he needs to be. very exciting future!
I am loving so far how Yzerman has handled his development. As much as fans want him on the Wings full time he just doesn’t seem to be ready for that yet but he is handling these call ups like a real pro it seems. Some kids it might screw with their heads but JFV is making the most of his opportunities in GR and Detroit and I really think he has a good shot at becoming a top 30ish player in the league.
Once or twice per year is fine. The CHL is huge. Do you expect them to be more picky in their selection? Or are getting bent out of shape because you're trying to quantify exceptional?

Great content really like learning about the next generation. Video idea find 20 or more player in juniors who you think will make it. Not exceptional status player just normal prospects. It would be fun to see in a couple years how many you got right.

Joe Veleno absolutely hasn’t “bounced around” at all…. He was drafted in first round by Detroit and has been here since between NHL squad and our AHL affiliate (although he was in NHL roster most of last season)…… not a single bounce
Veleno's numbers may not of been eye popping but trust me he dominated kids 2-3 years older than him all over the ice. After seeing the first game of his season, I said he's getting exceptional status and well he did despite messing up the paperwork.

From everything I've read about the kid he projects to be a player with speed rivalling McDavid's, he may not put up point like McDavid but you're gonna be able to play him on the first PK and the kid has bite. Let's say Shane records 90 point seasons and wins a Selke while McDavid puts up 130 points and doesn't even kill a penalty I'll take Wright over McDavid if that ends up being the case. Crosby won a cup around 23 and got Kunitz on Team Canada.. if McDavid was as good as Crosby was, he'd have found a way especially in today's younger NHL.

I remember Denis Potvin from the 67's he was definitely an elite talented D man the only thing he lacked was the elite speed others like Coffey/Orr and even big Robinson had when he got going.Now a days all the players are fast and mobile so much so they all cancel each other out but if you ever see even the worst players in the NHL in some mens league they would destroy the league scoring that is how elite NHL players are.
I might be wrong here, but I believe U18 (formerly Midget hockey) doesn't have any "adults" in it, so Crosby wasn't playing with adults when he was 14...he was playing with teenagers up to 17 years old. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Those that turn 18 After December 31st could still play in Midget for the remaining 3 months of the seasons, but usually, those players would also be eligible for Junior (or the now named U21) hockey too, which is likely where most of them would prefer to play, no?

I’m still mad we lost the lottery and got stuck with Eichel. We were still happy w 2nd best at the time. But dude grew to be a cancer to this team & that’s before the injury drama.
Its a good thing he was held back. He is not a big guy. He has had multiple concussions, hockey is a brutal sport, as a shorter guy he would have eaten more head shots. Just an update on Bedard this past season he got 51 goals, 49 assists for 100 points in 62 games.
Don't get me wrong, Bedard will be a great NHL player... but if people think hes actually going to be better then McDavid... there dreaming!

I remember Denis Potvin from the 67's he was definitely an elite talented D man the only thing he lacked was the elite speed others like Coffey/Orr and even big Robinson had when he got going.Now a days all the players are fast and mobile so much so they all cancel each other out but if you ever see even the worst players in the NHL in some mens league they would destroy the league scoring that is how elite NHL players are.

I was just at a Syracuse Crunch game and saw Sean Day, he looked solid but wasn’t anything special. Hopefully he gets a shot in the NHL at some point.

I might be wrong here, but I believe U18 (formerly Midget hockey) doesn't have any "adults" in it, so Crosby wasn't playing with adults when he was 14...he was playing with teenagers up to 17 years old. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Many players are 18 in midget if they have early birthdays.

Those that turn 18 After December 31st could still play in Midget for the remaining 3 months of the seasons, but usually, those players would also be eligible for Junior (or the now named U21) hockey too, which is likely where most of them would prefer to play, no?
@@RobTalksHockey minor midget hockey is better than midget hockey. midget is for guys that played AA the year before or the weak AAA players from the year before than didnt make junior

Its a good thing he was held back. He is not a big guy. He has had multiple concussions, hockey is a brutal sport, as a shorter guy he would have eaten more head shots. The leagues did him a service holding him back so he could mature physically. Still he got there in time. Sid the kid doing well in NHL at 18
