"It doesn't really give up anything. You still have 10,900 lbs of towing". But it actually gives up 3,000 lbs to my FX4! Try 13,900 lbs with the Max Tow pckg the Tremor can't have. We live in a world of tradeoffs.
Just bought a ZR2 yesterday. Slate grey. I’m a truck guy and this ZR2 fills me with excitement. The engine, exterior and interior looks. Infotainment system is awesome. Active exhaust in sport mode. Great Review for comparison of both trucks. Everything I buy is chevy. Over the years I spent over 300k in GM vehicles, most of these purchased new. I have reached my threshold on the inflated prices on these vehicles. It's gotten ridiculous. I was most pleased with the 2019 Trailboss LT which was purchased in 2018, it was very well priced, whether the ZR2 or any of the new models they are too overpriced for the working family guy.
Used to be a Chevy guy myself - then switched from Chevy to dodge , now I won’t run anything but ford . The half tons with 3.5 have so much low end pulling power , the 5.0 coyote is so easily modified it can be turned into a 900+ whp monster with a fuel system , forced induction and a tune and is completely reliable , needing no top/bottom end engine parts ! ‘ The ifs of the 2500hd Chevy is weak , but rides amazing .. the new f250 with the 6.7ho rides nearly as nice with a solid front axle , and stock it makes 500 whp ! I have a 700 whp 2014 f350 lariat and will be getting a new ford with the 6.7ho soon . I also have a 2016 Lincoln Navigator with 155k hard miles that has caused me no major headaches its entire life , and just picked up a 2023 expedition limited. I’ve become a bit of a believer in the ford power plants . Also would like to add I drove a high country Tahoe with 6.2 , and 10 speed - and my expedition limited with the Ho 3.5 , feels so much stronger down low as well very potent through entire rpm range . Peak torque is at 2200 rpm’s vs 4500 in the Chevy “that is huge for towing in half ton world “
Is Chevy still doing the subscription service monthly to access features in the truck? I like Chevy but that's a BIG turn off for me... It would push me toward Ford.
The Tremor needs the 5.0 coyote in it, it would sound amazing with a flow master exhaust too but both trucks are awesome and really what it comes down to for me is the price and how they hold up over time
Glad to see u making this comparison. Too many folks have tried to compare the zr2 to raptor but the tremor makes more sense based on options and pricing.
@@dylanf7344 If my history is correct, the reason the Tremor now has a v8 option is Ford plans to offer a wench mounted behind the bumper as an option similar to the F250 tremor. The intercooler on the ecoboost motors would not allow this. I'm an ecoboost fanboy myself, but offering the tremor with a v8 option just makes to much sense.
I like the idea of using limited slip differentials. Unless you're planning on doing dedicated off roading it makes more sense to use the limited slip. It turns on when it's needed and doesn't require any driver input or 4lo engagement which is cool.
One down side to a torsen is that when a wheel is lifted completely, it acts like an open diff. Had this issue in the miata I had when I had the rear sway bar set too stiff.
Late to the party here, but super helpful video comparison. One comment is Tremor has the lower 401a package and can still get with torsen front so still has serious capabilities with much cheaper price tags. Don’t think you can get a low cost ZR2. So ZR2 is just more money. Also, fuel economy on the eco boost is much better than the big 6.2L (although 6.2 sounds fantastic). But long term living, I’d rather better economy and still get power. Although ecoboost is thirsty towing heavy loads. But pulling my boat on weekends and daily driving in town, I went with ‘23 Tremor 401a with torsen front end and kept a lot of cash in pocket.
Not worth the price? Then go add up what’s on the truck then get back to me about price. And I don’t mean parts either, labors goes into costs also. Yes it was cheaper then, also then engineers used to cross paths and do each others work because the dash was the same, now you have unequal parts now and premium parts we have never seen ever in trucks, these trucks are fast as shit compared to our old trucks, they drive 10x better brake a whole lot better and offer a substantially amount of robust performance. NVH levels on the new Denali are lower than the last line of Caddy cars per PERSONS interviewed , Rhino is stock now, electric locking rears, cooled rear ends, LAD front axles, multimedia shocks, B & O sound system , LED lighting , 900 cameras so u can we all over the truck, yet it’s over priced. It’s just the game has upgraded, GTA.
Great review! The bed setup is something I love in my 3500 AT4. We ditched the cords on our tools a long time ago so the extra plug isn’t a loss. Also the the multi-pro tailgate and the big tie-down loops combined with the bumper steps make fastening awkward building materials down a breeze. Literally the best box I’ve ever worked out of. Good job GM
@@dylanf7344 3 trucks on to my 4th with this tailgate and over 200 thousand plus kilometers and haven’t had any issues with this tailgate not working. Also it’s hard to deny that the box step at the front behind the cab is the handiest thing for tying things down to a BACKRACK.. I don’t know about you but I don’t enjoy climbing all over all over a brand new truck.
For TWO reasons.....the fold down / fold out steps work much better than the built-in steps. 1. The added Accessory Fold Down / Fold Out Steps provide a "distance cushion" between the person and the pickup box...allowing for better balance. 2. More room and overhang for the boot (foot). In addition, both GM and now Ford want people to think they are getting "something extra" when the main driver of that concept was to cut costs. The ABS polymer cost less than the displaced steel or aluminum.
I was very sold on the tremor because of my dad who has the F350 but after a month worth of searching I went with the 22 Raptor 35 package. I love this channel because this is how most people in the south off road not the rock climbing crap.
ZR2 for the same money. I prefer the Tremor's bed though. I'd gladly trade some cargo hooks for the additional on board power and extra outlet. The ruler is a nice touch
@@ecu4awhile Not obsessed with the brrr. My current truck is an 07 with a few hundred short of 260000 miles. Whatever I buy will be kept and used for a while. Don't want to take a chance on replacing Turbos down the line.
@@ecu4awhile A V8 is more balanced than a V6 and probably more durable long term. In general, and in this comparison specifically, the smaller engine (V6) has to rely on turbos to edge out the larger V8 in power output. Put turbos on the V8 and it would smoke the V6.
I had a trailboss for two years, bought a tremor about a year ago. I like the Tremor so much more as a daily driver, in the snow and the fuel economy is about 25% better even when towing. The clearance and offroad issues can easily be addressed by a $150 leveling kit and some new tires.
I have a 2022 Ford F350 Lariat 7.3L Tremor with Warn winch. That said, I would choose the Chevrolet 1500 ZR2 6.2L "push rod" V8 over the Ford F150 Tremor. I might choose the Tremor if it had a V8 engine......BUT, I would want the new 6.8L "push rod" V8 instead of the 5.0L Coyote V8 DOHC.
Great write up guys. Would have love to seen an impromptu 0-60 with the trucks towing. As a F150 owner the tie downs on the GM are fantastic. Coming out of a 2019 Sierra Denali , I can see the tie down points on GM is something all truck manufacturers need to do. I also agree the ECO is quiet and tame sounding when it comes against the GM 6.2/Ram 5.7 but let’s not forget the 500LB of torque on the Ford. All that torque downlow is nice advantage. Lastly ,I absolutely envy the father/son duo. Nothing better in life then your dad next to you. Supportive and Fkn super knowledgeable

