  • We're helping out a buddy by working on his 2007 Suzuki V-Strom 650. We replace the air filter and spark plugs, repair the crash bars, service the rear chain, put oil in it, and check for ABS codes.
The best part of any motorcycle maintenance is the shake down ride afterward, so be sure to check out the ride!

Actually the tires are 60/40 tires, I have done plenty of dirt with the "Pig". I have been told the 650 is the superior machine for dirt and the liter bike is the superior bike for the road. James I really appreciate you man. Fun to see the bike on the TH-cam.

Thanks for the info and for letting me work on it, Doug! And you certainly take this on dirt more than 90% of other V-Strom riders, so kudos for that!

Nice bike, Doug! I love the commentary during the bike ride. I really like that seat. Plenty of room for bits and such

Several years ago Project Farm tested portable jump boxes and that one was rated very high in his testing. Great video... thanks

Yeah just acquired a 2007 V-Strom dl1000 and i love it, it's surprisingly very balanced for being a big bike but I think the center of gravity is more towards the motor then the gas tank but you can definitely tell when the gas tank is filled up when it is.

Wish you were my neighbor! I’d be happy to let you wrench on any of my bikes. 😂

It's like boats, you never need to own one...just have a friend with one!

I am beginning to think you work on friends’ bikes just for the chance to ride new motorcycles😉

I'd put the DL650 up against a Yammie 750 triple, and expect the DL650 to do everything better.

You need to learn how to jump(push) start your bike. Roll it down an incline in 1st gear with the clutch in. release clutch when up to speed. and viola!

dealing with a dreaded C28 code on ECU....whats your experience with fixing a secondary throttle valve code issue?

Does it make any difference with the kn air filter

nah I never use K&N air filters. They 'add power' by letting more air in....because they filter less! The stock paper filter is best.

How many spark plugs in this bike?

For such a well produced video only 42 likes in a year? I think that the "meh-" tone of your review is a bit unfair and may be turning actual Strom owners off. You seem to be comparing it to a sport bike which it is not. My '09 650 is plenty flickable with the right tires; Anakee Adventure radials in my case. I've never felt I had to work to get the bike turned in. It does just fine in the twisties. You appear to have not leaned the bike over hardly at all in your handlebar lock "test". This is understandable on an unfamiliar bike but it will turn a surprisingly tight circle in the right hands. It IS a big bike though. Curb weight pushes 500lbs with crash bars, skid plate, panniers and a full tank but still has enough power to get my 260 lbs going as fast as quickly as I care to go. It will cruise at 75mph (probably more) fully loaded all day long, then hit the fire roads with no worries. Your characterization as a "pig" really hurts, bro. I think you'll find that most actual DL650 owners absolutely love them.

Thanks for your sympathy looking at my 'likes'! haha. I always made these videos just for fun though, never for views. I appreciate it nonetheless.
It's a fine motorcycle and I have no doubt that it can cruise all day at those speeds. It just lacks torque. Only 45lb/ft....that's only a little more than a 1982 Honda cb650. But, nobody is buying the 650 expecting it to be powerful. It's adequate, and that's okay.
And "pigs" can be nice! haha, no offense intended, it's just big and heavy and not fast....hence a pig.
      I appreciate your views!
