You probably will never see this comment but seriously THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! We have a baby due in two weeks and haven’t been able to laundry in a week. We just moved into a duplex so we’d have more space but had to buy our own washer and dryer. Could only afford a $135 used set and just about broke down because the washer wasn’t spinning. My husband followed this video and now it’s working like it’s brand new, seriously... I don’t think anyone would understand how much this has helped us 😫😫😫 I MEAN IT WAS A $5 FIX. WOW! THANK YOU
It's been years since this video was originally uploaded, but just know you are still making a difference in the lives of ordinary diy people! I identified the issue thanks to your video, Chris, and my husband was able to change the part after a next day Amazon shipment. We were then able to leave for our NYC trip without worrying about what to do once we got home. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us!

OMG, you're AMAZING!!!! My daughter and I fixed our washing machine using this video! Our problem was exactly the same as in the video (right down to the noise it made), including how the piece broke! The video was easy to follow which saved us HUNDREDS of dollars (slight exaggeration). Who needs Geico when you have ChrisFix (not the best analogy, but you get the gist of what we're saying). You rock, bro. I've been fixing stuff at home for a long time now, most repairs have been relatively easy but I'll tell ya - it often takes longer to find a video that is clear, fast and minus all the blah, blah, blah than it does to do the actual repair! You provide perfectly clear, easy to follow, easy to see directions with no ten minute intro featuring your dog. Not that I have a problem with people's dogs - I'm just here to learn something! The Repair Clinic video for this same fix instructs people to remove the case! Oh, my god, why? That's a huge waste of time. Also no need to detach the wiring harness, which they also advise, though at least that only adds a few seconds. I found it best for me to lay the washer down on its back. The rest was no sweat. I paid 8 bucks for the part, obviously up in price from 8 years ago. For people never doing it before, don't expect 10 minutes to fix, though. Took me an hour, but that includes cleaning the underside, gathering tools, setting up a light, disconnecting hoses, putting it all back. I call that a win. 8 bucks, one hour - thanks, man. I'll be checking your vids first in the future!
I was about to buy a new washer when I found your video. I'm not a mechanic or a regular handyman, but your video was clear and my wife is now washing laundry again with our 20-year-old Roper washing machine. Thank You.
I would sincerely like to thank you for this CLEAR and EASY to follow tutorial! Replacement part came in the same day and now my clothes are being washed, as we speak. Once again, THANK YOU!

I have a front loader now, but I remember working kenmore machines with my dad back in the day and changing these couplers. Wish we thought of a jack stand used a cinder block. Lol Still watched regardless of what's being fixed. I remember when the videos were labeled for difficulty and other changes. I'm glad you keep your older content, it's nice to go back and watch from time to time.

