As an European who grew up in India and had to learn Hindi, this made me laugh so much. The first English I learned was from Indians too, so I had a heavy Punjabi accent for a long time, now I just speak with the accent of whoever I am talking to, even in my mothertongue.

Like you, English was my first language. I’m Filipino, living in the Philippines, and I picked up my language from hearing my parents and watching TV in the 60s. Very Baby Boomer TV shows. I know what you went through. I went through it too. While I can now speak Filipino, it still comes out with its own English subtitles.

I’m not Indian nor Indian diaspora at all, but as an American who has an immigrant mom & literally 1/2 my family being immigrants (from South America), this turned out to be surprisingly relatable. She grew up speaking Andean Spanish & learning British English in school, but ended up picking up Caribbean Spanish & New York English when she came to the US before moving to Florida. Her accents has been a hybrid in both languages since arriving to the US😂

If we just speak like a normal andhra person does and then help somebody with hindi skills most of them think he's very smart.. he has conquered Hindi and telugu 😆, Telugu is very difficult (writing) even for them and most of them find understanding hindi very difficult as kids.., so just by acting clueless in a language or showing normal proficiency we can win act and benifit from voth scenarios
So true! While traveling in a taxi in the Middle East (wearing an abaaya.. Which made me look like an Arab lady), two Mallu guys got into the backseat well dressed- looked educated. Soon they started talking filthy things about me & the driver. I quietly listened to it all as I can follow Malayalam very well & can speak fairly good Arabic. When I arrived at my destination I told the taxi driver what foul mouthing the buggers in the backseat were doing. The driver gave them a dirty look.. Their faces were a sight to see! Then I guess he took them to the nearest police station.

Even We had a girl in my class , she was NRI (From Kenya) and took Direct Admission because of DASA Scheme, and she used to try Tamil Accent in the college and people from Tamilnadu caught her for her fake accent .
