This is by far the best, to-the-point guide on replacing the transmission. Fixed for me, too. The most trouble I had was the unit's four bolt sizes for the transmission - not 3/8". I had to work with 10mm. Thanks for the great show!
thank you so much for the video. saved me a lot. it was impossible to remove the transmission from mine. would not budge. finally grabbed a 30 lb. sledge hammer and banged it out to the very end.
Mine is three years old and just started doing this. At first it was squeaking and grinding like a bearing was going out. A few loads later this noise. Since then I have researched the replacement item and can buy it for around $150. Thanks to you I will be doing it with a handyman coworker at my work. Our shop has all the tools.
Ours doesn’t make noise while spinning like here…. Buuuuut, damn it makes a super hard knock at the end of spin cycle.. not sure what to do there. Just replaced the dogs in the agitator(noise is not new). I’m guessing it’s some sort of brake? If you have any ideas,I’d appreciate it. I like that fast forward ya got goin’.. cool to watch!
not sure if you figured it out, you can google your make and model or if you want to be sure, there is a part number on the actual part your can reference
I am having this problem with my whirlpool top loader. I have a mechanic coming next Wednesday. Do you think he will be able to fix it? I’m praying he doesn’t have to order the parts. I need to use my washer asap.
Excellent video. 9.9/10 just because I had a lot of trouble getting that plastic U-Clip back in the hub but i finally figured it out by shaving with a steak knife and whittling it down and then putting it all the way clicked in before I put the hub down over the transmission i had to force it down but after getting to the end of the job and spending over an hour just on that U-clip. (Last step) i was very relieved to see it was in, then i just tapped it back far enough to get the screw in that slot and I was able to tack it back into place.
thanks for the video. My problem is when it first 2 spin (when it rinse and spin), it's shaking the machine with a banging loud noise that it move the machine around. However, the last spining ( I assume less heavy load because the water is almost empty) is very quiet. Any advice?
So if I don’t have the extra $175 available till next payday(not for two weeks) and I can deal with the loud noise, is it ok to use the washer??? Basically, is it just annoying but since I can deal with the freight train in my washroom, it’s ok to wash clothes??? Really appreciate anyone that helps with their knowledge!
Eventually, the bearings will seize, and the drum will stop spinning (might also damage the tub seal/tub). Will that happen in two weeks? Probably not, but don't hold me to it, lol!
I encountered this problem after I replaced the actuator on my washer. That's crazy if my sealed bearings went the very next wash cycle after I replaced the actuator/tachometer
My mvwc565fw1 maytag washer bangs around even with no clothes in it. Replaced springs already same thing thing. What could be the problem. Would a bad transmission cause this?
I have an washer that just started doing this. It’s an older top-loading Frigidaire. It doesn’t have the sealed transmission box like this one. I’m looking for a video on how to fix it. I think it will be more complex than this repair, unfortunately.
What about Maytag washer that sounds exactly like tv or radio static. Only lasts 7-10 seconds . The weird thing is it sounds like radio static amplified by 20 arena rock speakers. It’s and ungodly noise and ends as abruptly as it starts . It does not sound mechanical and I don’t smell electrical or ozone, it always stops when I go to investigate and only shows up may be 1 in 19 cycles.
Mine sounds like its slipping and never engages in a full fast spin. Cranks up to spin, makes an awful noise and just lets it free spin until it winds down. Could this be the problem?
My whirlpool washer only screams during the braking cycle of spin, when it is trying to slow the tub from spinning. Any ideas. Is that a transmission issue as well?
If you have an older one chances are it just needs some grease around the basket drive where the brakes pads are located. That is IF it is a direct drive style whirlpool. You can unclip the pump off the motor, then drop the transmission with the motor still on it to get to the basket drive
There is a manual test mode that you can out the washing machine into which will allow you to test the spin and drain without water. There are a lot of good videos/instructions online on how to get into manual test mode. Perhaps I'll make a video on it in the future.
@@DuctTapeMechanic awesome sounds great thank you,it would be great to see a more detailed video and description into the manual test to know more about it and what to do and not to, in my case i just dismantled everything since well it seems it turned out to be the transmission after i bought the 2 pieces that we're above and below of it 😅 so yeap another washing machine cause Damm whirlpools are annoying

Sounds like a bad transmission, but I can't say for certain without being there. Try spinning the basket with your hand and listening for a howling noise

Pose video of your machine in the spin cycle because I want to actually hear the machine
Thank you for this video. It showed me this is not a DIY project that I can complete. Will be calling a repair person later today.

I would love to see the transmission repair. My transmission has rusted splines😢
Where do i find the part number for the transmission replacement? My washing machine looks just like the one from your video.

Sounds like bad suspension rods
What if it makes a grinding/screeching noise at the end of the spin cycle?
I have same problem
Mine did the same. I changed the pulley belt and solved the noise.
Thanks, my toploading Maytag screeches during spin cycle. Could it be the same problem? Also there is no tag with serial number on machine.
Most likely the same issue, particularly of you have a machine with 6 led lights followed by a pause play button (they are all made by whirlpool)
Check right underneath your lid… back side of the washer, top side of the drum,it’s kinda hidden…..ours had a upc, along with model number

My whirpool not only made loud noise, it shifted as well and cloth were not draining if I used large and super load.

Could be belt shipping. Those make all sorts of weird noises

Poor quality bearings!

love the name of your channel

The bearings are probably common. I’d like to see you try to replace them after removing trans and shaft. Might need a press.
You dont replace the bearings ,they are in the gearcase
Also replace the tub seal

Most likely the shift actuator. The part he pulls off at 3:30 in this video

Wd40 and a lot of rocking the wash plate up and down