I looked at one video, it was replacing something up top with the control board. I was so upset thinking about costs of a new washer, giving up and ready to turn off the tv, then the next video came on “hey guys Chris fix here” I perked up so fast, seen a similar model washer and the noise sound was the same sound I was hearing, then he said it was a pretty cheap part 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🎊🥳🎉🍾 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽once again, Chris fix saved the day! Thank you for posting this! I watched this excellent friendly, low-key, straight-forward presentation, ordered the part, and got my machine back in operation in about a half hour (took my time). The jack-stand idea is genius!
THANK YOU!!!! You helped me diagnose and fix my whirlpool washing machine tonight. Although it took me 2 hours because I couldn’t align the motor back (I ended up putting the coupler directly into the machine and not the motor), I made it work!!!! The whirlpool design isn’t as good as the kenmore one. I had to ask my brother to hold the white plastic pump the entire time lol. Thank you thank you!
Hey Chris! I forgot to thank you for this one, saved me tons of money instead of trashing my old washing machine I found your vid and knew it would be a good fix. Mine had the exact same problem, just my motor was in a different location but it turned out to be such a simple fix, and I can keep my washer longer now! Thanks so much man!
The farther back you can lay over the machine, the easier it will be w/o having to remove the cabinet. Beyond 45º worked well. The weight of the motor will assist in re-seating the motor to the transmission. I used a dab of dishwashing liquid on the plastic tabs of the coupler to make it easier to slide the motor onto the seated coupler in the transmission. A rubber mallet is a must. Not quite the "5-minute job" Chris billed it to be, but still HUGE cudos to him for providing this video and enabling me to avaoid a call to the Maytag [in this case, Kenmore] repair man! Thanks, Chris!
yes, but then you'd want to remove the H and C supply hoses and the drain hose. So instead put a bucket or paint can BEHIND the machine when tilting it back so you don't have to take off the hoses etc.
Another important reason NOT to lay the washer entirely down on the floor-there’s a vent hole on the top surface of the gear case and it can leak oil. It is nearly impossible to refill this oil and a new gear case is big bucks$.
Thanks for the great instructional video. Took mine apart in less than 3 minutes with your instructions, ordered part now $7, waiting for part to arrive tomorrow to install. Thanks again. Can’t believe it was that easy.
I owe you at least one case of beer. I couldn't get a repair company to come out to fix our washer. We have three adults and one newborn baby in the house, we needed our washing machine. Your diagnosis was spot on. The Amazon part number was right. Your step-by-step instructions where also spot on. The only difference in my machine was that there were only clips and not bolts holding everything together. 10 minutes start to finish. Thanks Again!
@ChrisFix - You taught me car repair and gave me the confidence to do so much more than I ever thought I'd be able to do on my own in my very own driveway, but I must admit - I never ever would've thought you'd show me how to fix my washing machine as well. From the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU!!

Thank you!! I've got to see if I can find the part but this sound exactly like my issue. Whether this does or does not fix my issue, wanted you to know that I think you did a great job with making this video. It's very clear, understandable and you make sure we get a good look at the parts on the machine.
OMG! I know this video was published years ago, I just happened to come across it. This was the exact issue my Washing machine was having. I was ready to just scrap it and spend hundreds of dollars on a new one. My part cost a little more ($30), but I was able to get it today and swap it out thanks to this video. Chris, you are the man!!!! I'm now a subscriber.
Thank you for this video, it was awesome!!! My Dad and I just fixed our machine. Not sure where you are but here in Ontario Canada our part cost us $ 27.58 😬 but hey better that than a $900 on a new machine!
Hey man, my washing machine took a crap a few days ago. I looked up videos and figured out it was the coupler, but they had me thinking I had to take the control panel off and remove the outer shell or whatever. Soon as I got the coupler, I went back to TH-cam to follow the steps, and I found your video. You saved me alot of time, and I now have clean underwear. Many thanks.
Well done sir! Worked just like you demonstrated and saved me a bundle! I’m not that handy and yet, your video gave me enough confidence to get the job done. Thank you.
Thanks for the vid, Chris. This is why it's awesome to have a back-catalog of your old stuff -- there are still a TON of these old Kenmore washers around, and they're increasingly likely to need this type of simple repair. This is why I've watched your channel go from barely 5 digits, to nearly 5 million subs.

Thank you , this was the best video I’ve seen to fix this. I am a single mom and your video help me fix my own washer. No man wanted to fix it for me or they wanted to charge me $100 to fix, when the part was only $8 bucks on Amazon. Your easy step video was the truth!!! Thank you! ❤
Thank you so much for this video!! I fixed it all by myself and saved hundreds! I really like how you went through it step by step and even put a link to the part I needed. Thank you!!!
I’m stuck at home with pneumonia and my washing machine won’t spin. I watched your video and ordered the part from Amazon. Even though I’m dazed and short of breath from the pneumonia, I was able to prop the machine up, pull the motor off, and successfully change out the part. I still feel like crap, but at least I don’t have to smell bad, too. Your video is the best. Thank you very much!

