- The 2023 Mustang Mach 1 is coming to an end for 2023 and Ford is ready to launch the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse. On the outside you you get a ton of unique touches on the Mach 1. From the grill to the front fascia, stripes and wheels. On the inside there is a Chassis number plate, leather seating, and a cur ball shifter. Under the hood is a 5.0L Coyote V8 producing 470HP & is mated to a Tremec 6-speed manual. Is the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach 1 the BETTER muscle car to buy than a 2024 Dark Horse?

I love the Mach 1. When the Dark Horse comes out, can you do a side-by-side comparison, please? I'd love to see the size comparison between the 2, specifically, the front-to-back ratio, the back end width, the height, and, of course, the look of the 2 beasts next to each other. This simple, basic car design is lovely. Cockpit is also good. Absolutely, mighty Mach 1.
As a very happy owner of a '21 Mach 1 (FTJ/HP/TREMEC/Recaros/etc), if you like the Camaro look of the Dark Horse, go for it. Otherwise, if you prefer the S550 look, you can probably pick up one of the last ones on the lot for a good price.
Both are incredibly nice but from what I’ve seen the dark horse has 500hp vs 470hp in the Mach 1, in no way should the Mach 1 be disrespected cause it’s truly a masterpiece in history.

The darkhorse is heavier so I doubt there will be a ton of difference.
The dark horse can't be tuned so I'd rather the Mach 1
I waited until they revealed the redesign to see if I was going to wait for the dark horse, but I personally do not like the look of the exterior nor do I like the big IPads used for the instrument cluster. Glad I bought my 22 mach1 with the tremec. Had it for four months now and love driving it.

Got mines last year with the tremec and handling pack in Oxford White after I seen the design of the s650. I don’t hate the new mustangs at all. I just prefer the s550 interior and exterior. And it sounds incredible

I have a 21 MACH1 - absolutely amazing car.
I cannot stress enough just how much I love and respect the build of a MACH 1.
It's a truly special track car and wow on the track.
It flat out flies, and sounds looks amazing.

If you can find a leftover '22 or even '23 Mach1 (as they are producing '24 Gen7 Mustangs now at factory I've been told in Flat Rock, MI). It be a great buy & future collectible for sure. I know Mach1 version sold well..not sure how many left. Great sports car thar will hold its value well & run w/anything out there 💯.

Great review Joe. I really like the sound of the exhaust. It sounds a lot like my 2019 Bullitt. IMHO the Bullitt has a unique tune that I love. The two 13 in screens will definitely be a new feel for the Mustang.

I have the same Mach 1 except 2022 with the HP and no B&O system. Miss the B&O but the exhaust note makes up for it.

Nice review. I bought a 2022 Mustang GT California Special 5.0 Coyote V8. Agree with the analogy it's all about passion. There is nothing on the planet that comes close to the exhaust audio of a Ford Mustang active valve exhaust.

I would say mach1 with handling pack has got the curb appeal and the power I need! Whether it’s Ford, Chevy or Dodge, these American muscle cars will always be the legends! Thanks Joe for reviewing this car again. Your earlier reviews on the mach1 made me to buy one with tremec!
Love my mach 1 6 speed with the handling and appearance packages. Horsepower is underrated. Only thing I changed was the cup 2s for 4s. I wont be trading for a dark horse. I'm not a fan of just slapping ipads on the dash and it will be more expensive. To each if their own but my 21 is here to stay. Joe if you get the handling package you get 315s in the back, sport cup 2s, not to mention the bird cage wheels among other things... I did switch mine out for 4s 315s though, much easier to live with.

I'll take the Mach 1 in styling because I'm a retrogrouch when they go too far too soon with a refresh, and 30 horses is easy to make up for a few dollars. If only they could take the 2015 front end look and continue it. Great car, great episode!!!

Great video! The rear diff is 373 gears not 307. You can also remove the hydrocarbon trap from the CAI and get that 10 horsepower back it takes about 30 minutes.

Great stuff Joe! I went with a 22 Mach 1 with the handling pkg., 6 spd., and all the other options I could throw on it. I love it. I like the new design, but I’m glad I got the 22 Mach 1 last June. Thanks for bringing it to us.

@@mikehawk120 yes, 22s and 23s lost 10 hp due to the air filter trap ford installed for "emissions"
Remove the air filter trap to gain 10 - 20 +/- HP....?
@@markallen4397 yes, you'll gain the 10 hp back. However it's not a solution everyone can use due to certain localities in the country who have stringent smog or emissions requirements. You'd have to look up the rules and regulations in the county your car would be registered in regarding said workaround.

