While I agree, I'm kind of sad that this only confirms the fact that what we started out with was a glorified Beta. I'm guessing HG intended the initial release to be the finished product, but the community made it fairly clear we expected more from the game.
Yes, I like this. Sean, You may have ran the indie dev name through the dirt, but a couple more free expansions like this and you and No Man's sky may end up like an inspiration for new beginning artists. Even if you mess up, it's not too late to correct your name.

Your comment is very narrow minded. Sean has to prove to us that he has failed, instead of scammed us. He can do this by delivering the game people paid for. albeit 6 months due. The studio's name will never recover from this massive blow but the indie dev's name doesn't need to bare the same faith.

The most important part of this update is that Hello Games saw the hate, and instead of running away with all the money they made they actually tried to fix the game. That takes balls. If Sony hadn't forced them to release early, this might have been a really good game, and I believe it still can be. This update certainly fixes a lot, and it also shows that HG is listening to it's community. Next up they might add multiplayer, ground vehicles, spaceship customisation.... there's a whole universe of possibilities out there ^-^

Multiplayer would add absolutely nothing to this game. Just take a screenshot.
Even though it's bad that they removed the feature from the final release without warning it honestly wouldn't have added anything to the game. They even said it would be extremely unlikely that you would actually meet someone during your entire play-through. The player base has shrunk significantly since it's launch so it's even less likely that you will find anyone to actually interact with.

Even if you could easily find friends on the map it would likely take forever to find them since there spawn location will probably be many light years away from you.
Keep it up and you might regain back some of the respect you lost.

I still have my disc. I'm willing to give you guys another shot. I hope this game becomes something great.
My first impressions are overall positive. The base building starts out simple, with additional modules blocked off until prerequisites are met. The prerequisites force you to go off world and find additional materials that aren't available everywhere, so it makes exploration more interesting. They've also changed how you charge your components in a way that makes gathering specific materials more necessary. (There is now a reason to make power gel, for example)
Now, for me, this is an improvement that will see me coming back for at least a little while. Only time will tell if I enjoy this in the long term. Hell, it took me about a week before I started to feel the game grow stale. I hope they meant it when they said this was the first of many, because though it feels like a substantial update, there will definitely need to be more to come.
So, initial verdict is, it's better, but it's still not $60 better.If youhave it, it's worth checking out, and if you don't have the game, and you can get it pretty cheap (I'd say around $20) it might be worth it. Maybe I'm wrong though, and the base building will keep me engaged and interested for a long time. I guess we'll see. (Further updates will likely be impeded though, since Final Fantasy XV is out in less than two hours)
No problem! If you hated the game, I don't think this update will change any minds, but if you felt the original release had potential, definitely worth checking out, though I wouldn't shell out $60 for it.
But yeah, Final Fantasy. I don't know how I've lasted this long with the wait. Here's to hoping it's a good one!

Coming back again again, and watching all the trailers to reflect on just how much work they put in to make this game what it is today. Been here since launch when I preordered it from Amazon and we now have the Frontiers Update! It is becoming the game we wanted and more! Honestly I look back at the 2014 trailer and think that it was nothing compared to what we have now with all the features it contains. We can own creatures, oversee a settlement, create our own bases, fight sentinels with a mech suit, fight aliens on destroyed freighters, go underwater in our submarines and create bases there, we have real multiplayer instead of being just orbs, upgrade our ships and exocraft, etc. Hello Games I won't forget the beginning but I will equally never forget how it went on and how it ends.
I really feel the rush to release "No Nan's Sky" put it into an early-access state, and not a lot of the planned features were in the game. So I think that this should be more along the lines of update v0.2
Regardless Sean, as your father, I'm proud to see you sticking with this project, come rain or shine.
Now, the question will be, can we attack ai freighters? Can we see other bases and homeplanents, even if we can't see the players?