"It's a 2 dollar part!" "It's a 5 minute job!" "Let me show you how to replace it now that we've identified the problem" Great video bro! It's quick and to the point.
Saved my washing machine thanks to you!! I thought it was done after 20 yrs. The part was $16 at a local shop. I didn't want to wait for the $8 coupler on Amazon ( side note- the part sizing was off, and used the old part for side that didn't level out). Took me longer 30-40 min because of lack of tools and space. Glad I was able to diagnose and repair it because of your video!
Chris I can't thank you enough man. Same exact washer same exact noise. Wife called me frantic when I was at work. Hopped on TH-cam after I researched the potential problem and there you are in a washing machine video and not a car one haha! Just finished putting in the part and we are back in business. From one Chris to another You are a lifesaver dude! Thank you!
Gagik Ginosyan they are the best and easiest to work on . The new ones are nothing like these so hold on to these old whirlpool/ Kenmore / roper washing machines if you have them. They are truly the best you can get these days 👍👍
I just fixed my old Whirlpool washer with this video as my guide. Took me about 2 hours rather than 10 minutes. My laundry room was so cramped, I could not lean the washer back very far; I had to rest my arms and feel blindly to detach and attach the top clips But your video helped me visualize the tasks. And now the washer works. Thank you! P.S. In 2020, the price of the coupler is $5.89, but that's peanuts compared to the repair person (who is unavailable anyway due to covid-19.)
Our washer just quit spinning, and out loud I said “If only ChrisFix made videos on how to fix this.” Guess he’s not just a car guy after all! Thanks man, your videos have really helped me.
Thanks man! One video had me trying to take the shell off first. I was like, What a pain in the ass. Has to be an easier way... Found your vid. Jack stand and a straight screedriver, DONE! Lol, I didn't need the 1/4. Apparently this machine was worked on before because they didn't put those back in! Hah Keep creating brotha!
Thank you so much, I watched your video, ordered the part, came home from work this morning, and salvaged my dead washing machine in less than a half hour. Greatly appreciate your channel.
Just wanted to thank you! Made my job easier with the car jack method. The coupler is now $18 ... but much cheaper and quicker than calling a mechanic! I also enjoy your other videos for years...Thank you again!

You make it look not too difficult. I love the way you explain as if you are talking to a novice. Some people know their stuff but don't know how to teach it to others. Great work. I hope this works for me. I will update when I am done.
@@SwagJaws It works fine now. I used the jackstand and but I didn't have to purchase the part. I removed both hoses from the motor/filter. I couldn't see any obstruction so I blew on the hoses. The one that goes to the outside drain hose, had some resistance and I blew until there was none. I reassembled the unit and it works great. Thanks.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! I couldn’t readily find a repairman; watched your video, bought the piece and changed it myself. My girls and mom were so proud!😊

Glad it helped
I bet that can hold a whole bunch of soapy wooder.
Fosty plenty blinker fluid

This happens when you overload the washing machine..Ive replaced 4 couplers.. on the same washing machine, still working after 11 years..this is now 2021 and the couplers cost $7.00 on amazon.. this is the best video i have seen on youtube for this fix..thanks for sharing
I like how you don’t only work on cars but other things too
Thanks Saul! Anything to help people!