Great review Joe. I am set on ordering the Dark Horse. My son owns a Ford dealership and I will be getting the first one in the State. My son told me yesterday that it will be a 6 - 8 month wait to get the car from the order date. Still having delays with Ford vehicles. The Mach 1 is very nice but I like the better handling package on the Dark Horse; also really like the Blue Ember metallic paint with the upgraded blue interior that you can have with the Dark Horse. I do prefer the Mach 1 rims over the Dark Horse rims. Not gonna get the CF wheels. Every time you change your tires those carbon fiber wheels will risk getting nicked up.
Thanks Joe for the excellent comparison. The S650 brings the better internals on the engine plus the dual throttle plenums and dual intake. Once you add the Whipple Supercharger that air intake & throttle body will enhance the addition of the Supercharger over the same effort in the S550 engine. The suspension was upgraded on the 7th generation Mustang. So it makes more sense to wait in comparison to the 2023 Mach 1. Don’t forget that the key fob allows revving the engine plus the Recaro seats are now finally heated/cooled. Lastly the hood has struts now. The D-shaped steering wheel should be good enough to not need to order an aftermarket steering wheel.

Great review, was going to purchase a 2022 gt500, for a ridiculous price, but after watching several of your videos and alot of searching, i found a new 2022 mach1 w handling package for a crazy low price, funny thing is, after i spend the money to purchase the stage 2 Whipple supercharger and put it on myself cause thats what I do, all in will put me at 67,000, so im glad I waited, instead of spending 90k plus, my deal is WAY better, great videos bro 👍👍
I think this one has more class. I'm not sure about the new tablets replacing all the gauges and physical controls. Maybe the flash has appeal to a younger generation, but to me it seems like a distraction. Personally, a less expensive base gt with the smoother shifting tremec would put a big smile on my face without killing the bank.

I do not like the S650 at all. It's ugly in and out. This on the other hand is American perfection right next to the GT350.

so i just bought a Mach1 instead of waiting on the new mustang, main reason being the interior. im not a fan of lack of buttons. i hate having to go through multiple menus just to turn on something like heated seats. i like buttons and analog.

Another great review, thanks! Really like how you spell out the differences between a Mach1 and a GT and list all the Shelby parts used to elevate this last-year model. I was very excited to hear of the creation of the Mach1 but for 2021-22, you barely saw any on the street and the buyers were all paying OVER msrp, yikes. Now in May, '23 finally some dealers have more than ONE on the lot AND might sell at MSRP, finally! 2 months ago I wasnt even looking for a new car, and in a matter of a week reviews like this AND seeing them up close caused me to impulse-buy a 2023 Dark Matter Gray with optional 10-spoke black wheels (same tire size: 275/255), 6-spd manual, comfort seats (non-Recaro, but heated and cooled!) Mach 1....OMG, what a car. The looks alone are stunning...then drive it...the smiles and laughs come with every mile. And SMOOTH magnaride. I should have done this years ago. Non-Handling Pak car....so MSRP was $61,850 sold to me for $60,085. Don't wait, get one of these...but I assume there really are no bad choices between 2023 end 2024.

Last time I checked Walker Ford wanted a 10k markup for that Mach 1. Other dealers are discounting them because they are slow to sell.

I love my mach one it has a perfect combination of technology with a retro and start inspired muscle car field that I think beats the dark horse in that regard and I am not a fan of the two gigantic screrens because eventually all cars going to have the same thing and I want something unique in the mach one has it the best S550 mustang.
Mach 1 HP has 315s in the rears and 305s in front. Same as Dark Horse …only with Michelin Pilot Cup 2s. I waited 11 months for my 2022 Mach 1 with HP in cyber orange color. It’s amazing. Dark Horse will probably be amazing also but I don’t like to get first production year vehicle 🤷♂️

My 2022 that I ordered in May never came in and Ford said that it won't be built as a 2023 either. I'm either going to have to go Dark Horse or try to find one in either White or Eruption Green that has the options that I want.

Maybe, it looks amazing and is pretty unique. That TREMEC transmission and Shelby parts in it as well are fantastic and makes it more desirable. It's no Shelby, but it is a performance beast in its own right for a significantly lower price point.

This is a beautiful car with a v8 engine thank GOD, but I am a Chevy guy ,so I would prefer the Camaro zl1 or the 2ss in blue even though that grey is good looking also.