Have to admit, i did not hate No Mans Sky, even though it failed to delivery what was promised. But so much hate for Hello Games surprises me. People saying they will not give them another chance to finish the game, but i bet a lot of these people still buy games by EA and Ubisoft all the time. Even though these company's lie to, and rip of their customers all the time. Hello games had good intentions i'm sure, but quickly realised they had bit off too much. Sure they could have handled things better, and they will have learned a lot from this. This update does look very good, and i'm sure No Mans Sky will be a fantastic game in the end for those that hang in there
There's a huge difference in the degree of misrepresentation and flat out lies. Ubisoft and EA do not usually flat out lie; Sean did. A lot. Most of what Sean said was a lie. He said things that were hand crafted were procedural generation, for instance, in order to promote the game. Ubisoft and EA may exaggerate and misrepresent but I have never seen them flat out lie.
I beat No Man's Sky and have no problem with the game. I think there were a lot of poor design decisions involved in making it and Sean was too ignorant of game development to understand that he couldn't deliver on his promises and, as a game dev, that's bad for the industry. If they take the tens of millions they made off the game and put it into making the game something better, then that's a good step towards making up for the deception but they likely will never regain the reputation they lost. This should have been an early access indie game but if they had done that, they wouldn't have sold even 1% as many copies.
The problem is Ubisoft will constantly strive and work hard to get their games back to functional level. They constantly update and are very open to what they are fixing. The Division and RS6 are prime examples of this. Both rocky games to start with but are now extremely well made and genuinely enjoyable to play again.

EA and Ubisoft are the exact reason why the industry is where its at. Annual games with just enough change to merit it but only barely. Content pulled from games only to be sold as DLC. They made it so only established franchises were viable and then out-bought them. Indies was the result of this, where innovation could thrive, but then kickstarters ruined it. Now the big companies compete with 2 man indie companies that sells dreams and can legally keep the money without the work. Kinda hard to sell to shareholders why you cant ship a half finished broken game when the competition gets golden on promises alone.

Agree with force, this isn't a "promise" this is a patch. I am very critical of hello games and I feel they certainly blundered but I spent the 60 euro, may as well have them update the game to match that pricepoint. it's too late, but I certainly welcome it.
I mean, it's live right now. So you can test whether or not it meets your expectations by booting it up. That's their new strategy it seems, don't show anything until it's actually in the game already.

This is a good point, you're right it's not live on pc. I did just check and looked at a stream on Twitch to verify that the ps4 version is live though. And it is, saw the guy doing base building and stuff so that is indeed in.

Friendly reminder that Hello Games has still not admitted that they lied about multiplayer being in the game. The last thing they said about it was that "server issues" were preventing players from seeing each other.
Still doesn't mean that it will still be a feature, the big problem was most likely testing, because you cannot test every single piece of hardware and try out this server to correctly guess if out of hundreds of thousands of players, 2 of them are in the same system.

And FYI, player interaction doesn't work on a hardware to hardware basis. I'm guessing you haven't actually seen how an MMO with thousands of players can sync them all up on the same location on the same server at the same time.
MyDreamCrusher You're working with seeds, not coordinates, every star is generated and thrown away, otherwise the game would be gigantic with 2^64 stars with who fucking knows how many bits of precision else all the stars would be in the increment, so you have to match seeds with other players, sorry but you can't assume it's that easy. Not only with the seed problem but the problem with testing, there is absolutely no way in studio that you can test or troubleshoot weather or not this feature works, for all I know they could have it working over LAN.
I have dignity, but seeing the obvious direction to destroy every studio that develops anything ever I try to fill in some possibilities of actions, realistic actions from the other side.
Frautcres It might not necessarily be easy, but the fact remains that this has absolutely nothing to do with hardware compatibility as you were suggesting. And if the whole thing was as complicated as you were suggesting, then they should have just flat out said that multiplayer isn't going to be possible, instead of continuing to spin a lie over and over again and then not admit it's a lie even after the game was released.
Supporting anti-consumer practices as a consumer, or in other words defending things that do not benefit you whatsoever but in fact do the exact opposite (because you're so invested in a product) shows a blatant lack of dignity. How about supporting developers that actually deserve it, the ones that don't lie in order to promote their games?

