- This video covers how to fix a Maytag/Whirlpool/Kenmore/Amana washing machine that is shaking and banging against its sides. This video provides step by step instructions into replacing the suspension rods. This video is applicable across many different models of washing machines. The machine in the video is MVWC360AW0 Maytag Centennial. This video is part of my series "Free on Facebook" which is a series of videos in which I repair, recycle, and reuse things I find for free.

Thank you brotha, it’s ppl like you that make TH-cam great.
Thank you!
I’ve gotta look into this! We have a 2 year old with the same issue. By far this is the best explanation on suspension rods. Thank you my friend! 👍🏼
Best of luck!
I just fixed mine in just over an hour after a little wrestling around. It finally submitted after the Australian toe hold followed by the choke hold!😁 thanks for the great video!!!
Thanks a million! I found the parts at Amazon. My machine is an Admiral Brand. Super easy to replace thanks again!
The amount of talking is Just Fine. So is the pace of your descriptions. I've watched videos that are faster and louder, and they do me no good.
Thanks for this video and for answering your Comment questions.
Appreciate the support!
Great video..I like the way you explain things (the instructions) and then do it just like you said..well done..keep them video coming.
Appreciate the kind words!
You are a master teacher! Pleasant and clear explanation. Thank you!
I appreciate the kind words glad I could help!
Very well done as always. The one time I had problems with shaking and making loud banging noises was that one time I ate at Chipotle. 😀 Hope you have a great weekend ahead!

Nice video, very clean. My neighbor's dogs bark. Makes me feel at home.
Very informative video. The back of my Maytag washer vibrates & has done so since it was new. I hooked a piece of rope on the back & pulled it tight toward the front of the washer which helped so I’m wondering if maybe the screws were not tightened. Will have to check. It’s worse when I wash jeans & I’ve cut the load size down considerably. Thanks for sharing such a great repair video. Very well done!
Sooo easy to understand. Thank you soooo, much!!!❤
Great video, thanks! Didn't notice the dog barking until you mentioned it. 😆
Good video and great job. Well done sir.
Great explanation. Great video.
Glad it was helpful!
Great teacher!!!
Very helpful!
Thank you!
Thanks, you explained things very well
Your welcome!
Thanks!! Explanation is great!!
Awesome glad to help!
THANK YOU! I was able to fix my machine. It works perfect now!
You're welcome!
Outstanding video thanks so much an easy fix !!!!
Glad it helped!
Excellent video very simple
Thanks 😊!
Love how you explain everything as you go! I replaced my rods but think I’m going to have to replace the hub, it’s still shaking. Also need to replace the sound absorbers on both sides. 🤞🤞🤞
Thank you! Best of luck in your repair!
What are the sound absorbers ?

The black pads on the left and right of the tub. They are near the top. Just 3” x 3” foam pads sticky on one side so the tub doesn’t bang against the enclosure.
great video, thanks. life hack for me was to use the old rod J hooks to lift the new ones through
Great tip!
Dammit. That would’ve helped. Good tip.
Making this repair stopped my washer from trying to self-destruct in the spin cycle.
Thanks for the help! This should be easy to fix on mom's machine. Plus save her the $80 serves call fee.
Awesome! Best of the luck with the repair!
That’s my washer. Bought it for the simple technology. Good ol basic construction but I have this imbalance problem
Great video, even I got it. What does a 4 set of those cost? Thanks
I fixed my washer changed these but it still shakes like crazy, only one was broken off, isnt there 4 other smaller springs that go on washer im thinking maybe its those , do you have video on changes these
This is the best video who need their washer fixed ?😂
Do you have to insert from the bottom of the washer? Can you drop it down from the inside of the washer?
