Is it just me, or does the generation in this video look so much better than whats currently in the game?
The terrain generation was much better up until the "Next" update, after that, they simplified alot of things.
This is the game I'm more excited about on E3.
It surprised me in such different levels... I once had a dream similar to this and I remember clearly saying to a friend: "Can you imagine having a game where you can explore the universe? Leaving your planet, going to another but as a open-world game?"

The original trailer is looking a bit basic compared to what we have now. Two things I'd like the current game to have from this though is the misty/hazy atmosphere and deeper sounds for large animals like the dinosaurs have.

Despite the "unreal" proportion when leaving / entering planets, its a pretty awesome game.
For these kind of games, I wouldn't make it too realistic in that matter. It'd be really annoying to wait too long to leave/enter a planet.
Henry Apolito Yeah, but what if you are in a huge war on a planet, then you just try to do a loop to baffle enemy and BAM, you are in space. They could adjust the proportion and then add a limited propulsion system to let you leave/enter atmosphere faster.

It's funny because this is the game I thought I was buying, I ended up with the shit one with the retarded repetitive creatures like everyone else. They still have a link to this video on their website saying it's a 'gameplay' video though, weird.

I was nine when you were announced. I remember the night my dad showed this to me, the awe, the wonder, the promise... My dad and I planned on travelling the galaxy so we could find each other and play the game together... and then you were released... and we were so disappointed... You could've been a legacy game for me, you could've helped me through my worst and seen me at my best, you could've been one of the games my dad and I played for years and created amazing, outlandish, and hilarious memories with... Despite that though... I'm amazed at where you are now... All those promises you made so long ago? You made good on them in the end. Even though things are so different now, and we've all changed so much... It's good to see you again No Man's Sky.

Just wow. Truly stunning efforts and unless it's all a sham... I'm buying day one. Great vision, great execution, this is literally the kind of game a younger me would have dreamed of, and now it's happening. Final piece of the puzzle would be Morpheus VR support. Is that a dream too far. I just want to explore. I hope playing the game is as easy as the videos, I hope it's not bogged down too much in doing hours of mundane tasks to gain the resources needed to get out there, I hope it's more forgiving and more accessible than that. If so it'd be just perfect!
If it truly is as massive as you say, then I think the thrill of exploring this universe with millions of other players but still being able to discover completely new places all by yourself... that will be such an accomplished feeling, possibly a feeling no game has really achieved thus far. Truly the sense of being a modern day Christopher Columbus. Cannot wait, thank you :D

Hither twice! They somehow capture that magic and wonder of what could be possible. Makes you wonder why a bigger studio hasn't attempted this before. I think there's something to be said for creativity born out of small yet ambitious beginnings
Arien Van Stralen Because big studios (publishers, really) have no clue what the gamers actually want. I mean proof of principle, when David Braben tried to sell his vision for Elite Dangerous or when Chris Roberts tried to sell his vision for Star Citizen to publishers, they said "This seems strange, people won't want to play this."
Further proof, when Hello Games themselves were considering if they should show their initial trailer, they asked 10 people in the business. 8 out of them said "Don't show it, people won't get it, it doesn't seem very interesting."
So there you have it, the big publishers simply are so disconnected with what gamers are actually interested in, they literally have no clue about their very own consumer base. Which is a horrible thing in any business. When you loose touch with what your customers want SO badly.
And that is precicely why indie games have had such great success the past 5 years, because they ARE gamers who KNOW what we all are interested in.
We don't want Call of Duty #84 Commie Terrorist Takedown.
We want creativity and new visions.
They're doing VR Support, they mentioned it on Twitter. The images they showed were of the Oculus Rift, but if they're starting sales on the PS4, then I think that Sony's VR Platform is in the works as well.
I can't wait to see space from the cockpit of my ship, to look out as worlds fly by...

It is no wonder a game like this caught everyone's attention, because
Year after year we keep seeing the same crap over and over, copy-paste sequels that have no innovation, FPS games which start to look so realistic and mundane that there's no imagination or uniqueness anymore and sport games which are hyped every year with million dollar marketing but never change.
People are so brainwashed and used to this same old shit that they've forgotten games have the potential for so much more, to take you to another place, live another life, to explore places that could never be, to fantasize, be an adventurer in an unknown frontier.
This is why No Man's Sky sparked everyone's imagination. It's like a kaleidoscope in a sea of brown.

This is a really sad video in hindsight. So much promised beauty in comparison to the final product.
Agreed. While I do love the game, it's sad that there are no planets like this and certainly no animals like these. This was the trailer that sold me on the game to begin with, and that first planet in particular.
Assets were found in the game folders/data mined that mentioned e3 etc. meaning that all footage show was faked/ not apart of the game.
I'm one of the biggest supporters of this game within my group of friends and I can't even watch this video now that I have the game in hand. I think there needs to be a system of checks and balances with new games because I for one am sick and tired of being lied to. Anyone remember alien colonial marines? Sheesh

Unrealistic. So at 1:35 he leaves the planet to immediately be greeted by an enormous field of huge meteors. Such meteors would be constantly raining down on the planet and destroying all the wonderful biodiversity we witnessed in the first minute and a half of this video.

pretty sure this first planet 0:40=1:00 is just scripted for the trailer, I doubt there are planets that teeming with varied life in the finished game.