I think they knew it wasn't complete, and decided to release it anyway so they would srop getting death threats. It explains why they were so silent when the crapstorm that was the reception came their way. They simply weren't done, and they decided to update the game, like minecraft.
It also explains the "No Man's Sky was a mistake" post that they claimed in 8 confusing updates was a hack on their account. Someone must've cracked and they were doing damage control to keep everything as discrete and blurry as they could.

What many people who bought this game never realized or forgot is this is a indie game. Like all Most procedural games before it (Minecraft, Terraria, StarBound) is that it often updated to the games we know and love. It was shipped to soon or not explained that this is not a finished game, but a game that is built as its going.
Minecraft was already big in the alpha, and in the beta there was a shit ton of progress before it came out.
NMS is a game that went on a press tour and decided to mention multiplayer as one of the main features.
The game itself its a well built game, the thing that pisses me off its they lied a little bit on the marketing campaign, but its whatever now
Minecraft cost $0, then $5, and was incomplete until it's release where it was a fully fleshed out game (with multiplayer)

It'll be awesome if we could set up a defense system in our base so if anything wanted to attack it we could defend it....this making the bases destructible wich is hard to balance, yes I know buttttttt

The chances of actually finding another player are less than the chances of you being hitler himself, even if two players were in the exact same location, they would be on there own server.
Reese it can be managed....people did it in the first week of release but to the see that it was a lie....Maybe include a clan system and make it possible to join your friends from invited to their house...thatd be nice

I really hope they're able to turn this game into their original vision. Look at Final Fantasy 14. Just because a game has a terrible launch doesn't mean that it can't eventually become something incredible.

THANK YOU for coming through, the update looks and feels so awesome.
While this is definitely a step in the right direction, I think you guys should focus on adding the things that were originally promised to be in the game but never were; like actual working solar systems with orbits and planet rotation, smoother more intuitive flight capabilities for the ships, fuller ecosystems with more diverse life, and more varied inviorments. But the fact that you guys are trying to improve the game and add new content gives me hope that these issues will eventually get addressed. I *want* No Man's Sky to do well, to be the game we were all told it would be. And that's gonna take time, effort, and a whole lotta guts to polish this piece of coal that was promised to be a diamond.

I can't get over how great this game has become! I'm over 500 hours in and still discovering new things like... all the time.
Adding base-building was one of the best choices they made, imo. It seems a bit limiting at first, but once you get into it (and learn how to glitch-build and make logic gates) the possibilities are endless! Plus, there's the fact that you can now build literally anywhere you want!

Please, add multiple biomes for every planet, like a desert or a big ocean. That would improve a lot.

You haven't been: killed behind cover, haven't had issues with hit detection, haven't seen how planes bounce around and teleport like they're connected to the ground with rubber bands, selected a plane or tank and spawned without your vehicle, experienced the thrill of player models standing where the players are not then turning invisible when you aren't aiming directly at them, etc, etc, etc,

Nice, keep adding more stuff for the Base Building/Constructions and then Ship Customization/Constructions with Online Co-op up to with 3 friends, while loading all the custom buildings that have been created by other players when entering their planet and you got yourself a good game.

The closest game to No Man's Sky is Elite: Dangerous. Frontier studios has 300 total employees. The team was way to small for No Mans Sky to be successful.The game was doomed from the start way before Sony would have came in.

Why do people down vote a video of a game adding more content? The only reason is probably people still salty about No Man Sky, or those people who say "Should of been in the game to start with", when the creator never said anything like this. Just accept it so we can see how far it would go..... Would you want to waste 60$ or make the game comeback.

"MIGHT" needs like 5 to 7 more updates at this caliber. Making planets better and introducing new types of planet needs to be the next one. If they keep this up it will be good in 1-2 years.
Yeah, I'm probably going to hold off playing this game until at least five or more actual Content Updates get added, One because if i just Play from Update to Update i will get bored quicker as the new content can only keep you so invested, so I'll wait until a substantial amount of new stuff is added so when i come back it will feel much bigger and I'll have more to discover when it starts (As Sean said in Interviews he wants Players to discover so) Also I'm waiting for the game to be less "Broken" because i just hopped in to give the game a try and it crashed five minutes into playing it... so... yeah, that killed my enthusiasm, really need to fix the crashing as well, Too scared to play it in it's current state, worried it will crash on me every five minutes... but still i have hope for this game (But seriously if we don't get the Lush Sand-Planet with the Giant Dune Worms then that is just.... Shit) Especially because most of the planets are just so Bland and ugly to look at at the moment.

