  • Bhujapidasana described in 20th century in Krishnamacharya's 1935 Yoga Makaranda is a strength building posture in which the knees are on the shoulders and the arms are balancing the posture.
When done to its fullest, this is one of the deep forward bend. Reaching the final position may need rigorous practice and readiness at different levels.
In this video, I have shown only the lifting position and not the forehead or the crown coming to the floor. That would most probably be the next video on this posture, which you would need to move to once this one is mastered. The key point over here is to bring the knees as up as possible above the shoulders. Once that is locked, it is easy to move into the posture smoothly.
As a pre-requisite to this, it is important that you have a strong arms, strong wrist, decent flexibility of hamstrings and the hips or it may lead to wrist injury.
As the name suggests, you will have a defined 'Bhuja' - arms and a toned up core (as core has an important role in lifting) performing this posture. Unknowingly, you also start activating your mula bandha as well as the Uddiyan Bandh in performing this asana and in its full expression, jalandhar bandh is also applied by default. Hence, a power packed posture with strength, flexibility & bandhas.
Perform with caution and with full awareness of breath so that you do not strain yourself. Avoid in case of back, arm or wrist injury.
