    When setting up the tool path is it recommended to set the Z0 off the TOP of the MATERIAL or the TOP of the Spoil Board? Let's make an assumption that the thickness of my material is .14 but can vary up to about .16. If The Z0 is from the TOP of the material does a swivel depth of .13 lift the back UP from the bottom of the cut which is .14 to .16 and leave the blade embedded in the material .02 to .03? Let's assume I want to set Z0 to the height of the spoil board what would the swivel depth be? I have some leeway in the material I am cutting ( Leather ) but I am trying to avoid waste and avoid marring my material.

      We recommend that you Z0 to your surface, not to the top of the material. If you do that, you will have no cut into your table or spoil board and it will allow for any depth variation within your material up to the depth of cut for each specific knife. If you have more in depth questions or this does not answer your question, please contact us at jmartin@donektools.com and I will put you in touch with our software tech.

      @@donektoolsinc7619 It sorta answers my question. In the video the Z0 is shown to be the top of the material. If the Z0 is the top of my spoil board which is in the case anywhere from .14" to .16" down from the top of the material does the swivel depth indicate how far from the spoil board the knife will lift before doing it's swivel? In my case the spoil board is Fiskars Self Healing cutting mat so I am not so worried about it being cut. My main concern is that it goes all the way through the material I am cutting and during the swivel move it doesn't mar the surface of the leather.

      @@williamcassanova1111 if you choose to Z0 to the top of your material, and your material varies in thickness, your best bet is to set your swivel depth slightly greater than the difference in the thickness of that material. So let's say if your material variance is .004 " in variation, than set your swivel depth slightly greater than .004. This will allow you to catch the top of the thinner material without gouging or grabbing the thicker part of the material.

    I have an x carve pro and id like to use this tool with it. Is there a software plugin for easel pro?

      I am not aware of one, but you can reach out to the software company and see if they have one. Even if you don't, you can make sharp corners with bypass loops or turning cuts.

    I have a Onefinity machine with a Makita router with a .25" shank. which one would you recommend I buy?

    • @jeniferwitt5375
      @jeniferwitt5375 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are going to only cut material as thin as .02", I would recommend the D3. This knife cuts up to .0625" and accommodates a .25" shank.

    Hello. to run on the machine what software are you using? on my machine I'm trying to make an oscillating shaft with a stepper motor.

      @@jeniferwitt5375 hello Jenefer thanks for answering but what i need to know is about the program the cutting machine will be running in and its settings. If it is possible to run the oscillating axis by a stepper motor.

    I am trying to make a stencil with .02 polystyrene. will this cut .02 HIPS polystyrene?

    • @jeniferwitt5375
      @jeniferwitt5375 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, all the knives will cut that thickness.

  • @cedarshack

    At the completion of a closed profile the drag knife does not advance past the start point (the offset distance) to fully complete the cut. The toolpath stops (center axis of spindle) at the start point which is .160" short of the where the blade tip is. Therefore you have a .160" tag of material still attached. How do you fix this?

    • @jeniferwitt5375
      @jeniferwitt5375 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need to look into the vector gadget and look at the blade offset.

    • @cedarshack
      @cedarshack 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeniferwitt5375 Yes, the offset is set correctly @ .160. However the toolpath at the end of a closed contour does not advance past the start point by .160 - which it must do to finish the cut.

      Did you ever find a solution to this? My machine is doing the same thing. I don't see any settings in the gadget to adjust the end overrun.

    How does the blade swivel if the router is turned off?

    • @jeniferwitt5375
      @jeniferwitt5375 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are two precision bearings inside that allow the knife to turn/ spin freely while following the tool path. Because the tip of the blade is slightly behind center, the knife will follow the path much like the caster on a desk chair follows the chair when you move it across the floor.