My washer was 90% identical; however, the drum was completely suspended by the rods/springs... if you follow the video's instructions on how to get the right part, you should be fine (Yes, I got mine from Amazon too). In my case, I found it easier just to pull the washer out completely and lay it on its side - that "zeroes" the tension on the "top" springs and they are easy to replace. Flipping it over has the same effect. When repaired and reset upright, you may need to 'bounce' the tub a bit manually for everything to set... Once it does, yes, it can still side/side but it is difficult to go up/down. My guess is the "free form/ Side-to-side" thing is so it can judge the load size.
But the repair worked like a charm - $40- over $400? sign me up!
replaced suspension rods with Chinesium and well, it didn't last long. If you have to wait to get USA made parts, do so, its worth the wait and the money.
Agreed. Happened to me once as well
Made that mistake as well.
Where did you buy the USA made?
local to where I live, an independant parts store. I have to ask for original parts, not chinesium. @@herewegoagain7135
True, but he gets them virtually for free and sells them to other people. I’d put the cheapest parts in I could if I was reselling them, but if I were keeping them I’d get US made parts.
Is there any video to fix the same problem for those advance digital whirlpool laundry machine. It shakes and keeps bagging against the wall
I have same washer but mines only shake during spin cycle where do u think I should start first?
When putting your old rods back in did it fix the problem?
Great video, I just replaced the plastic to metal flange but fear I need to replace the rods too because it still bounces up and down when pushed down.
Thank you!
Thanks so much
Your welcome!
I have a whirlpool WTW4815EWO I bought suspension rods from Amazon. It says compatible. I noticed the plastic pieces that fit in the whole n cup the rod fit into are slightly different. They don’t look like fit securely in the frame. So I used the old ones. Put back together but machine is still banging. Also the drum still feels like had sake slack in it. Not firm.
Were u buy your parts from
Our washer does that we changed all 4 rods and it's still doing it anything else it could be? It's a Maytag
Is it possible to show what was actually wrong with the suspension? Just trying to learn. 😊 Thank you for showing how to replace them.
Check out ‘Washer Dryer Money’ video titled ‘Cheap Permanent? Fix for Shaking banging washer? $7 to fix…’
He explains why.
@@willsalicia Thank you
hello, yesterday I bought new washing machine and I forget to remove 4 bolt screws from the back. and I had start washing clothes and after few minutes my machine got noise and i plugged off and i saw one bolt screw broken down on the floor. after that i remove all bolt screw from the machine. i am worried about the half part of the screw inside the machine. I just want to know is it safe for machine or what happened?
You got a link for the rods please
Thank you...
You're welcome!
What is the average cost of a suspension rod?
I accidentally dropped a paper cloth behind the drum and cannot get it out. Is it a fire hazard?
Thanks for the video, I just lubed the cup the suspension rod bearing rides in and the noise went away.
Great job! I have done that on a Samsung myself!
Thanks dude! So, what happens to the rod that it needs to be replaced? Does anything break, or are they just worn? Again, thanks this is a huge help!
They just begin to sag over time kind how the shocks on pickup trucks go bad after decade or so
Bro thanks for ur videos. Question my maytag machine is 1 year old u thing thats the problem with mine??? It shakes like crazy. I hope u will answer my question thanks a lot again for ur helpful videos..🙏🏼🙏🏼
Yes it can be the suspension rods that are bad. It's definitely worth trying! If it is not the rods, then most likely, the inner tub is beginning to strip, which would be much more of an expensive (probably not worth it) repair. I make sure the washer is completely level and then replace rods.
I have replaced the rods in my Cabrio and now it will spin at high speed and not bang around. However when agitating the drum slams into the sides every time the agitator changes direction. The bearings need replacing and I will be doing that next when I get the kit. But scratching my head over such a wide movement of the tube during agitation when that was not an issue before I replaced the rods. Any thoughts on this?
Check to see if bolt that holds the stator on at the bottom is loose
Hi DuctTapeMechanic!
I just subscribed! Question for you, is it likely to be anything other than the suspension rods? The hub axle seems fine but I do have water between the inner and outer drum and I am wondering if that could be the culprit for the crazy shaking? After I opened up the top I put the washer on spin with nothing inside and it spun smoothly.