When the ZR2 first dropped, EVERYONE blasted it for being so expensive and not being able to hang with the Raptor/TRX. Well, as you can see, price-wise, it's right in line with the Tremor, not the Raptor. Also, for most who daily drive these, they will never use the long travel suspension and will probably get tired of the fuel consumption of the other two, with their foot in it all the time. NOW, that being said, if you have the means to buy a second/play vehicle, Raptor/TRX are gonna be the fun toys... Anyways, just my opinion. Everyone has their own....
Well what confused me is that Chevy already has the trail boss and I thought the zr2 was supposed to be the raptor rival cuz it looks more like a Baja prerunner truck like the raptor and TRX but guess not, it would be cool tho if they used the supercharged 6.2L v8 from the ZL1 and Z06

The rust on the F150's rear axle is an absolute embarrassment! I know it's cosmetic surface rust, but on a brand new $86,000 vehicle, it's bloody shameful. Shame on both brands for not doing a better job with the underside protection on off-road focused models. The ZR2 looks like a fun new toy. Too bad they weren't able to offer the diesel option at launch.
Gotta agree there, and this coming from a Ford owner. My '15 F-150 has virtually nothing on the underbody, so seeing a 7-8 year newer truck with it already is just sad even if it's only cosmetic.
general grabbers are good street driving tires or when no mud. i just took them off my f150 for more aggressive tires and noticed a difference right away.
I feel like the tires are the difference in this video. Put those territories on the FORD and it would deliver the same results. The lift on the Chevy stock is a bit more though
Great video. My only thought on the F-150 when it failed in the mud is this. You took off the lockers (of course to even the playing field) but I see it this way, Ford knows what the truck is and is not capable of and this is why when you put it in mud/rutt it automatically locks up. I see that as great design. Of course you have the option to deselect it too. I was disappointed to see it fail there though. Again great video
He went into the mud instead of over the rock like the chevy did. Little slip doesnt really matter, its if one goes through while the other is just plain stuck.
I find it funny that you said you liked how the tremor front torsen just does it itself and you don't have to press anything but for years everyone hated on the gm G80 locker in the rear and that they preferred a selectable locker. As usual though I really enjoy your videos you guys are by far my favorite review channel.
I think it was just the way the G80 behaved that everyone hated. An open diff until a vast amount of wheel speed difference is detected before it engages in a fairly rough fashion.
@@ALMX5DP You have to learn how to load up a G80, they can lock up fast and with minimal spin. Even truck king has demonstrated how fast they can lock up.