Its still more real than many trailers these days. The only thing this differs from is the huge amount of animal life. Such planet here, i already found a look a like planet.
Well, I´ve found a very similar one... I´ve been hunted and almost killed by predators. But I agree... it´s not the "same" number of lifeforms. Maybe scattered, but not together.
Most, if not all of the trailers and stage demos WERE indeed scripted... People went through the files and found the data specifically for these. Folders called "E3 2013", "E3 2014", "Colbert" etc with scripts inside them.
OMG Origins update !!! ... Oh wait, this is 6 (!) years old now 🙄 just wish the Origins update was focused on the basic and true No Man's Sky trailers, planet variety, biomes. No matter how many updates you guys release, this is the way to go !!

I've heard of this game before but this is the first time i got the chance to see some real action. Planets with vegetation, lakes with fishes, dinosaurs, etc. and on top of that, jump into your vessel, leave atmosphere, shoot some asteroids and head to the next planet. Whooa! Impressive!
That's the power & beauty of procedural algorithms in a game design like a present version of Braben & Bell's game _Elite_.

@Branko Mikić - Elite is currently getting a re-boot and will go head to head with Star Citizen - both of those games have 100x potential of this childrens story-book rubbish; check em out for sure (PC only at this stage though)
I believe it was too advanced for its time and it had true infinite procedural generation but someone didn't want it out in public imo
It is funny how a small team known for physics based vehicle games can literally steal the show at E3. There was probably well over a billion dollars worth of AAA games shown and the only one that got me off my couch was this.
For a small team you have mastered the art of anticipation with this one.

Ahhh... the trailer that started all.
This is a very interesting video - after playing NMS and looking back at why it was so gorgeous in this video ( packed with animals - active predators - faster planet entry and exit - space is packed with ships. My question remains why is the current version of the game so much more barren compared to this video.
1- mod the ship to have cargo bays - add two or more multi tool slots, this would make more sense to be nomadic and travel through multiple star systems. Having a cargo bay module type of feature would create a connection to the ship on planet exploration - not building bases

Handcrafted environments and scripted events are 10x more astonishing when you tell people they were procedurally generated. When they ask you how you did it, just say something cryptic like "maths" or "its just a line of code" or "it just works".

Its simple guys, this is a space exploration adventure not a shooter or COD multiplayer so get over it. Its simple. If you want a shooter and exploration game all in one then get DESTINY. I played the alpha and it will be AMAZING! If you want to fly your own craft to explore planets and solar systems adventuring the unknown looking for new species and relaxing without constant missions and stupid crap to have to babysit to do to move further in the game then get No mans sky. If you respect the freedom of not being another boring call of duty shooter slash multiplayer game then this game is perfect. I'm getting this game and destiny day one. When I want to explore and lay back and relax and adventure and find new species I'll play no mans sky. When I want to kill things, get ranked up with special powers and guns and play multiplayer as well, I'll jump on Destiny. Its not rocket science to just have both and play both in what ever mood your in. I think this sandbox exploration game is awesome and something I've been waiting for. It would NOT be fun trying to explore planets and to have other annoying players shooting and killing you while their flying in their space ships or running around on the ground shooting at you while your trying to explore and look at the animals. Ps4's video recorder and screen shot feature will come in handy in this exploration game. Once you leave a planet you may not see it again or find it and never see its creatures again. Or if you can find it again the world may have changed and new species are born or were made than last time. Having to worry about assholes shooting your animals you're exploring or shooting at you while you are exploring would piss me the hell off. That would kill the game. I Love the fact that we don't have to worry about that crap in no mans sky or at least I hope we don't. We wouldn't be able to enjoy the wildlife and exploring with people shooting at you trying to kill you every second during it.

Hellgate Sentinel It will also be on PC. They made it kind of obvious when they said that the game would make its "console debut" on PS4. That implies that it would be on another platform that isn't a console, meaning it's coming to PC.

So many years later, and the game is still not this. It’s close and even has some new better features. But we really don’t get those large animals, we don’t have them running through trees and knocking trees down. we don’t transition that quickly to a planet and back, you really don’t see fighting factions like freighters vs. freighter. Hopefully, we can see at least the warring factions with No Mans Sky Beyond this summer. I do really like and support this game. But it does make me take a step back when I see this trailer.
This is not the same game that now, the current game is good but the original game doesn't exist, look at this trailer and after this play the game, you can see the diference, how the physics of the objects in the planet work, the intelligence of animals beyond the enviroment, the reliefs, the physics of the animals on these reliefs. Just waiting forever the original game.
I have a feeling that playing this game for the first time will be a beautiful, legendary experience.