I would check to see if there is significant play between the inner and outer tub (it should be tight). If there is play, then your inner tub is stripped (time for new washer). If there is no play, try pushing down on the agitator with your hand if it bounces around a couple times the suspension rods are bad (good rods should only bounce back once or twice). Running it without any cloth won't tell you much. Hope this helped.
@@DuctTapeMechanic It did! It was the suspension rods and I replaced them one at a time per your video! Thanks again for your videos!
@@TrebyZ You're welcome!
I replaced the springs, but my washer still shakes violently when spinning. The issue is not the load being out of balance. Do you know what else could cause this? Thanks.
Try replacing the hub. You will have to remove the agitator and you will see it. I have a video on it as well.

Do you replace the cheap plastic hub with the metal one?
Hello, i have a Maytag washing machine and when the spin cycle starts the washing machine stars making a lot of noise, im thinking bearings(?).
I've also cleaned the light sensor that sits on the actuator since it was covered in a thin layer of dried mud so the washing machine wouldn't work. Now that its cleaned it works, but over time a little puddle of water forms under the machine.
So im thinking that a seal went bad, causing a small leak that affected a bearing and also caused the build up of dirt on the sensor.
I dont know anything about washing machines but i plan to work on it myself since theres a few people that would fix it where I live. So if you could help me i would be very grateful.
So I think I need to do this th-cam.com/video/EQmpLMAsi8g/w-d-xo.html
Plus a bearing, where that would be located?
The bearing is on the transmission and can be very difficult to pull off from.
@@DuctTapeMechanic it'll be a great challenge me then... Anyways thank you for responding.
How can I get the part number you used? I have the exact same washing machine. Not sure which one to order.
Best thing to do is get the is search a website like www.appliancepartspro.com by model number of your washer. This will ensure you get the correct suspension rods
VERY HELPFUL TY!!!
As for the dog we all have neighbors like that! They're either incredibly rude or stupidly oblivious to the dog barking! Here's a tip just wrap some bologna around some chocolate and hopefully that solves the dog problem!😁
We took the rods out one by one and inspected them but nothing appeared to be wrong or broken with them on my dads whirlpool washer. Could they still be bad? The machine does shake and is loud on spin cycle and the foam pads on the left and right insides are worn through from the drum banging the sides. The front and rear pads look fine. The machine is maybe 5 years old.
Trying pushing the middle of the agitator down, if it bounces around like crazy that means the suspension rods are bad
My Maytag only grinds in agitation mode. Would that also be the clutch?
I would replace clutch and shifter (it could be a weak shifter). Both parts combined are only like $50
So what is actually wrong with the rods?
Where do you buy the replacement suspension rods
Appliance parts pro is a good site. You can also buy them from whirlpool
@@DuctTapeMechanic Thank y ou
The tension while watching this video was intense; then I realized that the barking dog was just like the border shootout scene in Sicario...
Neighbors dog was going crazy that day, it was frustrating trying to shoot this video
My tub is huge and no room to squeeze my arm down to lift the rod up into the top hole. So I used the clip end of my dog’s leash to grab the hook on the top of the rod and pull the it up thru the hole! HA!
Ingenious! Great job!
What’s the model number?
DuctTape Mechanic, hmm, first time I am here. First think came to mind was The Red Green show.
Do you need to replace all of them?
Yes all at the same time
How do u know if it is the rods or maybe machine is not balance?
Push down on the agitator if it bounces up and down like crazy its the rods.
I replaced my drain pump and then ran a wash cycle to make sure it was good. But the wife ran a load and now it shakes like freaking crazy! What did I do wrong??
Where do you get the parts from???
Amazon mostly
I did this repair and the washer still shakes. Any ideas?
Most likely inner tub is stripped from being overloaded
Most probably he’s right & your inner tub hub is stripped out. To check, look down into the tub and imagine there’s a clock. See if you can rock the inner tub 6-12 o’clock.
Depending on the model the hub can be replaced. If you’re not experience you need a guy like him to do it because it’s kinda “internal” & has multiple steps to it.
