It's lucky that the V-Stroms are reportedly one of the most reliable bixe in the world. That said doing this kind of maintenance to keep the bike reliable is a must. Very well presented video thankyou for that.
You are the best!!! Last time I followed your guide for unmounting the tank and then a video of another guy with an old v-strom, now I'm sure this video will be the top for the next time I replace spark plugs!
Very helpful, thank you very much. Sometimes I really wonder why engineers perform such a mess of a design for something streetable, not a race application. In fact I have many answers for that, but those don't make it a brighter design. By luck people like you eases the thing a bit and makes the world turn a bit rounder. Again Thank's
Good morning and Merry Christmas..Spark plugs are not all the same but one is for the front and one is for the rear...?..How do you know which one is which since they have different dimensions...? THANKS
They are the same. Its when you remove them to know which cylinder you removed them from because based on their color you can have indications for a proper function of that cylinder.
Such a video is something that not a lot of people would be following due to the high degree of difficulty and to be honest my valves are perfect still so perhaps in the future when the time comes.
@@DrVstrom yeah sure, I know valves do not usual require maintenance all the time. But my motorcycle has some ticking it could be valves as well as piston rings or i oil not thick enough. i was planning on changing the Spark plugs and tyres on a dealer shop but I'll just do the tyres. I'll check spark plugs myself. Thanks to your video
@@Linkonem what is the mileage on your bike? The Suzuki manual recommends that valve clearance check is done at 15,000 miles. I don't know if damage can be done to the engine if perhaps the valves have shifted so it may be that it is a very important job to do. I ask this because I am not sure of the answer to this question myself. Perhaps doctor V Strom could share about this?
Hey Dr.Vstrom! Rewatching this video for two reasons. My '22 650xt has 24k km.already. no problem with firing and no change in the fuel consumption. However the manual says for winter storage to put some oil in the cylinders through the spark plug hole. Seems a gold idea to do both, what do you think? Kallo Hronia from Bulgaria!
The front plug on the 2005 650 is an absolute pig to get to , took the radiator off and made sure was in properly, after riding in the rain my bike completely shut down and when I pulled of the front ht cap it was full of water , who ever had bike before me obv just done the plug up fingertight and this came the problem, hopefully now all is good however I might get a new HT cap for the front
The plastic piece he removed off the bottom of the radiator is designed to stop water being flung from the front wheel to the HT lead, was a common problem on SVs I believe make sure it's there too.
Good afternoon, Dr. V-Strom. Can you tell how many kilometers you ride before changing spark plugs? Do you do this according to a manual or you ride a little bit more?
Good afternoon. Suzuki and every other company out there needs to make sure of your safety by ensuring the sparks always do their job. As a result, and because most people might be changing those on dealerships, it might be safe to assume the intervals of changing those might be a bit earlier than needed. I personally and I do not encourage anyone to do this, but based on my experience with motorcycles, assuming you take good care of your engine and put the right fuel, the spark plugs can at least double their life for someone like me. However, like I said not everybody takes care of their motorcycle like me. Ride safe my friend. Feel free to add me on instagram for more direct communiaction.
Does this apply to the 2013 Suzuki V Strom 650A? I have to also clean the air filter and check the valves though I'm not sure if the valve check is a possible job for an amateur like myself. What do you think about unqualified amateur mechanics doing the valve clearance check?
The spark plugs apply and the air filter job is easy. The valve check is another story and a bit more complicated. I do not know your skills so perhaps either do this with someone else who has done it before to ensure no problems.
Manual says inspect every 6k and replace every 12k . If you maintain properly the moto and the engine is in good state, you can skip the 2 first replacement periods. I did that and the moto is fine.
If it works fine, I m not telling you what to do but I would not bother yet changing them. My experience has shown that they are fine. You can see mine in the video changed after 5 years and are still good
Hello friend, I've seen some tutorials in which they use copper grease on the threads of the spark plugs, I noticed that you don't use it, what's your opinion about it, congratulations for the spectacular video, hugs from Brazil.
Cheers Doc,I'm having a nightmare with my 1050cc strom, took it in for a service and they've found a crack in the rear brake caliper, waiting for a new one to be shipped from Germany. Its with regret,I'm looking for a new bike, considering going a bit old school, royal enfield interceptor..
Well to be fair the calipers are not manufactured by Suzuki but yes modern bikes have lower quality parts for cost and weight loss reasons and I also do not like that.
Best Repair Video ever!!!
Many thanks :)
Thanks heavens for Dr. Vstrom.
Thank you :)
Fantastic video. Makes even a newbie like me feel confident working on bikes. Thanks!!
Fantastic comment. Thanks so much :)
Great video 👍🏻
Carefully explained and straightforward instructions on how to change the Vstrom’s spark plugs. Keep up the good work Dr Vstrom.
Thanks so much for the kind words :)

A great video. It's so informative. I wish i were younger and i could do it. At least now i know i have to pay without feeling guilty. Thank you doc.
Thanks my friend
Thank you again for a great video. All the information you need, in a calm and professional way. 👍👍

Ciao bel video ma volevo chiedere se consigli di mettere qualche tipo di grasso sul filetto della candela?
No need to do that. It is not required.

Hello, no need to put oil there. This is for long storage. For couple of months it is not needed. I have never done this and all was good. Ride safe.

Para la bujía de detrás del radiador mejor coger la llave que viene con las herramientas de la moto hay una específica para ello
Not a very good quality one

Well everyone makes their choices but yes. As I explained for another friend they do last a bit.
Очень круто, но предельно не хватает субтитров.
Thanks man. Subtitles you should complain to TH-cam. It does not. Autogenerate and they don't fix it.