They were promised the ability to see other people, but it being virtually impossible to ever find your friends. *NOBODY EVER SAID IT WAS MULTIPLAYER.* I know they lied about certain features, but it's really fucking annoying to see people say they lied about multiplayer because they didn't. The people heard you can see others, then assumed it was co-op multiplayer, and got pissed because it wasn't. Be mad about the real reasons to be mad about. Not the ones you made up.

maybe they just couldnt bring much in the fame because the resources were limited.

the thumbs down people on this video are ban waggin **** boyz. They bought a game from a indi-Dev didnt like that the small team was unable to get everything they wanted into the game at launch. Now what did they do .....OH YA they sold the game back put in bad reviews...yada yada yada. Now they are still trying to online TROLL. this game has been everything i thought it would be. out side of the the not being able to die while on crazy bad planets. Some of you that like the video im sure sold the game right off the bat cuz you didnt think it lived up to what THE HYPE. thats whats wrong with space RPG/mmo games. HYPE kills them. i like the game i put in probly like 200 hrs on it just travaling around, exploreing, saveing trader ships. this adds a whole new lvl to the game. its more like the alpha videos they release with them saying this is what we want to have in the game. The haters of this game should go Hate on star citizen. that game made millions on its kickstarter and is charging players $50-420,000 just to play an ALPHA game. ELITE is kinda the same way as no mans sky. i dont see hordes of you hunting down those devs to make the game better or ask why you have to pay for a sub to get ingame content that should be in the base game. Did very well with the game the we're forced to release early the blame should be on Sony they were the large company that put there hands in on the game and set the release date. then when the game wasn't where hello wanted it they released it any way. Sony just want a big Hype payout. It's the new thing now a days to release alphas do nothing with them make a 100k to a few mill and walk away. hello made a huge universe the dabble in and for what it was on release the money for the game. Well it wasn't over priced at all. Elite is $40 plus $ $40 sub with just as much content as this game. just with out being be to have fps combat. all in all they game didn't need the hate it got. it was and is a great pass time play. huge world to explore and you can see from this update that it's going to get bigger. and become something amazing. you have your opinion on this game I have my own. I understand both sides. I won't bash you for it. I just want a to look at the bigger picture. The game is fun learning the alain languages and explore the world, and figuring out the story was worth the money to me. To other they wanted EVE, minecraft, and borderlands all mixed in one to make this sexy baby of a game. Hello games I feel did a pretty good job at that.

Joe Grubb I really like exploration, and I was really excited about a game where the main objective is to explore. But there's just NOTHING to do, in 20 minutes you've easily found everything that a planet can offer. Why would I settle down on a planet, when the main objective is to EXPLORE. IT MAKES NO SENSE!?! Maybe they gave up on exploring....
Not if you're playing survival mode. It won't be easy to jump from planet to planet anymore.
Please don't give up on the game, sure it was overpriced, but it's a good foundation for what could be an amazing game.
This generation showed us that games like Driveclub can launch with a really really rocky start, but with constant devotion and updates, and never giving up on the thing they built, it can really win back the respect and love from gamers. Hello Games, your game can be the next Driveclub - keep going, don't give up. This video was impressive!
This is a nice update but honestly, I have deeply loved No Mans Sky ever since it's release. This game has been nothing short of amazing to me and I hope Hello Games and Sean Murray aren't too thwarted by all the hate, because there are still fans and supporters of what the game already is.

Gotta respect their decision to actually bring out an update of this size despite so few people still playing it and the horrible recption of the game. If these patches will actually save the game remains to be seen though.
There's nothing to respect, the update is just in time for the winter sales so they can milk a few more sales.
