We just moved into a duplex so we’d have more space but had to buy our own washer and dryer. Could only afford a $135 used set and just about broke down because the washer wasn’t spinning. My husband followed this video and now it’s working like it’s brand new, seriously... I don’t think anyone would understand how much this has helped us 😫😫😫 I MEAN IT WAS A $5 FIX. WOW! THANK YOU

I have that EXACT MODEL Washing Machine! I bought the coupler, took it apart and noticed that my Coupler WAS NOT DAMAGED. I changed it anyway. Then upon re-assembly I found the REAL PROBLEM: One of my Pump Retaining Brackets was Rusted and Brittle causing the Pump to dislodge from the Motor during the Spin Cycle which made the washer make that "same sound" when it's not turning. I'm getting another Pump Retainer Bracket tomorrow and my issue will be resolved. Thanks Chris for pointing me in the right direction!!!

Thanks for the vid, Chris. This is why it's awesome to have a back-catalog of your old stuff -- there are still a TON of these old Kenmore washers around, and they're increasingly likely to need this type of simple repair.
This is why I've watched your channel go from barely 5 digits, to nearly 5 million subs.

I work on family and friends vehicles and she knew your content would be something I would enjoy watching and very informative. I haven't missed one since.
Though I can't believe I never stumbled across this one with the washer repair. I have a front loader now, but I remember working kenmore machines with my dad back in the day and changing these couplers. Wish we thought of a jack stand used a cinder block. Lol
Still watched regardless of what's being fixed. I remember when the videos were labeled for difficulty and other changes. I'm glad you keep your older content, it's nice to go back and watch from time to time.

You rock, bro. I've been fixing stuff at home for a long time now, most repairs have been relatively easy but I'll tell ya - it often takes longer to find a video that is clear, fast and minus all the blah, blah, blah than it does to do the actual repair! You provide perfectly clear, easy to follow, easy to see directions with no ten minute intro featuring your dog. Not that I have a problem with people's dogs - I'm just here to learn something! The Repair Clinic video for this same fix instructs people to remove the case! Oh, my god, why? That's a huge waste of time. Also no need to detach the wiring harness, which they also advise, though at least that only adds a few seconds. I found it best for me to lay the washer down on its back. The rest was no sweat. I paid 8 bucks for the part, obviously up in price from 8 years ago. For people never doing it before, don't expect 10 minutes to fix, though. Took me an hour, but that includes cleaning the underside, gathering tools, setting up a light, disconnecting hoses, putting it all back. I call that a win. 8 bucks, one hour - thanks, man. I'll be checking your vids first in the future!

I’m blown away, I been watching Chris fix for years about my car. My washer just broke yesterday, it makes a horrifying grinding noise, I researched it and couldn’t quite describe my issue to get the right results. I looked at one video, it was replacing something up top with the control board. I was so upset thinking about costs of a new washer, giving up and ready to turn off the tv, then the next video came on “hey guys Chris fix here” I perked up so fast, seen a similar model washer and the noise sound was the same sound I was hearing, then he said it was a pretty cheap part 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🎊🥳🎉🍾 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽once again, Chris fix saved the day! I had no idea he had this type of content. I’m so happy. Please, Never stop repairing things bc you are out here saving lives! I am grateful. The farther back you can lay over the machine, the easier it will be w/o having to remove the cabinet. Beyond 45º worked well. The weight of the motor will assist in re-seating the motor to the transmission. I used a dab of dishwashing liquid on the plastic tabs of the coupler to make it easier to slide the motor onto the seated coupler in the transmission. A rubber mallet is a must. Not quite the "5-minute job" Chris billed it to be, but still HUGE cudos to him for providing this video and enabling me to avaoid a call to the Maytag [in this case, Kenmore] repair man! Thanks, Chris!

    • @steverahe

yes, but then you'd want to remove the H and C supply hoses and the drain hose. So instead put a bucket or paint can BEHIND the machine when tilting it back so you don't have to take off the hoses etc.

Another important reason NOT to lay the washer entirely down on the floor-there’s a vent hole on the top surface of the gear case and it can leak oil. It is nearly impossible to refill this oil and a new gear case is big bucks$.

  • @rjhilton10

I have an older whirlpool top load washer from the early 90's that recently stopped working. It filled and drained the drum like normal but neither the agitator nor the drum would spin. The clothes basically just sat in still water for 15 minutes. Thankfully my washer design is almost exactly like the Kenmore in this video, so every step that Chris does matches with my washer too. I checked under the washer and found lots of shredded plastic and broken prongs from the old coupler. I knew immediately that I had the same issue from the video. Every step was the same as Chris described, except the coupler I used was really hard to get on the motor and transmission shafts. that caused a 15 minute job to turn into 2 hours. I had to use a hammer to get them on, and it still took well over an hour to get them both on. After that everything else just fell into place. I'm so thankful for this video, this video and an $8 coupler saved me from having to spend several hundreds of dollars to replace my washer. It works just like before! I'm glad there's a channel likes Chris' that encourages regular people to perform their own repairs.

I was able to fix my washing machine thanks to your video (03/04/2023). I have never even heard of this part (and my uncle used to be a repair man for all appliances. RIP). My washing machine was 30 years old, but for mine, the plastic arms had broken like the video shows, but also my black rubber piece was totally worn out and actually it had big worn out gaps where these arms go into; so it was a double failure of that part. Thanks for doing so well on explaining this process. THANK YOU!

Maybe could have found it cheaper somewhere else but had to get it done pronto. Thanx for the very good graphics and explanatory steps. I know you did this video tutorial 6 years ago but I just found it because I have the exact same model number washer & dryer as you do. Should I ever have this problem in the future, I have this to reference how to fix it. So far, the only thing I had to fix was the broken auger (the top part of the agitator) which was not spinning. That was one of the fastest and easiest fixes I've ever done on a washer. Like in this video, my repair only costed me $6.00. What needed replacing were the four dogs inside the auger. Only tool needed was a ratchet with a 7/16 socket on an extender. Thanks Chris for doing this fix.
