    I’m a Toyota guy. Own a 2016 Avalon and a 1980 FJ40. I waited for forever like everyone else for the Tundra reveal. Really wanted to buy one but it turned out to be a dud. I spent $69K on a new F350 Tremor instead of a TRD Pro. I’m happy because for the same money the F350 Tremor has three times the payload and twice the towing capability of the new Tundra and has 35in tires standard.

    I did 2000k miles on my Tremor 402a a few weeks back. Took it off roading on the Trinity River and also some flash floods in Lake Havasu and Joshua Tree. Also field tested it on 24 miles of off roading in the Cleveland National Forest. This truck is amazingly comfortable and confident and the Torsen front diff with the rear locker and drive modes makes a real serious difference between it and my last FX4 Platinum that I had on 35's. My only little gripe is that the small bump compliance wasn't as soft as I was expecting but I was still able to drive it 15 mph faster than my old truck when off roading. That, my friend, is a huge difference!

    • @trailrunnah8886
      @trailrunnah8886 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah, that is an epic fail in my opinion. Though, it is kind of a Toyota thing. Even the 4Runner models, including the TRD Pro, don't really have good recovery hooks. They have loops that are located up under the front bumper on the radiator support, they're definitely not as beefy as something that you would find on a Jeep or like the ones on this Tremor. In my owner's manual, Toyota says that these are not recovery points, they are tie-down points. I bought some aftermarket front recovery points that are beefy and bolt to four different spots on the frame.

    • @whackityschmackitydo
      @whackityschmackitydo ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @Steve-yr5vi
      @Steve-yr5vi ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trailrunnah8886 There is a reason Toyota does that; you can of course put tow hooks on however putting a tow hook on and you have a modified truck? So when you break something a dealer can say "this truck was modified beyond stock specs...." Toyota doesn't get their 2% better reliability rating by accident...What person in their right mind takes any truck without tow hooks on terrain where a wrongly placed wheel gets you stuck? No one does, and every Tundra owner with sense will put tow hooks on. But if they'd ask a good warranty lawyer, the lawyer would say go "sell the truck and buy one that has them stock".....

      I am a self admitted ecoboost fanboy. With that said, on the Tremor the v8 options makes sense. The lack of an intercooler will allow Ford to offer a factory front mounted wench option on the Tremor. While I have no proof, I believe this why they backed away from no v8 on the Tremor.

    I advise to stick to the same “line” because the Tremor took a left line on the rocks and on the hydro climb but the TRD took a right line and struggled in both. The TRD did better when Dad adjusted and took the same line as the Tremor.
    I would have went back to the Tremor and took both right lines to see if it got stuck and had to adjust the line or it may have dominated both lines??
    The obvious issues were the absent tow hooks, absent locker in 4Hi, and fully exposed exhaust on the TRD!

      Have to consider the water that the Tremor drug up onto the rocks may have caused the TRD to take an unexpected right line too. All in all I think they both had similar results. I am impressed with the tremor. 12:00-14:00 the TRD just struggles to get started and gets stuck on exit....Tremor just breezed through the mudding without annoying beeping etc. The TRD again looking so stiff throughout!!! When you factor in how much more usability the Tremor has with it’s substantial payload superiority this is a no brainer (1600-1800lbs is common on a Tremor and not possible at all on a TRD Pro). Its just crazy that Toyota had so long to develop the new Tundra and even saw the new Ford, GM and Ram trucks before releasing theirs, yet still didnt keep up. Then to top it off they made the truck less usable due to the asinine rear bumper that makes it difficult to get in the bed, and handicapped even their most offroad version with no tow hooks.
    I own a 2021 Tremor, its a beast offroad and still has 1699lbs of payload capacity that allows me to haul my travel trailer with ease. I don’t think there is a better all around capable truck currently on the market.

      @@kenmasteren That simply hasn’t been the case with the new Tundra…. I get the long term brand reputation, but this is an all new platform and it certainly hasn’t started out well for Toyota. For me the most important part is what I can actually use the truck for- unfortunately the low payload rating of the TRD Pro makes it useless for actual truck work- particularly towing. Thats normally the case for an offroad biased truck, but the Tremor defies that norm and clearly isn’t giving up much if anything to the TRD Pro in the offroad department. It’s pretty incredible that Ford can make the truck ride and handle so well offroad but somehow maintain payload that rivals other brands’ best numbers for a minimally equipped model. 17k hard miles so far in 8 months (over 6000 of which are towing)on my Tremor without a single hiccup, squeak, rattle or mechanical issue of any kind.

Many of which have had issues with their new Tundras. I know Toyota overall has a killer reputation for reliability, but it’s just too soon to tell with the new Tundra- and I bet Toyota isnt happy about the way it has started out.