Great review. Crazy how close they are in price. Question for you and your dad-seems like the view out to front or how high the hood is designed is very different in these two trucks. Chevy seems way higher/more obstructing. You didn’t mention this at all in the video, so maybe it’s not as noticeable behind the wheel? Great review…as real world as it gets. Also…please add a “standard loop” fuel mileage to this test at real world speed. Thank you. You guys are awesome
I drive a gmc truck for work and because of the crap visibility out of it I will not get one. I’m a shorter guy and my Ram is much better for visibility.
Very fair review. I bought a 2023 Ford Tremor 402a package. It's just like a platinum but without messaging seats. Ford is the innovator of the truck industry. There's too many features (Torsen in 4H, work space, towing capacity, side lighting, rear tow hooks, trail crawl, trail turn (not reviewed here), 2k inverter, driving modes, panoramic roof, etc.) Ford has over other mfgs for me to ignore. Fordpass on my iPhone works great too and no monthly charge for it. I tow a boat at 7k lbs with no problems too. It's much smoother on the road than my previous trucks too. A great package all together.
@@loweredyote8416 it’s crazy. The ZR2 & AT4X look awesome but no way I’m buying with that issue still there.. I have family that has had to have multiple repairs for it.
Good point. Let's hope TK can get a 5.0 Tremor and test it against the ZR2 or anything else really. I think a direct comparison between the 6.2 and 5.0 is something everyone would like to see on this channel.
The Ford F250 / F350 Tremor would destroy the Chevrolet 2500 / 3500 SRW or GMC 2500 / 3500 SRW AT4 or AT4X..........in both gas engine and diesel engine comparisons.
my 1 yr new lariat just got stolen and I am comparing exactly the 2 trucks as the replacement. Thanks for the insightful review, you answered all my questions!!!
Anytime there is a new truck model to check out, TK is top dog for the reviews!!! Real off roading and true towing runs. Love it-I want to go splatter my truck with mud now. For me the Tremor is a great truck-I own a F150 eco boost and there rock solid and Big pullers too. But its going to be the Chevy ZR2 for me, it will do the work, tow the boat, load everybody up and have more FUN doing it!!! 💪 6.2lt
Late but bought a ZR2 4 days ago and there is ZERO compromise on rode as far as ride quality. The Zr2 rides significantly better than standard or trail boss models and even better than my 2019 ram 1500.
Just my view; I'll be looking at a 4 person side by side vs. either as a vehicle to get to remote hunting camps, they are making kits that make them usable in cold weather. However both makers have come up with some cool options. To answer "based on the bed", it's tough I to like the Chevy tail gate had the flip up load stopper. On the other hand, this is what I see happening with the chevy step; it is gonna eventually get clobbered when I forget I left the hitch on. As a truck owner I always have two load straps in the vehicle and I am generally able to use them to keep a load from sliding out the back. I still hear those that hate the twin turbo, I have say the low end torque of the twin turbo is not something I'd willingly give up.
I really believe after watching this video I would have to go with the F150 because I tow much more and the interior looked so much nicer also with the 6.2 I believe you have to use high-octane gas .and with that 3.5 you have 500 foot pounds of torque for towing my boat and RV and when I’m not towing I would get better mileage so I think that’s a clear answer for me and it’s good enough off road
@@coryernewein then you should probably stick with a tractor. All modern engines are over-complicated, computer-controlled, complex and sophisticated machines engineered for profit, emissions, and power first, and reliability last, if at all. Long gone are the days of truly simple V8 engines.