Most improbable your suspension rods are seated or is missing a plastic bearing, or are wrong length, or mistakenly reinstalled old rods, etc (all things I’ve seen happens but probably it’s the hub).
Good luck man 🙏
Its not always the rods on those. The hubs in the tub that connect to transmission go bad. They have a replacement kit that changes it from cheap plastic to metal
Yes sir! I have a video on hub replacement as well but probably should have mentioned that I'm here as well
Yea ran into a few of those thought it was rods but turned out bad hub. Live n learn. Don't really touch appliances anymore, strictly hvac now. Good vid tho 👌
@DuctTapeMechanic I changed the rods on mines and it still bangs around on spin cycle
Thank you , was looking for another reason for the violent shaking. Replaced my rods but still the same
What if I replaced these but it is still shaking bad
Most likely the tub nut is either loose or your tub is stripped in which you will need to purchase a new washer
Just push down the cap and duck tape the rod to prevent it from bouncing up.
I changed all 4 and it’s still banging around in the same manor. Any idea what else it could be?
Try replacing the basket drive hub. If that doesn't work, then your drum is wallered out and time for a new washer
@@DuctTapeMechanicmy washer is doing the same thing. My husband replaced the suspension rods. We thought that we fixed the problem but it shakes like crazy!!! It was shaking so hard to were it knocked loose the lid lock. I had you search for a video on how to attach that back. I recalibrated the washer bc we did not so that after replacing the suspension rods. We immediately washed a load of clothes.
After recalibrating the washer I was not shaking or bouncing around so we was relieved until more loads and it’s definitely driving us crazy. My husband went out to look for a new washer….it washes but when time to spin it goes crazy and can’t get out of that cycle……please help bc we’re ready to sit this in front the f the house for free pick up!!!!
The suprension are fine, what is my next move?
Basket drive hub replacement
I just replaced the suspension rod in my washing machine but when i used it, the machine is still banging
Mine too. I'm still looking to see what else it could be
dude!!
Yes!?
I changed the balancing rods and still bouncing around. Ugh.
Same here!!! I guess this guy was unaware that there must be another reason it does this inwhich this video does NOT fix the issue. I hate it when people say this is your problem & this will fix it, & it doesn’t whatsoever. You probably shouldn’t be making such claims then huh?
Hey so I replaced the rods and also the hub( plastic to metal swap). Still dancing around but not as often now.
Unfortunately that most likely means the inner tub of your washer is stripped
@@DuctTapeMechanic i had someone recommend to check if the shaft is bent. More likely than the inner tub being stripped hints why I asked you.
What’s the point in getting mad over someone giving you advice about your washer over the internet? You asked for free help, from someone who’s never seen your washer Alfonso, what did you expect?
The minute go search for suspension rods, every model, but mine. All they have for mine is a stupid cover.
Im ending strapping washer to a oallet after i change this stupid balance rods
Don't make the same mistake I did and get the cheap off-brand suspension rods they don't work. The problem wasn't fixed until I bought the more expensive rods.
Good advice!
Can you drop a link for the ones you got?
For sure buy a used non-governmental appliance that actually cleans clothes! Lots less money than the
over-regulated computerized hi dollar stuff they are trying to sell now! I bought an old school washer yesterday and am having my old washer refurbished. Talk about going green!
T
Help me please 😢I broke my sisters washer I’m freaking out
What did you do?
My friend repaired his washer to surprise his wife when she was out of town. When she saw what he did she told him to make it shake again or she was leaving him forever. Don’t come between a woman and her spin cycle!
p
So dumb not even funny when u mak the story up
This washer is only 2years old
Looks much older than that.
Explain it better brother
Not the right way to do it lay on front remove alll rods slide new in
Done it this way many times without any issues
Damn this dog annoying
Tell me about it!
Dude!!! That dog needs to go.
Agreed!
Talk tooooooo much
Well let's hope the video helped you with your problem