@@chrisfix You are a great guy
Thanks!! Best video I could find for fixing my washing machine. Instructions worked perfectly. Very detailed. Excellent instructional video!
Great job with the camera angles and editing. 2 of the most underappreciated elements of a great fix-it video. Thanks for the effort!
Who would've thought I would be watching ChrisFix on how to fix my washer. lol
You just saved me a bunch of money. I found the part for $18, and it took me about fifteen minutes to fix, but it's working like a champ.
I'm glad the video saved you some money!
OK, This guy drives and fixes cool cars, once gave amazing automotive career advice to my son, teaches automotive repair and maintenance AND just taught me how to fix my washer. We LOVE this guy!
This was a pleasant surprise. I am so used to you working on cars Chris. Nice video.
On the one hand you made that look way easier than it was! 😅 On the other hand, and more importantly, this video was a life saver! Well shot with clear closeups - nicely done!
Thank you , this was the best video I’ve seen to fix this. I am a single mom and your video help me fix my own washer. No man wanted to fix it for me or they wanted to charge me $100 to fix, when the part was only $8 bucks on Amazon. Your easy step video was the truth!!! Thank you! ❤
Thanks Chris, changed out the coupler on my 22yr old Whirlpool washer.
Ahhhhh finally. Most mechanics fix all kinds of things around the house and we finally get a video. Love it hahaha!
I am a pro appliance tech with my own business and I sent this vide to a customer to do a self repair and they said it was excellent! 5 stars
Thank you so much for this video!! I fixed it all by myself and saved hundreds! I really like how you went through it step by step and even put a link to the part I needed. Thank you!!!
I so much agree! Even though I paid $7 for the piece, your instructions were great! I know I saved!

As described! What an excellent and informative tutorial. EVERYTHING was exactly the deal.... right down to vacuuming around the dust around the bottom of the appliance. Thank you so much for bothering to do this. From Manitoba, Canada! :)
"It's a 2 dollar part!"
"It's a 5 minute job!"
"Let me show you how to replace it now that we've identified the problem"
Great video bro! It's quick and to the point.
On these days with 2 dollars you only can get a bolt and small size nut,
It took more than 15minutes to raise up the washer, by yourself along.
Wonder if hes ever going to do a chrisfix relationship. Lol

Thank you!

i had this on my old washer, great design and these machines last a while
Gagik Ginosyan they are the best and easiest to work on .

Just visiting from LTT’s TH-cam charging for 4K video 😛
Omg, thank you thank you, this is a Great video i fix my own washer, im so happy i didn’t have to buy a new washer
Our washer just quit spinning, and out loud I said “If only ChrisFix made videos on how to fix this.” Guess he’s not just a car guy after all! Thanks man, your videos have really helped me.
Excellent video Chris. Just the information I needed. These old machines are built like tanks - ours has been going for over 34 years! :-)
Hah
Keep creating brotha!
Thank you so much, I watched your video, ordered the part, came home from work this morning, and salvaged my dead washing machine in less than a half hour. Greatly appreciate your channel.
Excellent tutorial, much appreciated!! You have every detailed covered and thank you for not having any music or fowl language!!!

Just wanted to thank you! Made my job easier with the car jack method. The coupler is now $18 ... but much cheaper and quicker than calling a mechanic!
I also enjoy your other videos for years...Thank you again!

It works like a charm!
Thanks! I am going to order the part right now. I have a jack stand in the basement because my son left it there many years ago. Thanks again. I am a 69 year old female. You make it look not too difficult. I love the way you explain as if you are talking to a novice. Some people know their stuff but don't know how to teach it to others. Great work. I hope this works for me. I will update when I am done.
@@rippygirl423 Hey how did the repair go?
@@SwagJaws It works fine now. I used the jackstand and but I didn't have to purchase the part. I removed both hoses from the motor/filter. I couldn't see any obstruction so I blew on the hoses. The one that goes to the outside drain hose, had some resistance and I blew until there was none. I reassembled the unit and it works great. Thanks.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! I couldn’t readily find a repairman; watched your video, bought the piece and changed it myself. My girls and mom were so proud!😊
Whoa whoa whoa hold on, where's the jack ? Where's the torque wrench ?

Hey Chris -
Great quick fix and a step by step to repair the washing machine coupling -
always like watching your videos as all the other you tube people will agree .
Pete Moss Thanks Pete! It means a lot!
ChrisFix I have a frigidaire horizon 2000 washer machine and I don't know how to do this
This is a very good video you always explain step by step short and sweet in all your videos. My issue was I have a 18 year old washer and the clutch was slipping and I should have replaced the coupler at the same time it broke after I replaced the clutch.
I thought you only worked on cars Lmao.