Great channel, only thing I would like to see more of- when these trucks are on the rack, getting more into the mechanics of everything. i.e. type of gears, thickness of control arms- the true 'nuts and bolts' of it. Perhaps better suited for a mechanic tv show, but it would be a nice addition on top of what you are already doing. Enjoy the channel!
Ford would be my pick I don’t do much off-road but if I do the f150 will do the job for me and if I need to tour or haul it will work for me. Only bye want you need lol
I just went from a Ford e350 van to a chevy express 3500. I have to say i like the 6.0 v8 alot. Chevy is King. My Tahoe is super reliable as well. Only thing i hate is the cheap airbags in the rear.
For a modern pickup such as these, I much prefer a helical style limited slip diff over any locker. They'll always be there and used in any condition or drive mode and still are able to utilize the individual wheel braking through the computer to very nearly mimic a locker. If i had a dedicated rock crawling Jeep, sure a locker is a must, but for an everyday pickup that goes through mud and ruts and snow, LSD is a big selling point for me.
@@denisleblanc4506 tires are still the only part of the vehicle actually making contact with the ground, and so are one of the more important aspects. Other components or features (such as a diff) cannot fully make up for a deficit if there is one.
Great video! I'd like to see you re-do the comparison with the 2024 Tremor equipped with one of the V8 options. Also the onboard power difference is huge to those of us who need power off-grid.
Thank you for the test and giving us a cool video to watch! It'd be awesome if you had a set of "test tires" (like a set of moderate all-terrains on a set of wheels that fit ford and chevy) so we could see how the trucks do against each other with the same size and kind of tires. I totally understand testing them as they come from the factory though, it'd just be neat to see how they stack up against each other offroad with the same traction. The tires on the zr2 are definitely an advantage lol

I do appreciate that about mine. Not sure if GM moved away from wax coated frames either, speaking of corrosion I think Ford's e-coated frame does a decent job against the elements whereas I've heard of people scraping off the wax coating fairly easily and having corrosion issues as a result in those areas. Not sure if that's still the case though.

Both trucks very close but what you used for the chevy and it’s “high speed” off roading is not what the tremor was made for that’s what the raptor is for also would have a softer suspension like the zr2 and probably less towing capacity because you have to give that up. Both trucks look great

Amen. It's not just you.
So what is a proper price?
Used to be a Chevy guy myself - then switched from Chevy to dodge , now I won’t run anything but ford . The half tons with 3.5 have so much low end pulling power , the 5.0 coyote is so easily modified it can be turned into a 900+ whp monster with a fuel system , forced induction and a tune and is completely reliable , needing no top/bottom end engine parts ! ‘
The ifs of the 2500hd Chevy is weak , but rides amazing .. the new f250 with the 6.7ho rides nearly as nice with a solid front axle , and stock it makes 500 whp !
Best, most concise review I've seen in a long while. Covers the points that interest me, without the fluff. Excellent work!!!
I agree! I really want the midnight black edition 6.2 Liter v8
You guys also got to talk about the rust protection when under the truck! That's is an important part of long term truck ownership
The Tremor needs the 5.0 coyote in it,
it would sound amazing with a flow master exhaust too but both trucks are awesome and really what it comes down to for me is the price and how they hold up over time
Agreed. I was always confused that ford doesn't use the coyote in more applications. It's a good engine

You can order it with the 5.0 for 2023!!
For 2023 it does come with it
Now the tremor is standard with a 5.0 L
that flip up tail gate feature is the best feature i have seen
Glad to see u making this comparison. Too many folks have tried to compare the zr2 to raptor but the tremor makes more sense based on options and pricing.
We thought so - Raptor is next level.
Now that you can get a tremor with the 5.0 coyote this is even more relevant.
@@rdsii64 yah the 5.0 is way better and it is a amazing v8
Why put fake 4 wheel drive when you can put real 4 wheel drive?
@@samduran5180 Because real 4WD is more expensive and you don't usually need it.

Locking diffs are the bomb!
I have a new Tremor and really enjoyed your review.
You missed opening that Chevy tailgate step WITH the hitch installed in the receiver. El smasho..
I pull a boat and that's a feature that would cost. Not to mention taking the hitch on and off.

I'd have a hard time choosing between the two.....and that's coming from a Ford guy.
That said, neither one are worth the price to me.
Inflation. Get use to it the prices will never be lower again only going up.

I might choose the Tremor if it had a V8 engine......BUT, I would want the new 6.8L "push rod" V8 instead of the 5.0L Coyote V8 DOHC.

you said the tremor has 9.4 inches of ground clearance? I googled 'ford f 150 tremor ground clearance' and got 10.9 inches

Not using the tremors advanced technology is just giving the Chevy the win

Funny how it couldn't make up for the tires on the rock climb.
@@denisleblanc4506 tires are still the only part of the vehicle actually making contact with the ground, and so are one of the more important aspects. Other components or features (such as a diff) cannot fully make up for a deficit if there is one.

First thing I'd do with the Ford is yank the dumb E locker and put a torsen rear diff in it from a performance pack mustang. Yes it's a direct swap if you were wondering
I live where they salt the roads, I’d go with the Ford Aluminum Body, I bought a 2017 F150 a friend bought a Silverado about the same time, rust in the bed wheel wells and corners of the cab, it’s been repaired already. If the didn’t use road salt I might have to be a a Chevy guy
Nice video as always. I like your truck reviews and this channel is one of the best.
That's a tough one but if you're into max towing choose the Ford and if you want the Off-Road, the mean look package, I would pick the ZR2...
General tire suck ! I had to use 4wd on flat ground with an inch of snow ! I’ll be putting on a set of Falken Wildpeak AT3 for sure . Had them on my last truck . Nothing stopping them . I’m in the northeast, plenty of snow .
Awesome review. I would go with a ZR2 for sure, but I'm a GM guy.
Also, I just purchased a '22 Silverado Z71. It's been a dream truck so far.
Great video, wish you guys would do a maneuverability test like u-turn radius test
Would have liked to see a 7.3 or even the 5.0 in that Ford but good video. Love the testing area.
I thought the same thing about using the v8 in the ford but it would probably do worst because of less torque no?
@@mattyp2123 The 7.3L has 475 LBS/TQ, the 5.0 has 410 and the ecoboost has 500 so you’re right about overall TQ numbers but how is it achieved in each? Well the 7.3 & 5.0 are NA so that TQ is instant and the ecoboost is turbocharged so it takes buildup to achieve. I’d go with the 7.3, 5.0 then the eco for off-road use myself.
@@dustingre8 oh well you bring the 7.3 into it that’s a different story and a bigger truck. I’m just going off of what’s in the video mid size trucks. So you’re saying that 5.0 tremor v8 will still do better than that twin turbo eco boost?
@@mattyp2123 Personally I would take the 5.0 over the eco, yes.
I like the graphic numbers comparison
Chevy for me. i own a Ram.
Great video Fellows👍👍I hear the 2023 F150 Tremor Can be optioned with 5.0 V8 Coyoti Engine. One other bit of information, the FORD 6.2L is going a way and being replaced by a 6.8L V8, hence the F250 tremor would possibly have that engine as an option.
ford is dead sooooooo
Chevy all the way
I never go off-road so got me a Sierra ultimate with super cruise!
Yes! Very nice truck, and in my opinion, the most badass luxury truck on the market. Love the Vader chrome finish, plus the interior color combo!
I would skip both and buy a Silverado Custom Trailboss diesel for $25K less and have similar capability to the Tremor with much better fuel economy.
Fuel economy for sure! Not sold on reliability......I have a 2021 tahoe with the duramax (30000 km) and it's been in the shop multiple times.
@@iggy-pg6gqsir what has happened with your 3.0 diesel? Thanks
@volodymyrprosov6134 Emmisions issues, coolant leak right off the lot brand new. Random pieces breaking( fuel tank cap, seat latches). I actually got rid of it, probably around the time I posted the last comment. It was a complete lemon. Only had 33,000km on it when I sold it....
Both trucks very close but what you used for the chevy and it’s “high speed” off roading is not what the tremor was made for that’s what the raptor is for also would have a softer suspension like the zr2 and probably less towing capacity because you have to give that up. Both trucks look great
I really like Ford’s Tremor package across their truck line up but I would buy the Zr2. The Chevy has better suspension & cost less
And just look At it. Ford looks like a grandpa truck and the Chevy look aggressive as can be
@@chrismoney1468 here you go here. The Ford looks like a Man truck.
The Chevy doesn't have better suspension, stop with that lie
Better suspension? Liar liar pants on fire! The ford looks way better
@@BruceDragon-sf1tr I agree. Grown man in his 70s truck.
Great job showing these two great trucks. To me there's not a nickels worth of different between the two. There out of my price range so I'll just have to wish.
I like fords but i have to go with the chevy it has a lot of things that sets it apart than the standard silverado than what the ford does for the same money too. I know the ford has already surface rust on the axle but better than a rusted body🤣 all aluminium baby.
I like control over my diff lockers anyway! I love the ZR2
